Brian Wilson - Orange Crate Art Lyrics

Orange crate art was a place to start
Orange crate art was a world apart
Home for two with view of sonoma
Where there's aroma and heart
Memories of her orange crate art

Orange crate table and a rockin' chair
Barnyard gate waiting some repair
Trust in fate and sweet inspiration
You could go bust to replace
Just what is here by the case

Hear the lonesome locomotion roar
Hobo hop on if you dare
And it rolls where grapes of wrath are stored
Stops on a bracero's prayer

On the dawn of a vintage cruise
Calms the wine of this rendezvous
Room for two in view of sonoma
Back when ramona had heart
Memories of her orange crate art

Room for two in view of sonoma
Back when ramona had heart
Memories of her orange crate art

    Love this record beyond words!

  2. J.... P....

    Did Brian produce this?

  3. T.... P....

    Beautiful song

  4. P.... P....

The harmony that artists like Van Dyke Parks, Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson and Brian wilson used is unmatched, wonderfully complex but simple at the same time

I don't know how to feel about this, but I'm glad I heard it once. I'll listen again in 7 years and get back with you. ;-)

Listen seven times a day and you'll get it!

curious about the album cover art--any notions of artist and subject? I have an oil of the same scene painted in the late 20's or 30's. I believe the barn or house still stands on the back road from Novato to Pt Reyes.

sue girard get the cd. It has many other paintings inside. You are correct, style of the 1920s and 1930s. You will enjoy it. Also, this album has some more great songs on it.

    s.... g....

It is actual orange crate art.

    s.... g....

Three years late to replying but the painting is called Nipomo Hills, by Alfred Richard Mitchell, circa 1950.

  11. R.... D....

    SUBLIME

  12. G.... B....

Parmi tous ces instruments à cordes, la voix trouve ici une place privilégiée !

    G.... B....

    用英文,要不然我们看不懂你

  13. P.... G....

    It's beautiful. Shut up!....Little Richard.

  14. T.... ....

The production is beautiful.  Brian Wilson oversaw every note and adjustment of it.  The production is part of his voice. The production is his voice.

What is infinitely more interesting is how the lyrics and music so perfectly evoke California.  If your've never been there, and I mean the whole state, not just LA, you wouldn't understand.

    T.... ....

If Van Dyke wrote the melodies and lyrics, how did Brian arrange the vocals? As a paid songwriter myself, I'm curious as to how you frame your answer. I think you're someone that doesn't want to admit that your hero didn't really have much to do with the creation of this album.

    T.... ....

    TedSilar,
I understand how it feels to get caught flat-footed....Brian Wilson had some glorious moments in both composition and arrangement...just not on this record. Look, Van Dyke ain't no slouch - it's not like Brian is getting slagged by some hack. As I recall, Brian in the early-mid 90's was in the throes of a rather severe borderline personality disorder...not condusive to high level creativity.

    T.... ....

@William L. You don't even know what a borderline personality is. Talk about Youtube experts.

    T.... ....

    TheBoldImperator
And are YOU the expert among "experts"? Talk about annoying fuckwads.

    T.... ....

YouTube "Songwriter" doesn't know the difference between "melody" and "harmony."

  15. P.... T....

Great song. But very strange production. Brian has a beautiful voice, why destroy it in this production?

    P.... T....

Have a little respect for music legends.

    P.... T....

Let's tell the truth about musical legends. These two guys have contributed more to western art than most can ever hope to, but they have flaws like everyone else. To shy away from those flaws is to paint an untrue picture and engage in hagiography. And I would want no part in that. All credit where due - but none where it isn't. I say that as one who sees BW and VDP as two of his most revered artists.

    P.... T....

Presse Teknikk Someone or the uploaded has changed the pitch. I have this cd from way back. This definitely sounds different & has a higher adjusted pitch. It's a shame. Such a beautiful song

    P.... T....

I don't think it was anybody's doing really, digital recording at this time ruined a lot of music. It was bright and shitty sounding. Brian was old, but the lack of reverb or anything emotional is clearly noted by when it was recorded. The coke binges had finally ended in the production community and everyone started to make everything literally the opposite of a Dolby A tape EQ. There's actually a decent amount of recording equipment especially consoles made back then that have polarity issues in the transformer supply for the master channel. XTC's Skylarking had a similar issue with phase below certain frequencies that sounded fine on the studio monitors but didn't get picked up until much later on.

    P.... T....

@Ben Culture very true.. also I hear a medicated person or some scars of a mentally anguished guy.

  16. M.... O....

He still hits some falsetto notes but not as soft sounding, i would say you are hearing Jeff Foskett (if he is even credited, i haven't checked). Closest to "young" Brian i've ever heard, so good together though especially the SMiLE '04 shows i saw them at!

    M.... O....

All Brian vocals on this track.

  17. I.... C....

Nice song! Is that Brian doing the slight falsetto?

    I.... C....

    "Slight" falsetto?
