Bruce Springsteen - Easy Money Lyrics

You put on your coat, I’ll put on my hat
You put out the dog, I’ll put out the cat
You put on your red dress for me tonight honey
We’re going on the town now
Looking for easy money

There’s nothing to it mister
You won’t hear a sound
When your whole world comes tumbling down
And all them fat cats, they’ll just think it’s funny
I’m goin’ on the town now, lookin’ for easy money

I got a Smith & Wesson 38
I got a hellfire burning and I got me a date
Got me a date on the far shore
Where it’s bright and sunny
I’m goin’ on the town tonight, lookin’ for easy money

You put on your coat, I’ll put on my hat
You put out the dog, I’ll put out the cat
You put on your red dress
You’re lookin’ real good honey
We’re going on the town now
Looking for easy money
We’re going on the town tonight
Looking for easy money

  1. M.... B....

Turn it up loud, dogs. Peace. Out.

  2. w.... l....

This is a song about a couple in the US who just one day, say 'fuck it..fuck this Oligarchy shit', and head out and execute a robbery....and have fun doing it.
I wonder how many people/couples in this country are having these exact thoughts right now? And who HASN'T given at least fleeting thoughts to this type of thing.....

  3. g.... ....

    Thug trumps song.

  4. b.... c....

    I love this song!!!!!

  5. D.... J....

Just started listening to this album again. The whole thing is a classic. Sounds better today than when it was first released. The beauty of Bruce is that his work stands the test of time. My all time fav is The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle.......

  6. B.... ....

Before the Wall Street crash, I was blessed with the opportunity to work in a real estate appraisal office for some friends. It was as I stated, an opportunity. It was the horn of plenty for a while. The 2,000 training hours necessary to obtain a license looked very do-able. Thanks to the unbelievable corruption in that banking system authorizing un-godly numbers of real estate loans through corrupt motgage companys soon saw the tanking of the real estate market crushing any hopes for me to further my career. I try hard to find humor bcause so many of my lifes dreams have been crushed. Forgive me for having a moment of levity, it was not meant to be harmful to anyone.

    B.... ....

    rock on, friend..

  7. B.... ....

"Easy Money"  could turn into "Something Bad"  When the bad-ass Boss meets up with the "Something Bad" Mamas. Rock and Roll Rocking all over the Country Queens. Bruuuuuce makes for a more handsome Country Crooner than Steve Tyler any day of the week. Steve Tyler gives Country a new name or new Country Love.

    B.... ....

Oh, my goodness you have had a horrible morning for sure. Constuing a simple humorous observation with such negativity. I hope you have a better day, and God Bless you for sure. I hope someone gives you some big warm hugs.

    B.... ....

Mister, I do not know who you are. I pray Father Forgive him because he knows not who he is damning. My Abba created this used to be beautiful land, I just want you to know that he is not happy with you addressing me in such a damning fashion. Dont look now, but there is an *Asshole* in every pair of pants.

I like it so much! It's a great song.

    Really?

This song seems to be about going out robbing with his "Smith & Wesson 38." It's a catchy tune, but why would Springsteen write a song like this? Anyone know?

    "I got a Smith & Wesson 38
I got a hellfire burning and I got me a date
Got me a date on the far shore
    Where it’s bright and sunny
I’m goin’ on the town tonight, lookin’ for easy money"

    C.... T....

He said in his autobiography you can listen to the album literally and just hear the songs, which is part of how he writes universally, or you can hear its "deadly" message right through the album. Kudos to him for speaking through his work, not with speeches at awards shows, and for putting his money where his mouth is - e.g. cancelling a show over transgender bathrooms - rather than just preaching to the converted about "raising awareness.".

    C.... T....

I agree GJ ! "These CRIMINALS should be prosecuted from robbing US relentlessly." And we've been "fighting where we don't belong" for years. America raises it's young to do two things: work and make money, and go to war to make money ~ for others. The war mongers that is. Now it's "for our safety." The only safety I need is from the Rump!

