In my opinion this is still the best version. But do agree that Young's harmonica playing is 'superior' to that in this version

A great song from that great 1995 album "The Ghost of Tom Joad". Very emotional, very very Bruce.I think "across the border" really means the end of life, and what's on the other side - pastures of gold and green. It is a religious song, almost a gospel.

Yikes I hope not but you mat be right,Bruce has some strange religious ideas.It resonates to me as a song for all the refugees in the world,especially relevant in these days with Trump's disgraceful border wall.

I agree that The Ghost of Tom Joad is his best work. It is exceptional, and this in.comparison to a lifetime of incredible work. I love this man. And this album makes me want to be a better person. My favourite work of all artists. This is about the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Did I mention I love this man?

This song was one of the songs played on my wedding day. Very Special.

I have been following The Boss since he first began touring. I have seen him in rooms with a hundred people..if that. There were many tunes he did with Danny on the accordion. It is one of my favorite configurations. I would have loved to have heard what Bruce said just after the video cut. It was good to see Danny smile. I miss him a lot.

The Ghost Of Tom Joad is Bruce's best album period. The album (excluding the last track) belongs in the Library of Congress.
Those who consider Born to Run or Born in the USA his best material are NOT fans of Springsteen (proper) and I intensely hate you.

I love this song. The first version I heard was a cover by Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris. I have a new appreciation for Bruce after having heard both versions!

Possibly the greatest version of Across the Border I have ever heard. Did some research this video is from an ABC special "Where it's At: The Rolling Stone State of the Union" in 1998. Later shown on MTV and VH-1. My question: anybody know where the original footage can be downloaded in it's entirety ? Across the Border version here is magical, but is obviously an edited version- any way you or anybody else can post the complete version from this special ? Also Ghost of Tom Joad from same ?

One of the prettiest songs he's ever done. A real favorite of mine. On the Tom Joad tour, he did a gorgeous falsetto hum at the end that just gave you chills. When I saw him on the Devils & Dust tour in Norfolk, Va., he had Bruce Hornsby come out and play a subtle piano accompaniment, and it was one of the greatest things I've ever seen on a concert stage.

I have scene him 3 times in my life (17 years) My favorite being my first Bruce concert; Nov. 11th 2005 in Norfolk VA. on his D&D tour. The last time i saw him was ironically November 11th 2007 in DC. He is easily my favorite musician. There is very little good music out there and im glad i found Bruce.
