Brand New - Untitled 2 Lyrics

She was just 17
Pious and pretty with a deadly disease
And the weight of the world on her prosthetic shoulder
And by the summer of '96
Her body was cracked like porcelain
Just like some precious moments collectible
In a hospital gown and a big bright golden halo

And so three cheers for my morose and grieving pals
And now let's hear it for the tears that I've welled up
We've come too far to have to give it all up now
We live lives that are rich and blessed
And we'll burn for how we transgress

Now I've mastered the art
Of the open casket prayer, and the singing guitar
And I've found the rewards weren't half what I'd hoped for
And meanwhile we all feigned hope and mirth
As her parents went on and lied to her
All about the success of the surgeries
And how my ex-girlfriend was now sleeping with her fiance

And so three cheers for my morose and grieving pals
And now let's hear it for the tears that I've welled up
We've come too far to have to give it all up now
We live lives that are rich and blessed
And we'll burn for how we transgress

If there's any justice in heaven
Then God won't let me in
He'll lock the gates and take my weekend pass away
With a sympathetic wave they'll see me off
Reserve my golden crown while I am cursed to walk the earth for a millennia
I know I deserve worse but it terrifies me and I can't take it anymore

And so three cheers for my morose and grieving pals
And now let's hear it for the tears that I've welled up
We've come too far to have to give it all up now
We live lives that are rich and blessed
And we'll burn for how we transgress

Jesse Lacey tried too hard to be Morissey here. He’s a good copy and and I know that’s you inspiration. Let it go.

Come at me. I’ve been following this band since the early 2000’s. The quality they put out. I can’t believe they haven’t done a folk album.

  2. J.... R....

This song is like a Jesse lacey first time weird version of Degausser, You Won't Know and Not the Sun alllllll combined into a deja entu bla bla fucking lacey brand new formula...of songs so amazingly exist bc he was so obsessive. Pure 2000s emo asf art that cannot BE REDONE. FINALLY.

  3. J.... L....

    This album is a masterpiece.

  4. G.... M....

But both and feel deceived! Good song though have to give you that✌️

  5. T.... C....

The biggest similarity between jessie lacey and morrissey is their breathy sometimes drawn out vocal delivery lIke they both compress a lot of syllables into fast sometimes hard to understand vocal notes and they both whisper when they sing and they draw out really short words "I am human and I need to be loooooved" morrisey draws that short word out in a sustained falsetto and jesdie lacey and I will diiiiiie all alone" the difference is morrisey usually hits high notes whereas jessie lacey yells a lot probably because his vocal range is a lot lower and lesser and they both put this throat effect on their voices morrissey sounds like grover whereas jessie lacey sounds like an angry or whiny adolescent and they are writing music less about relation ships and more about sexual encounters compare this charming man to me vs Maradona vs elvis they are both about random encounters and how they become sexual but gender of the subject is irrelevant and they are both what I consider hopeless songwriters they're huge fucking pessimists for the most part but previous comments were pretty spot on when they said Vincent accordi is nothing like johnny marr their styles are very different with one key similarity they both play what I call "attention riffs" the guitar usually stands out from the vocals because the singer is the spotlight in these bands so the guitarists do the best they can to grab some attention with their riffs and solos and as far as bassists go they are both solid but the brand new bassist is definitely better at writing stand out bass lines at least in my opinion just think of sic transit Gloria that is an amazing bass line really creates the eerie feel of the song however this is just my opinion I love both bands for what they are and have covered songs by both bands and there is more similarity than you think if you dissect the music and vocals of both bands and people tend to forget how difficult it is tone go back and forth between singing and screaming or in this more of a yelling vocal style bUT jessie lacey is one of the best he goes from crisp smooth vocals to raspy almost screech like singing which is nuts and I've seen him life a few times and I was amazed by his transitions and even more his composure while playing live he is rather emotionless even while singing his sensitive little heart out or yelling like a pissed off broken hearted teenage boy and we all know morrissey has crazy vocal ranges and smoothness in his songs and his vocal transitions are for the most part flawless it's just a completely different way that morrisey does it and I know that was really long haha but I love both bands and wanted to share my opinion on the matter

    T.... C....