    C.... T....

glammer, thanks for pointing out the most important fact: "...and for putting his money where his mouth is - e.g. canceling a show over transgender bathrooms - rather than just preaching to the converted about "raising awareness.". You are right, and we need more people like him. Modern day heroes and saint.

  15. s.... ....

This song is so raw...fucking amazing

  16. I.... ....

Shoot, at first listen I thought "hmmm....is this really a great album", but after lisening to it for a year or so.... G'damn, what a great album it is!! Thank God he's not trying in any way to copy his past (like making Born in the USA pt II). Bruce is his own man, and he certainly do what HE wants....and that's a good thing!!! Btw, I've grown to love his last record! It's amazingly GREAT!

    I.... ....

In his autobiography he said he thought this was his best album since Born in the USA, though it didn't seem to have been taken that way. Maybe that's why it wasn't at first. It's a grower.

@gueo224s thank you for telling me about this method to make money online, it is really working!!!! Ppl if you want to see the method is in the description of my profile

  20. i.... ....

i'm fully aware, but he's not suffering. he's being empathetic, which is debatably more admirable. the american dream is still a lie.

  21. A.... G....

It's not an achievement that you like 'old' music. This was released 6 months ago. It's new. It knocked Adele off number 1 so you're hardly an individual for liking this

  22. A.... G....

Yeah true but it's not like he was born with a million in his bank and then is singing about being poor. He's tasted poverty and you can't blame him for making money. And besides he's telling a story. I'm sure J. K. Rowling isn't a wizard but she can still write about them. That was kind of a tenuous connection but he's not actually singing about himself, he's singing about the economy and I think it's encouraging that a man of his wealth can remain connected to such problems. He's amazing

  23. K.... ....

"There's nothing to it, you won't hear a sound when your whole world comes tumblin' down." You got that right.

  24. i.... ....

still a rich man in a poor man's shirt. love the boss, but you have to remember he's never really the only person he's singing about.

  25. l.... f....

Mosr rich people want to hide behind their walled homes, and pay as little taxes as possible. They care little America or the masses of it's people except what America can give to THEM.
WAKE UP AMERICA .... Your country is being stolen by Wall Street traitors !!!!!!

  26. A.... S....

    He truly is THE BOSS!!!

  27. R.... ....

Great song off a great album.

  28. R.... ....

Young & naive. Attention-seeking comment. Anyone who is posting a comment of this nature is looking for the world to give them a pat on the back.

  29. x.... ....

@robinraeburne I wasnt bashing anything, its just my opinion

  30. r.... ....

I don't understand the concept of bashing everything modern just to prove that you like old music. Insulting current music doesn't make your sentence anymore legitimate. Just as in all music, rap has some good shit. Just as in all music, Rock has some crappy shit.

  31. k.... ....

  51. L.... M....

Isn't it great not to be able to pick our favorite song. I really do like them all. Used to love Grateful Dead in concert. Now it's Bruce live, but getting too expensive. Once paid over a grand for two seats in DC on 3rd row. Once flew to New Orleans, Indianapolis and then Fargo. All three shows were great. All different. How great to take someone who has never been. This is an album of great anthems!!! Let's learn the words and catch a flight to Europe.

  52. A.... A....

bruce is only artist i lhave listened to for 35 years the fact is he is brilliant as is his band and this is a fantastic album . thank you bruce .my friend is going to her first show at stadium of light cant wait to see her pleasure

  53. b.... ....

2 fatcats don't like this song

  54. e.... p....

    COME POTREMMO VIVERE SENZA BRUCE.

  55. A.... G....

Everyone calls out Bruce that he's rich so can't sing about the poor... well why not? He grew up in a poor household and a poor part of town and he ACHIEVED his riches, he deserves it. Plus many, many, many of his songs are about ESCAPING poverty and repression which is EXACTLY what he did! A genuine inspiration!

  56. r.... ....

@pedrocantina Hey Pedro, fair enough, everyone's got their own take. Thanks for the correction, a typo and I do know the difference. Got tickets for the show? I last saw him at MSG, NYC 11/7/09, the entire WISS Album show, a dream come true. Will you be buying this album? It will be released on my 53rd B Day, so a good present. The first album I bought in '82 was Nebraska. BInUSA was my first concert, but I didn't fully get him then. Seeing 2 shows in April in CA will make 11 in all.

