Bruce Cockburn - The Coming Rains Lyrics
All day the mountains rose behind a veil of smoke from burning fields
And road dust dyeing black skin bronze and the road rolling like a rough sea
It's quiet now, just crickets and a dog fight somewhere in the far away
In my heart I hold your photograph
And the thought of you comes on like the feel of the coming rains
Hot breeze ran its fingers through the long grass of a thatched roof eave
They stuck me in the only chair they had while they cooked cassava
And a luckless hen
They asked for one well three lanterns and 200 litres of fuel and
I said, "Who, me?"
And the time for planting's coming soon
And the thought of you comes on like the feel of the coming rains
In the town neon flickers in the ruins
Seven crows swoop past the luscious moon
I'd come panting to your door and slide like smoke into your room
All day the mountains rose behind a veil of smoke from burning fields
And road dust dyeing black skin bronze and the road rolling like a rough sea
It's quiet now, just crickets and a dog fight somewhere in the far away
In my heart I hold your photograph
And the thought of you comes on like the feel of the coming rains
And the time for planting's coming soon
And the thought of you comes on like the feel of the coming rains

Cover bands ,, trying to do a Bruce Cockburn I dought it.. I play but copy Cockburn ,, Impossible,.
Bruce is great but the way his band mate that seem to change over time really no how to highlight his music ,, The bass and drums phenomenal.
Thank you , Bruce, I've liked most of your later music. Just had no avenue to express that.
the vibes on this collection, charity of the night, make this a very unique sound for Bruce. love his music.
Hug's and kisses man
I will get this album!!! Thankful for this !!!!!!
Pure beauty and genius
Yes, agreed. Not many artists's music cut straight to your heart like Professor Cockburn's does. And not to mention how well they do it!
Cool tune, but from the point of arrangement, I think that the vibraphone makes this sound like elevator music. Imagine pedal steel in place of the vibes and this takes on a totally different 'vibe', appropriate for a song with this title. ; ]
I agree Anje. I think poor 'theoriginalbillholt' just rides in crappy elevators. Maybe he lives in New York City? Sorry to be one of those 'grim travelers'.
i adore Bruce Cockburn's writing and playing. Gorgeous video too.

my deep tip of the hat to whomever made this video. it is sensitively gorgeous. bravo.
I used to live in south eastern Colorado, the mention of the mountains behind the burning fields reminds me of that area. They used to burn last years vegetation off of the fields before spring planting.
Wow, what a song!
First I have heard this song, as I am waiting for dawn over the rockies. Thanks.
You're welcome Bob, thanks for checking it out. The Charity of Night is a good album.
Wow the best time to listen to this beautiful song.

i only have about one or two hundred 'all time favorite' bruce cockburn songs...and this is one of them! thanks for the song and great vid.i particularly like the clouds creating the crescent 'man in the moon' from 3:10 to 3:18. nicely done, especially considering bruce's love affair with the moon!