Ignore my numerous mistakes I was typing this on my phone while rushing around haha

    T.... C....

Jesus, dude. Please put punctuation in your comments. You have a good analysis, but, it's nearly unreadable because of it being one giant run on sentence.

    T.... C....

    Too long didnt read

  6. D.... ....

I wish he would remaster the leaked songs and do an album with them minus fork and knife since that ended up being released

    D.... ....

@DoubIeRose My guess is that Missing You (Beacon/Untitled 04) will be released on a new album. They play it live now and the song has a new verse and ending. Also they play a full band version of Brothers (Untitled 03) so maybe that will be released too, but an acoustic version and Aloc Acoc exists so maybe not.. I think Jesse loved all these songs so much and it sucks they were leaked, we could have had a very different record.

Don't take my word for any of this, just my speculation.

    D.... ....

@seemyownfuture Untitled 4 is a great song so I hope it comes back.

    D.... ....

+DoubIeRose Your wish came true! Keep on listenin. The new untitled 2 is sooooooooo great. It's called 1996 now.

  7. A.... H....

this should have went on the album, idc how many people heard it before, it's better than some of the songs on it

    A.... H....

    which album? d&G?

  8. G.... K....

I dl'ed this back in the day with Morpheus.... the file said it was Millstone, so for years I couldn't find THIS song..... I somehow just found it and I'm SO pumped! It's not only a great song, but one of those songs you thought you'd never hear again... so good

    G.... K....

dude, so funny. same thing with me!!!! I'm in tears, this was the song that got me into them so many years ago :')

  9. J.... U....

This is actually pretty Morrissey-y (you know what I mean) but Marr would never play a riff like that

    J.... U....

He didn't play like that because his rig didn't produced such compressed tones. Benefits of having gear 30 years in the future.

  10. J.... C....

Morrissey is a dick head though. Aha,

  11. D.... B....

I said Brand New's songs are about girls. Morrissey kept it a lot more ambiguous. Yes I know he is gay

  12. P.... E....

Morrissey was as queer as they come, those songs probably werent about girls. Just sayin'.

  13. j.... ....

Morrissey is a extreme vegan/animal rights asshole who is always getting sick because he's a miserable human being

  14. o.... G....

Morrissey's a fucking legend, there's the difference dick head.

  15. t.... ....

how is morrissey a huge influence on this? jesse says he reveres the smiths, i get that, but his music isn't influenced by them. the smiths is jangly guitar pop songs; brand new is rough contemplative rock. morissey's lyrics are dark and funny; jesse's are dark and often touch on hopelessness and longing. both are great bands, but are from different movements of music, they do not sound the same. only exception i can think of is milestone, which has similar lyrics to "there is a light"

  16. D.... B....

Not what I even said...never even said brand new was bad. just incomparable to the smiths.

  17. B.... S....

Yea. Morrissey never sang any songs about relationships. ever.

  18. D.... B....

sort of in the lyrics. besides that no. the music is simple and his vocal range isnt good. im not saying brand new isnt good, but dont compare them to the smiths.

the smiths give political messages, and teach us about ourselves. brand new mostly talks about girls, theyve got a few songs with ok messages.

  19. K.... N....

but you gotta be able to see morrissey's was a huge influence on this song especially right?

  20. M.... C....

He always references Mozz wherever he is... He idolizes the dude. Maybe if Morrissey gave some recognition he'd feel different.

  21. S.... M....

    Die Young and Save Yourself!!!

  22. z.... ....

you pulled that out of your ass... why?

  23. z.... ....

    dont hate BN

  24. z.... ....

    new brand new

  25. J.... ....

I wish Brand New never wrote Mix Tape. As good of a song as it is. Nobody would bring up the smiths or morrissey

  26. D.... B....

sounds nothing like morrissey. sort of an insult to morrissey to even compare this band. actually its more of an insult to johnny marr because brand news music is NOWHERE near as good or complex

  27. j.... ....

morrisey is a douche, there's the difference

  28. K.... P....

so you think they sound like the smiths? if you think so i am offended by the word inept .

johnny marr would never play a riff like they do. he hates distortion. plus nobody plays like johnny marr.

