Buckley, Tim - Pleasant Street Lyrics

You don't remember what to say
You don't remember what to do
You don't remember where to go
You don't remember what to choose
You wheel, you steal, you feel, you kneel down

All the stony people
Walking 'round in Christian licorice clothes
I can't hesitate
And I can't wait
For Pleasant Street

The sunshine reminds you of concreted skies
You thought you were flying but you opened your eyes
And you found yourself falling back to yesterday's lies
Hello, Pleasant Street, you know she's back again
You wheel, you steal, you feel, you kneel down

All the stony people
Walking 'round in Christian licorice clothes
I can't hesitate
And I can't wait
For Pleasant Street

At twilight your lover comes to your room
He'll spin you, he'll weave you 'round his emerald loom
And softly you'll whisper all around his ear
"Sweet lover, I love Pleasant Street
I wheel, I steal, I feel my way down to kneel"

All the stony people
Walking 'round in Christian licorice clothes
I can't hesitate
And I can't wait
For Pleasant Street

You don't remember what to say
You don't remember what to do
You don't remember which way to go
You don't remember who to choose
You wheel, you steal, you feel, you kneel down

Buckley, Tim Pleasant Street Comments

I had the good fortune to see/hear Tim Buckley as a kid....as poignant and lovely as ever!

  2. g.... _....

  3. D.... P....

One of the greats.....there's so much going on in the background of this track

  4. T.... ....

I found this song over 25 years ago whilst looking for song to the siren. I'd heard Tim on the monkees tv show when I was about 12 or so. Years later I had never forgotten his name the way he looked or how beautiful the song he played was but I didn't know its name. I started buying a few Tim Buckley albums trying to track down the right song and this was on the first one I bought. I fell in love with this song along with many others. Eventually found song to the siren which was still so very beautiful and I have the same recording from the monkees show with Mickey Dolenz introducing the track. I still get shivers listening to both songs.

  5. J.... F....

This is a great album. I still listen frequently to. His music....lasting, intense and magnetic

  6. k.... ....

"Goodbye and hello" es un gran disco. Adelantado a su tiempo, y no ha envejecido en absoluto.
Tim Buckley fue un gran intérprete. Lástima que muriera tan joven. Y que esté tan olvidado.
Ni siquiera la fama de su hijo Jeff ha servido para recuperar sus discos.

all the stoney people walking around in liquorice clothes...

  9. R.... T....

Brilliant music but what is going on with the album cover.

  10. y.... ....

Wait, didn't know James Franco released some dope folk rock song under the pseudonym of Tim Buckley.

  11. B.... N....

-------------->>> there is so much energy ,
so much emotion in this song (...).

  12. H.... H....

Like father...like son... love them both...❤❤🎵🎶

  13. J.... M....

I wish he made more great pop rock like this. His last 3 albums were the best. He used his voice best on those albums too. Ain't It Peculiar is a really great pop rocker by him from the later period.

I think it's about heroin addiction or depression.
Some quotes from the song in relation to this:

"And you found yourself falling back to yesterday's lies"

"Hello, Pleasant Street, you know she's back again"

  16. E.... B....

This mans vocal range is fucking insane.

  17. B.... ....

This LP was in regular rotation with many other LPs me and my circle of friends would listen to in the depths of a smokey underground sanctuary on most evenings in the year 1967 (and beyond)!

  18. R.... S....

excellent song, best on the album

  19. R.... J....

    Timless classic-beautiful

  20. M.... P....

    Briiliant

  36. w.... j....

Can't understand why Tim Buckley didn't really make the big time

    w.... j....

Too intense, innovative and complex, like the other teenage genius Laura Nyro.

    w.... j....

He's years ahead of his time & doesn't fit into a musical genre.

  55. M.... F....

  56. D.... P....

So, that picture - did Buckley get high and decide to evaluate some diamonds?

  57. A.... T....

    I love this song !!!!!!

  58. f.... ....

My favorite Tim Buckley album.  I have this one on both LP and CD.Love this song,  "Pleasant Street"   What a powerful voice.  Great guitarist!Saw him in concert once in Los Angeles when I was about 15 years old and had a huge crush on Tim.  Caught his guitar pick as I was sitting right up by the stage.   He was playing his 12 string and the pick went flying after his song - I caught it and kept it!Tried to meet him once.  I had his address in Venice, California and took at least 3 buses each way to get to Venice.  Found his apt old apt. building and walked up the back steps.  I WAS 15 YEARS OLD!   (and looked even younger as I was small)   Got the nerve and knocked at his door but no answer.  Then some older lady next door heard me knocking I guess and came out to tell me Tim was not home.   So I never went back there again  because I chickened out to try again to meet him.     I didn't really have a particular plan if he had been home but to just tell him I was a fan and could he sing me a song and get an autograph.   Ha, maybe he would have invited me inside but I was just a kid of 15 years old and looked younger.

    f.... ....

What an amazing story! Thank you! When did you see him in concert? And do you remember his address? I would looove to go see his apartment.

    f.... ....

    Great memory ..... 👍👍

  59. S.... ....

these media assholes should play THIS song day and night on their sick radios

  60. l.... ....

