Bonnie Raitt - Dimming Of The Day Lyrics

This old house is falling down around my ears
I'm drowning in a river of my tears
When all my will is gone you hold me sway
I need you at the dimming of the day

You pulled me like the moon
Pulls on the tide
You know just where I keep my better side

What days have come to keep us far apart
A broken promise or a broken heart
Now all the bonny birds have wheeled away
I need you at the dimming of the day

Come the night you're only what I want
Come the night you could be my confidant

I see you on the street and in company
Why don't you come and ease your mind with me

I'm living for the night we steal away
I need you at the dimming of the day
I need you at the dimming of the day...

Bonnie Raitt Dimming Of The Day Comments
  1. David Parnell

This is the most soulful performance of such a poetic song...ever! Bonnie Raitt can capture the human heart's expression of blues surmounted by none...a beautiful performer...heart and soul in this song.

  2. Paul Bradshaw

  3. David Parnell

Bonnie Raitt...WOW...women are a higher life form! A beautiful artist whose lyrics and song redirect your thoughts either to the place of the song or some other place or other time or love in your life. A twilight of heart and soul and God's gift of sound...a siren sound so lovely your thoughts disengage from the moment and dwell in a higher level of life...time out to ponder what was and what might have been...or tears come too late by years...the beauty of mind and music and Bonnie Raitt...

  4. Susan Deason

  16. Peter Williamson

Painting teachers say success is about showing various shades of a given colour and moving gently from one colour into another. It seems to me songs are similar since if you do the same thing with words you get a wonderful song like this.

  17. dudshumane

  18. Neena Norto

Ain't no one but no one could sing like Alison Krauss

  19. mark counihan

This is one of those moments that the people fortunate enough to witness it in person don't realize how special it really is.

  20. Kevin Parkinson

I like Gilmour' s version , being unaccompanied gives it a soulful intimate feeling.

    Kassandra Elia

me too. I listen to it every day.

  21. TedSilar

    That tears it.

  22. Cindy J

Bonnie Raitt has been with me for all of my adult life. When I was 18 I found her music. And here she is, The Angel from Montgomery with the King of the Dreaming Isles. Beyond words.

Bonnie songs with great emotional power and fervor. And Richard is a genius singer/ songwriter. Bonnie does a stunning version with Paul Brady as well.

  34. city zen

The look on Bonnie's face b4 she sings bespeaks eloquently.

  35. Dippides

Richard Thompson lijkt een beetje op Urbanus.

  36. DasGoldenBoy

and I thought the David Gilmour version was nice. Wow

  37. Paulette Ponte

    wonderful, wonderful song

  38. Jack Twist

To me, in the end, the only thing that matters is if you have some one to lie down with to hold, or be held by, and to listen to one another's breath. And not speak, unless you have something to add to the silence. All the political crap going on is just that. Find some one and hold them and be so grateful you are not alone.

  39. John Bruce

    Magnificent. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

  40. Linda Martin

    Beautiful song😘😊👍❤️💖💗🌺🌹😘🔥

  41. Carl Corbin

Mr. Richard Thompson, a great British songwriter, and a beautiful version of one of his songs by the talented Bonnie Raitt.

  42. Dopey Dawg

Bonnie Raitt could sing the alphabet, and I'd listen to it. She has a voice that could melt stone. Not seen her live, it's the last thing on my bucket list. Amazing!!

  52. mark price

Bonnie is a great guitarist in addition to great singer and writer.

  53. Wil RockQ

I just stumbled on this. Wow, I had no idea Bonnie Raitt has pipes like that. Holy ... she’s got an incredible voice.

  54. Luann Rouff

I like this song, a lot, but this has to be one of the worst versions of it (in my opinion). It's so slow I want to scream, and they're trying so hard to pull our heart strings. I don't know...didn't work for me.

  55. Jenna Corley

David Gilmore's version is probably my favorite.

  56. Maggie Grace Webb

I found a cassette tape of my Dad singing this for my Mom back in 1999... I'll always hear his voice when I listen to it

    Bjorn A'grin

    Cool family!

  57. Holly Wood

131 thumbs down. What will the aliens think when they see THAT?

    Wayne Staats

    Maybe insanity?

  58. Gatto Nero

Raitt honors (and doubles down on) the heartbreak in the original and makes the song her own. Linda Thompson's version expresses her sorrow with exquisite restraint, while Bonnie lets the raw emotion carry her. A cover version should bring something new to the song, and Bonnie and Richard do that beautifully while preserving its elegiac tone. It brings tears to my eyes every time.

  59. Fiona Phillips

Adore this song, it speaks to me, always has ! Beautiful !

  60. xxHouseInMotionxx

its a great honor but pour a little wine out for Linda... :D

  70. Ken Yount

I love Bonnie, but it's almost sacrilege for anyone other than Linda to sing this song.

  71. Kamel AMMI ALI

  86. Alan Courtenay-Bishop

    damn super1

  87. Ciara Sidine

A heart-breaking performance - I wonder if Richard Thompson was inspired by the Irish ballad the Dawning of the Day. Very beautiful song and rendition - Bonnie is an inspiration.

  88. mikebtko

    Her Ballads are so incredible!

  89. greenlight studios

Every time I hear this it takes about 3 bars in and I can literally feel the tumblers to my heart spin and click. Then I’m there - right there in the groove with them - tears streaming down my face. And that happened when I first heard it off Pour Down Like Silver and just now - 43 years later. Now THAT is a piece of art.

  90. Ishmael Smith

He's slumming-it a bit here. Raitt's usual Me-Too performance, she should have shut-up, been content singing harmony to Maestro Thompson, instead of this tripe. No business like showbusiness.

  91. Evelyn Overcash

  92. John Watts

Was working in the centre of Birmingham. One day, the whole place was full of people who looked happy to be there. Asked one of them what was going on. "Bonnie Raitt at Symphony Hall" I had never heard of her. I have now!
