1981. wow this might be his best song ever. I just remember the audio on from the Akai tape deck and a studio recording that was recorded from a radio broad cast and my dad copyied to a regular tape. . Seen a lot of Bruce decades later but he seems in trance or something at the start . but wow this video is very impressive.

I saw a show on this tour..that was incredible
... but also tragically bittersweet. The show I attended was on December 8th ... at the Spectrum.. in Philadelphia.....it was the night
John Lennon... was murdered.....
only a few times in life do I remember.. things changing so drastically... so quickly...
The feeling of loss.. and helplessness.. wanting to do something... but knowing there was nothing... to be done.. to change the news on the radio... on the ride back home...
Feeling like a piece of your conscious memory or being... had been cut out.. and taken away from you... I was a big John Lennon fan ...I was 7 ... the night the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show..
So John’s music... was part of what I listened to...all my life growing up...losing that person
hurt ... and cut very deep...the manner in which he died...was so the opposite of the message he was writing and singing about...
It was a very ... long surreal ride back home
that night... for me.. John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen will always be connected...part of my consciousness... for many reasons..
one being a night that went from great joy to
sad tragedy... in the blink of an eye... it still makes me feel uneasy and sad...to think about... even this many years later... and I know that in a few weeks.. it will be 39 years
since that night... and stir up those thoughts and feelings again...a tragic anniversary..
I always think of people who have given us great music.. that becomes part of the soundtrack.. to our own lives as “ friends..I’ll never meet “...but am grateful for the gift that they have given us. I’ve listened to Bruce’s music since 1973....and just went recently to see Western Stars...in the theatre...
Both Bruce and John’s music have always been there.. when I needed it...truly a gift
I can only say “ Thank You “... both... for songs that will be with me all my life...thanks for your gift...🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵

As far as I can remember this is the first song of Bruce I knew when I was about 14 and 15. And from there I tries to discover more of his music. And through the years I just followed what he was doing. And yes I had a crush on Bruce when I was a teenager but I still love him just like a woman who grew up with her man...
im not particularly religious and i dont know how or why it is, but there's God in this performance.
