Bruce Springsteen - Night Lyrics

You get up every morning at the sound of the bell
You get to work late and the boss man's giving you hell
Till you're out on a midnight run
Losing your heart to a beautiful one
And it feels right as you lock up the house
Turn out the lights and step out into the night

And the world is busting at its seams
And you're just a prisoner of your dreams
Holding on for your life 'cause you work all day
To blow 'em away in the night

The rat traps filled with soul crusaders
The circuits lined and jammed with chromed invaders
And she's so pretty that you're lost in the stars
As you jockey your way through the cars
And sit at the light, as it changes to green
With your faith in your machine off you scream into the night

And you're in love with all the wonder it brings
And every muscle in your body sings as the highway ignites
You work nine to five and somehow you survive till the night
Hell all day they're busting you up on the outside
But tonight you're gonna break on through to the inside
And it'll be right, it'll be right, and it'll be tonight

And you know she will be waiting there
And you'll find her somehow you swear
Somewhere tonight you run sad and free
Until all you can see is the night

Bruce Springsteen Night Comments
  1. f.... 2....

    This is bloody brilliant!

  2. J.... E....

What a phenomenal album! One of the best ever...

  3. B.... S....

He took us working class kids to where we belonged...free and screaming with his rock while we swilled our beer in taverns and took our drugs....we could "get away" with Bruce and the band...he spoke for a generation of working class young stiffs.

  4. J.... P....

Always dreamed this song was about , me! Only Bruce, yea!

  5. W.... B....

Why does this whole album sound so tinny? Like the bass is just sucked out of it....I have this on vinyl and always loved the music but thought that the sound was beyond flat sounding.
    Anyone agree?

    W.... B....

Woo Bino yes. The bass is MIA on this album

  6. J.... T....

This ts another song that reminds me of summer, the jersey shore and hanging out all night on the boardwalk. I can almost smell the popcorn and the salt on the air

  7. L.... ....

Every album from the debut to the river is a best of album for Bruce.

  8. A.... S....

Anyone who grew up either in NY or like me in NJ we couldn’t wait for the Night to head to the Shore ;-) We would go to the Clubs and Dance , Dance , Dance .. Maybe even catch a glimpse of the Boss !!! Grew up , threw up and Stood Up !!!

  9. S.... K....

    Gteat,great song.

  10. L.... A....

Bruce sings w such passion, that’s what makes him
    So great

  11. D.... K....

I haven't came into the night yet,but hope to get there someday...

  12. P.... ....

This is probably my second favorite song by Springsteen, second only to Born to Run

  13. F.... L....

Some parts of this song make me want to sing "... Like a bat out of Hell" !

  14. A.... B....

The attack of that intro grabs you by the throat....lets you know what you're in for.

  15. C.... T....

Verga! esta sigue siendo mi favorita después de años tbh

  16. n.... ....

Had this on the turntable this morning and this song really stood out for me today. My 19 month old son liked it as well. One of the joys of having a son is introducing him to really great artists, such as the heavy rotation of Tom Petty and the HBs of late. And Bruce this morning.

    n.... ....

It's good to see that you're showing this to your son, I was introduced to Bruce by my dad as well.

  17. i.... r....

One of Springsteen's better songs. Shitload of chord changes!

  18. D.... H....

An underrated Springsteen gem. "..as you jockey your way through the cars..." Love it.

  19. F.... ....

This song is the embodiment of the E Street Band. Everything that makes The Boss and the Boys special is on display. Perfection.

  20. S.... M....

This, along with Thunder Rd, for me the highlights of BTR

    S.... M....

    Great great song.. .

    S.... M....

    And jungleland

    S.... M....

Literally every song in Born to Run is great

  21. M.... M....

I can't believe there's 3 thumbs down!  Great Boss song!

  22. E.... F....

    es todo un clasico😀😀😀😀😀😃😃😃😃😉😉☺☺😍

  23. T.... t....

    One of his best songs!

  24. M.... A....

This is one of the MANY Bruce Springsteen songs that definitely deserves more attention. Every song of his is great, even those that don't wind up on his 'Hits' albums

    M.... A....

As my YouTube screen name would imply, I am a HUGE Bruce fan, but even I would admit that most of his output starting from The Rising forward is very weak and uninspired-sounding. So, saying "every song is great" is a definitely a minority opinion even amongst the most ardent Springsteen fans.

  25. S.... F....

The ultimate mood setter for a night out

  26. S.... -....

SUCH a great song. I love the sense of desperation that it conveys.

    S.... -....

I see you all over Bruce's vids

  27. 6.... ....

I've always considered Night much better than some other songs on Born to Run. It definitely deserves a mention.

  28. G.... 9....

Underrated? Shame.  I find this is one of Springsteen's best songs ever.

    G.... 9....

    Agreed!!!

  29. J.... M....

Opened with this at The Palace Theater , Waterbury , Ct . 1976 ...& I was there !!!

    J.... M....

As he did when I saw him in Feb. 1977 at the Milwaukee arena!!
Set the tone nicely for the rest of the show!

    J.... M....

    East Main St.?

  30. m.... c....

Damn nice,Under rated song for sure.Love this Album and Darkness on the Edge of town..

  31. B.... A....

Lovely, bit overlooked song. Always loved it. :)

  32. D.... S....

The entire born to run album was the way a young man 18 to 25 lived and if you listen, they still live this way today. Springsteen nailed life, some have seen this, others may never see it. I hope for the young of today and tomrrow, this album forever lives on. I miss the soulful sound of Clarence. If I out live Bruce, I will always know who the boss is.

  33. s.... ....

Thanks for posting this song, it's a great one!

  34. j.... ....

One of Bruce's best and most exhilirating songs about the joys of being young and carefree. Great, feel-good lyrics, and fantastic driving rock and roll. What a songwriter....

  35. I.... ....

Hell yeah! Springsteen makes me wanna run outside and scream and shout and get drunk in the sun....

  36. s.... h....

    one of his best. thanks!

  37. I.... ....

    You're welcome! :)

  38. s.... ....

    I love this song!! :))
