Brenda Lee - Only When I Laugh Lyrics

So, it's finally over
Had to happen but, no big deal
After all of that off again and on, what else is new

Well I said, well, will yaw catch me crying,
Not this kid will
Will I soon forget you, I just did
Does it really hurt me
Only when I laugh

Is my heart finally numb yet
Well, I don't think that I feel one thing
After too long of running cold and hot, then cold,
You end up blue

So I just did changing on my mailbox, suits me fine
And since you've gone your way, I'll go mine
Does it really hurt me,
Only when I laugh

Every time I fell in love,
I never fell completely
The joke is,
I was saving something for a person I thought was you

Well I guess I was dreaming
Glad the factor is dead and gone
And if my mind has keeps running back and forth,
And back and forth
Don't take that as a clue

It was a minor operation, I pulled through
Opened up my life and took out you
The only scars the heart that's neatly torn in half

Does it really hurt me
Only when I laugh

Born Brenda Mae Tarpley. Brenda hit #32 in Billboard, 12-12-81. God bless you, Wilbur, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed week!

In the mist of memory I seem to remember this song playing over the End Credits of the film. It wasn't this version but just Brenda with no back up chorus. This is clearly the 'single release'. I thought the song was great but I remember the song was not reviewed well (it may have won a Razzie) and I have not seen it in TV or video in subsequent viewings. Maybe it's rights or Brenda's label or they just decided to remove after initial release (like Donna Summer's The Deep song)>

For some reason this song was not heard when the film was played on TV, in fact not much of it was in the first release of the film. I recall seeing credit for the song in the news paper ads at the time of its first release.

Certainly a very smooth song from Brenda with the pop-country arrangement typical of the 80's but she does a great vocal job on it.

    Thanks

I have 'always' been a fan of Brenda - always!