  29. p.... ....

    You are musically inept.

  30. K.... P....

they arent anything alike.. the only thing alike are the lyrics[kinda]

  31. R.... S....

    What? No.
I'm sorry, but that is stupid.

  32. c.... ....

The Smiths were pioneers. Brand New perfected the art.

  33. r.... ....

I'm not saying this singer is bad, because he isn't bad, but to compare him to the Mozza's vocals is showing this as beyond the capability of what Morrissey has accomplished and influenced over the decades. Not hating on Brand New, at all.

  34. H.... ....

There is no way any other Brand New song sounds anything remotely like Morrissey or The Smiths.

  35. T.... ....

Wow this very morrissey. Amazing song. Brand new is one of the greatest bands I've ever listened too. I do love morrissey too though.

  36. J.... ....

Doesn't take away from my point at all. But sure.

  37. t.... ....

    The Smiths? Obsurce?
You realise Jesse explicitly mentions them in numerous interviews as influences, and even mentions them directly in Mix Tape.
    lrn2music

  38. E.... ....

    His Morissey impression is sick.

  39. J.... G....

You guys just need to shut up and enjoy the music and quit caring about some hypothetical bullshit.

  40. C.... G....

do you have some kind of source for that info? i don't believe it is true. like i said when these demos leaked a fan on a forum i used to frequent made up some names for the demos(for his itunes collection or something like that.) people were going crazy looking for a link to download these demos and he was nice enough to upload the demos for other fans and explained why they had these cheesy names. (morresy song, edge takes over for vin, etc) idk maybe Jtl used to be a smember of that forum lol

  41. S.... W....

Actually Jesse named this Morrissey Song himself. He was influenced by Morrissey and The Smiths so he paid tribute by naming a song after him. :)

  42. C.... G....

i get mad whenever i see the demos titled like this. when the the devil & god demos leaked some guy (a fan) made up these stupid song names for them and now all these years later those dumb names are still around. the only songs names at the time where Cleanser(untitled 5) and yeah (untitled 8) and nobody knew which of the demos they were (people figured it out based on an interview and setlist)....anyway just wanted to rant

  43. A.... W....

Thanks for posting this, but did you know that there is an annoying ocean wave noise (not part of the song, probably from your Windows computer) at 1:43-1:48?

  44. Z.... C....

Jesse Lacey captures Morrissey's voice style so well in this song! Amazing!

  45. J.... ....

Personally, I think it sounds like Jesse Lacey, and Brand New. I mean I could see that they get some inspiration from other music...because, who doesn't? You all sound like pompous/arrogant assholes. Go sit in a coffee shop and talk about your obscure bullshit, nobody cares.

  46. B.... L....

Well if you listen to 'Mix Tape' by these guys they say in the lyrics, "And i'm sick of your tattoos, and the way you always criticize the smiths, and morrissey" so ya definite connection there.

  47. E.... A....

My favorite Brand New Demo. So much emotion leading up to the breakdown and into the bridge! Ugh.

  48. M.... H....

    Gotta love Brand New

  49. m.... ....

@laurenjayyyy brand new have they're own style. and the smiths have inspired them to find it

  50. M.... ....

This is unappealing. Brand New playing this style is reminiscent of dating a really pretty girl who gains weight while you're dating. Its like, yeah she's still got her pretty face but.. c'mon.

  51. N.... ....

this is pretty bad...considering its supposed to be Smiths/Morrissey esque

  52. F.... T....

Thumbs up if you noticed that Jesse says fiance in a similar way that Morissey does.

  53. o.... A....

Thumbs Up If Yur Listening To This , And preparing For Hurricane Irene !! :/

  54. M.... C....

This song is great... A lot of emotion conveyed in about 5 minutes of music.

Man, this is why Brand New is so amazing.

  55. B.... S....

    I love this song. <3
