    The other day I found myself shopping at the mall with my wife, my step-daughter and sister-in-law. We're at the Columbia outdoors clothing store at the Miromar outlets in Fort Myers, Florida. And I'm bored to tears. So in my head I'm in my happy place thinking about my next amp build, which has to be on the cheap since, as you may know, this can be an expensive hobby! I have been listening to ZZ Top tones and want to do something with a Billy Gibbons tweed sound. But the transformers I have for the project are a Mercury Magnetics set used in the Marshall 50 watt Plexi. And I''m thinking "what the heck, I'm curious how this could sound." What I'm contemplating is a Fender Super 5f4-style build with the 5e3 bias/supply filter setup since my power transformer lacks the 50v tap. I'm also going to up the filter caps to a trio of 22uf caps and try the choke while I'm at it. Also, it will use a GZ34 rectifier and two 6L6 output tubes. I may try some split cathode things, too. MEANWHILE, at the store, I'm the "mobile clothing rack". I've got women's dresses, tops and pants hanging from both arms... And this amazing song is playing out of the ceiling. I've never heard it before. So I launch the Soundhound app on my iPhone and discover that it's Buddy Guy, On the Road blowing my mind! Upon review here on youtube, I am hoping that my 5f4 Super-style amp sounds like an amp Buddy would want to play. That is now the goal. (If you are an amp builder, I'll take any advice you may have, in particular related to matching the 50 watt Plexi transformers to the proposed circuit.)
