Bruce Springsteen - Balboa Park Lyrics

He lay his blanket underneath the freeway
As the evening sky grew dark
Took a sniff of toncho from his coke can
And headed through Balboa Park
Where the men in their Mercedes
Come nightly to employ
In the cool San Diego evening
The services of the border boys

He grew up near the Zona Norte
With the hustlers and smugglers he hung out with
He swallowed their balloons of cocaine
Brought 'em across to the Twelfth Street strip
Sleeping in a shelter
If the night got too cold
Runnin' from the migra
Of the border patrol

Past the salvage yard 'cross the train tracks
And in through the storm drain
They stretched their blankets out 'neath the freeway
And each one took a name
There was X-man and Cochise
Little Spider his sneakers covered in river mud
They come north to California
End up with the poison in their blood

He did what he had to for the money
Sometimes he sent home what he could spare
The rest went to high-top sneakers and toncho
And jeans like the gavachos wear

One night the border patrol swept Twelfth Street
A big car come fast down the boulevard
Spider stood caught in its headlights
Got hit and went down hard
As the car sped away Spider held his stomach
Limped to his blanket 'neath the underpass
Lie there tasting his own blood on his tongue
Closed his eyes and listened to the cars
Rushin' by so fast

It is very sad.  I used to live but a 20 minute drive from the San Diego/Tijuana border.  This was back in the 70's and 80's and I used to watch them simply walk across an imaginary border line next to the ocean.  Entire families.  But things have changed drastically.  What these people have to do get into this country is unimaginable and horrific.

I've always wanted to visit Ireland.  From what I've seen, it looks to be both a charming and most beautiful place.  Don't know that I would understand the speech though :-))  I'm not good with foreign accents.   I live in Oregon, USA which is located in the Pacific Northwest of this country.  It's a beautiful and very rugged state, which is what helps in stay so pristine.  People can't build on every spot of land due to it's rugged landscape as we have the Cascade Mountain Range running through our state.  Here is a view I'm always proud to share with people.  I live at the base of the tallest mountain in the state and about a 40 minute drive from the most of the waterfalls you will see.  Hope you enjoy!Take care!Watch in HD and on full screen if possible...….https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xviqK0uFx90

@MissDistarr60 thank you Miss. I'll watch it now. It sounds so beautiful. I cant wait to see it. Yes Ireland is ok I suppose lol. Thank you. Ive always wanted to go to the USA. Its so big!! Ireland is just a cabbage patch compared to it lol. I come from Limerick City, thats in the Southwest. Did you ever hear of the Cranberries?? Well thats where they came from. Id say Limerick could be the 3rd biggest city here. Then we have the trouble in the North. Thats a different story for a different time lol. Ah well what happened happened, cant change the past.. What time is it over there now?? Its 10.57 at night here 🤗🤗🤗💋💋💋
