This was my introduction to Michael Bolton, so obviously all the crap he did afterwards just plain sucked. I played this for my brother one time, back in 1988, when Dyke of the Day was all over the charts. He was like, "who is this?" I said, "Michael Bolton!"

Went back and listened to Fools Game and surprisingly I like it! Remember that I didn't like the hard rock or heavy metal. I do listen to How Can We Be Lovers If We Can't Be Friends and I forgot about Steel Bars!

This was my first experience with Michael Bolton. Thought he was a good, hard rocker. Imagine my surprise when he came out with "Dock of the Bay." Then, I realized what he was. SHAME.

What's sad is that this phase of his career seems to have been written off by him. None of his early, hard edged stuff like this (or the even earlier songs he did with his hard rock band Blackjack) made it onto his greatest hits CD. Yeah sure, being a soft ballad crooner brought him fame and put food on his table. But his early stuff is great and deserves more than a look see on You Tube.

Bruce Kulick is in this. Video I think....Don Dokken told me a story of Bolton rocking the Whiskey and Troubadour with Quiet Riot and Van Halen! Just amazing!

He used to be the frontman of a heavy metal band back in the 70’s. So cool 😎.

Yep, a band called Blackjack. Back then, he performed under his real last name Bolotin. Bruce Kulick (later joined KISS) was also a member. Their only charting single was "Love Me Tonight"--peaking at #62 on the August 18, 1979 Billboard Hot 100.

I read about that and found it to be very interesting. Funny how he resembled Billy Squire back them from what I saw in his pictures when he was younger too. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but to me it sure seems like a very close resemblance of the two. Another thing I found interesting is after he wrote “Forever” for KISS, his sound seriously comes out in a huge way. That’s a fantastic song.

@Brandi Reynolds it must have been weird for Bruce to be a member of a band enjoying their biggest hit in years ("Forever" was KISS' first top ten pop hit since "Beth" in late '76) and co-written by a former band mate of his (the then red hot Michael Bolton).

He did... I saw him live on the Hunger tour... he played that solo and others. Wore a black les paul most of the show. He played guitar all the time in his Blackjack band as well. Kulick plays the really tough solos, but Michael had his share.

He was in a band called Blackjack before his solo stuff. other members were Sandy Generro (Pat Travers, Cindi Lauper) and Bruce Kulick (Kiss, ESP) and they were really good. Label just never got behind them. Check it out.

Im old enough to actually remember when Bolton was in a couple of decent bands before hitting Superstardom as a solo artist. He was in Blackjack & then this Band. They actually got good critical success. Most rock n roll journalists praised Michaels "SINGING CHOPS"!! He had a fabulous voice which wasnt very common coming from this Oversaturated market.