    <3 <3 <3 !!!!

  61. S.... B....

first time I heard this time nearly stood still

  62. M.... G....

I've come to despise the term "underrated" when it comes to great musicians. Listeners get hip to the truly
good artists and spread the word. Underrated is one thing, relatively unknown is quite another. I don't believe
Tim was ever underrated, may just not as appreciated as he could have been.

    M.... G....

Very true, never under rated, just obscure with the music public. Like the Bronx genius Laura Nyro, seismically influential and revered within the music industry, but obscure outside the industry. See the Nyro youtube raves by Todd Rundgren, Elton John, Alice Cooper, Sara Barellies.

  63. V.... B....

why people don't listen to songs like these ? He was a true artist , and people at that time did't realised that. And finally he died of drugs. What all he left was his music and his 8 years old son ( who was a legend too ) RIP Tim and Jeff Buckley !!

  64. L.... A....

    His voice is something else

    L.... A....

Simply Red nicked some of this.....

  65. J.... T....

amazing ive loved music all my life and tonight just by chance heard this for the first time ever...its one of the best songs ive ever heard, that voice is mesmerising

    simply amazing

  66. C.... K....

We used to think of tim Buckley as the Bob Dylan who could actually sing. His lyrics are often as innovative as Dylan's. "All the stony people walkin' round in Cristian licorice clothes." This is a magnificent anthem to addiction, similar to Buffy St. Marie's "Codine" or Clapton's "Cocaine".

    C.... K....

Also try the Bronx genius Laura Nyro's 'Been on a Train' (1970) re heroin. For amazing vocals try her 'You Don't Love Me When I Cry' (1969) or the mind blowing cover of 'Gonna take a Miracle' (1970).

    C.... K....

um, J. J. Cale wrote and sang "Cocaine."

  67. S.... B....

Does it get better... Not in my experience.. Tim I salute you

  68. J.... C....

insert subjective opinion comparing tim and jeff *here*

  69. G.... ....

    Graham Coxon led me here.

  70. G.... ....

Forget Taurus, this is where Stairway to Heaven was born.

  71. A.... R....

    So much energy ....masterpiece

  72. b.... b....

I can hear Jeff's voice in there !

  73. a.... p....

una voce incredibile........da far impallidire Plant,Mercury,Jeff........and company.........

    a.... p....

    a.... p....

  74. c.... ....

Close your eyes and pray you live to see the sun next day. What a tragic loss of energy.

  75. Z.... ....

    Cool!! :)

  76. A.... M....

Antony Bates ( "One of the greatest records ever made, by anybody, ever" ) nails it with his comment; this is truly one of the great recordings of that era, on a par with Astral Weeks, with Blonde on Blonde, and the early Richard and Linda Thompson recordings - with so many of the other great recordings that on everyone'S list. Listen carefully to every song on this recording and on the four or five recordings that succeeded it.
Hunt them down here on YouTube.

    A.... M....

With you....true fan have every official recording on vinyl and cd (prefer vinyl) and afew others for me no voice has ever come close for range and purity. I do feel sorry for 15-20's of today the shit they are bought up to. My mission is that my children appreciate the best....and they do

  77. R.... P....

    this is excellant

  78. s.... m....

    jeeee, more please

  79. M.... T....

    ..UUUUUUUUUUUUUUAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU !!!!
    Thanks Tim !

  80. B.... P....

All these years later, and I still play this album fairly often...

  81. a.... m....

A fan of Jeff, his voice, music, just everything about him. But Tim has stolen my heart, this song... no words, just beautiful.

    a.... m....

jeff's voice and music is perfect when you feeling down, but tim's music is kind of uplifting and energetic

    a.... m....

@darihuu batmunkh jeff voice was very good voice tim voice was the voice

  82. T.... B....

One of the greatest records ever made, by anybody, ever - should be much more famous than it is. As it fades it sounds like it's descending into hell. . .

    T.... B....

    addiction = descending into hades

  83. G.... P....

the voice of Tim for me more exciting than jeff...

    G.... P....

I'm totally agree with you, is just that I think that Jeff has better lyrics

    G.... P....

I'm totally agree with you, is just that I think that Jeff has better lyrics

    G.... P....

Tim seemed to have a more solid through voice deeper and just as high with more control but Jeff was better at blues based music they’re both amazing

    G.... P....

Tim's cover of the classic "Sally Go Round the Roses," is stunning. He took basically a spooky nothing song ("nothing" meaning simple) and his voice intensified the original using every octave he had available. For me, this was the defining greatness of Tim because it was a song I was familiar with. I never would have tackled that song -- but he did. And he succeeded.

  84. A.... A....

One of the most underrated artists ever. This song is a masterpiece and his voice...pure perfection!

    A.... A....

He sure put out some crappy albums near the end. So sad, But this is a great song.

    A.... A....

    Truly amazing !

    A.... A....

He died too soon. We'd know him better if he was still around. Can imagine the reunion concerts?

  85. L.... A....

    beautiful.

  86. M.... L....

    We should always remember him.

    M.... L....