  57. P.... C....

@randy11kat If you're older than me then it is very, very sad that you don't know the difference between your and you are....very very sad...time for an adult grammar class for you.... and that lack of elementary knowledge and comprehension would explain why you're so inclined to think of this song as anything other than a below average attempt by Bruce. I know who Marsh is and I am a huge Springsteen fan, that's why I am so critical.

  58. r.... ....

@pedrocantina There IS way more to this song than a lot of casual listeners will get. That's the beauty of the medium though. Everyone gets what they get base on where they are in life and their experiences of life. Be well.

  59. r.... ....

@pedrocantina My guess, your young and obviously disrespectful. Probably not much of a serious Springsteen fan. Do you read? Then check out some of Dave Marsh's books on The Boss. They are insightful and may give you a new perspective on Bruce's song writing. Also, would suggest E-Street Radio on SirisXM, Ch 20. Your welcome! How many shows, albums, bootlegs do you own? The Man intentionally wrote this as a pop hit with mass/simple appeal. But to each their own. Your'e entitled to yours.Cheers

  60. B.... ....

Why the fuck are people hating. If u don't like it don't fuckin listen to it. It's a great album tell a story. Great job Bruce.

  61. P.... C....

@randy11kat Oh my god....you ARE an idiot. I'm sorry, I thought I was talking to someone who understood things. I know all of that, you big dummy. That had nothing to do with what I said. Wow. Are you a dull blade. Wow. Unbelievable.

  62. r.... ....

@pedrocantina References made to New Orleans & Super Dome as failures to take care of our own. BornUSA was NOT a patriotic song, neither is this. It's calling US to task. Where're the eyes, the eyes with the will to see
Where're the hearts that run over with mercy
Where's the love that has not forsaken me
Where's the work that set my hands, my soul free
Where's the spirit that'll reign, reign over me
Where's the promise from sea to the shining sea
Where's the promise from sea to the shining sea

  63. G.... ....

@RUSHIE1892 True True But as a rich man how does Bruce get through that eye of the Needle to reach the promise land?

  64. G.... ....

@RUSHIE1892 true True But how does Bruce as a rich man get through that eye of a needle?

  65. P.... C....

@randy11kat read between the lines? You act as if we take care of our own is some poetic masterpiece that you have to pay attention to to understand. The lyrics so simplistically explain the message that it's far from being some ironic masterpiece. It's exactly what it is...there's nothing to read into. It's totally generic and predictable. Nothing new. Certainly nothing close to being unique. Older Springsteen lyrics are all of those things. He's out of ideas.

  66. P.... C....

@randy11kat nah there's nothing. Not comparable to born in the USA, sorry. This is very generic, the chord changes sound totally forced and done just because a chord change is needed for it not to be totally repetitive...not organic. The melody is just repeated throughout the entire song by ALL the backing instruments and vocals. It's just so lame. And the topic is snore snore boring. From the shotgun shack to the superdome...lame

  67. r.... ....

@pedrocantina Please read between the lines. There is power, anger and cynicism w/in this Born In The USA style, post financial crash anthem. Actually this song is amazingly tight and well crafted. Depending on ones POV &, how much one knows about current events & the singer's leanings, this song can be taken any number of ways. Bruce is a master craftsman, doesn't just write a song for the hell of it. Reexamine those lyrics: Where are the eyes, the eyes w/the will to see? This verse says it all

  68. R.... ....

It is not a dumb remark, because you have to realise it was Jesus who gave us Bruce in the first place! A Gift from GOD!!!

  69. P.... C....

That we take care of our own is one horrible, lazy, generic, and forced song. But this is a great addition to Bruce's songs.

  70. G.... ....

@richard72183 Jesus is the truth bruce is a lie

  71. A.... L....

    Come to PAKISTAN Boss!
This is undoubtedly extremely addictive owing to the great lyrics and that melody! God I want to marry that sound and tune!

  72. a.... ....

    WoW!!!!!

  74. C.... S....
