Brand New - Vices Lyrics
"Far away from any road,
Roams my heart in solitude,
Where no passer-by can see,
On life's highway, God, with Thee,
Thy compassion shall prevail.
Father, with Thee let me be,
On life's highway, God, with Thee."
We need vices (oh),
We need vices (oh),
Where's all my hope and my marriage license,
(where's my head?)
Those days are dead
Those days are dead
(forgive me)
Those days are dead
(forgive me)
We need vices at fifty thousand degrees
She said goodbye to the ground
She said goodbye to the ground
She said goodbye to the ground
And jumped
I got creative (oh no),
To try to kill the major,
Where is my trigger?
My mind eraser
(we sing that so subtle...)
And that forest burned
(you see smoke...)
That forest burned
(a halo...)
That forest burned
(a halo...)
We need ten years, everyone, so we can return
She said goodbye to the ground
She said goodbye to the ground
She said goodbye to the ground
She said goodbye to the ground
She said goodbye to the ground
And jumped
We need vices (oh),
We need vices (oh),
We have neither the plans nor the disguises
'Cause those days are dead
(forgive me)
'Cause those days are dead
(forgive me)
'Cause those days are dead
(forgive me)
We need vices to wave to the good old days
She said goodbye to the ground
She said goodbye to the ground
She said goodbye to the ground
And jumped

While not this exact song when I saw them a few years ago they did open their set with an old timey song like the beginning of this one
jarhetttt They opened with Sowing Season for a few tours which is similar to this but it doesn’t have the build up Vices has if that makes sense

Alright then
This song is a fucking masterpiece. Brand New are so underrated.
Drum break at 2:53 makes me clench my teeth every time. So much yes.
The drumming is orgasmic...

I remember when I first heard this, creeped the fuck out me haha.
This absolutely blew me away the first time I heard it. Wasn't expecting it at all. Huge start to a fucking incredible album.
Did anyone else nearly jump out of their skin when they first heard this song?
macaroni.tech yes.... I remember when the track opened with the old song, I was like "ohh shit.... I'm ready for the loudness...." And then BAM BAM BAM BAM!! I wish I could find other songs that do this, they use a sample and then they play really loudly, it's the best thing ever!
I had to look at my phone cause I thought shuffle similar artists had started and I had to make sure this was still Brand New.
Seriously, what the actual hell. This is spectacular.
I really like how much brand new changes across album. At first they were pretty pop punk in your favorite weapon and Emo in deja entendu and in this they had some post hardcore
This album is pretty emo too. Just a completely different side of it.
Where's the beginning from?
Darude - Sandstorm
It's a 1920s gospel song called On Lifes Highway
the thing jesse does with his voice at 2:10 is mesmerizing
skip to 01:25 you're welcome
Why would you want to do that?
THIS IS AUTISM THAT DEVOLVED INTO THE DUMP I TOOK TODAY

"Where's all my hope and my marriage license?"
Correct lyrics:
"Far away from any road,
Froze my heart in solitude,
Where your passerby can see,
Our life's highway guard within,
Knowing when our last does fail,
Our compassion shall be met,
Everything, let me be,
Our life's highway guard within."
We need vices (oh),

We need vices to wave to the good old days
She said goodbye to the ground

+The Film Addict I was almost certain it was "On life's highway God with thee." Huh.
Where is my shrink and my mind eraser
"Our good Creator (oh no) The dog in the manger. Where is my shrink and my mind's eraser? (we sing a sad song)"
It's like a modern version of Fugazi, sounds great!
I was listening to this song and my mum walked in at the wrong time. She almost had a heart attack.
Absolutely a great band and a fantastic song to accompany a brilliant album.
