Una delle farse più tristi e imbarazzanti mai viste e sentite. Un palese oltraggio ai veri tenori nostrani come: Corelli, del Monaco, Di Stefano, per citarne alcini. La lirica è tecnica, anima e interpretazione. Bocelli è decisamente sopravvalutato, si limitasse al pop e altre facezie

Ricordiamo che questo qui è stato uno degli allievi più stimati da Corelli, non riesco a capacitarmi di cosa sia passato x la testa al grande tenore anconetano il giorno che lo fece entrare nella sua scuola.

Anyone who knows opera knows Boccelli is completely out of his league here.

This is just awful. As for the greatest Di Quella Pira just now?! - try Ramon Vargas, Jonas Kaufmann, Vittorio Grigolo, Rolando Villazon, Juan Diego Flores, Joseph Calleja, Roberto Allagna and more. Any of these could do a much better job. Mr Bocelli should avoid arias like this - he can't sing them properly and it is embarrassing to watch and to listen to.

My breath stopped. This is the most difficult aria of the opera literature. The high C is brillant et the end. Bocelli is a lyric tenor his voice is not as poweful as a spinto tenor but hi solved this task excellent. Bravo Bocelli!

don't know i do not lkike it. Opera is not just a high C at the end. Singer must move, show emotiontional things. Here i can not see that. maybe in studio it is ok but not for live performance. Same for Pavarotti. Really great singer for studio but not for live evnt.

Ognuno ha i suoi limiti! Bocelli nell'opera lirica perde naturalezza e intonazione perché sa di essere carente quando va su certe note! Questo chiaramente lo innervosisce e quindi rende ancora meno di quello che avrebbe potuto fare.. Limitarsi alle canzoni o al massimo a cantare alcune operette sarebbe meglio! Bocelli ha una bella voce un ottima presenza sonora (e dopotutto anche scenica) ma Verdi sarebbe meglio lasciarlo ad altri!

Well! I have to admit, this is not the best version of "Di Quella Pira", it is kinda cold, until he shot the end with an explosive voice... But no it is an average version!
Nevertheless I have to admit, that I have attended a Bocelli's concert last month, and I can assure you all! He sang the best "Di Quella Pira" in the world right now, it was just perfect!

Ma quelli che criticano, prima di farlo, hanno provato a studiare uno spartito e cimentarsi nell'impresa? Io temo che i tre quarti della gente che parla non sappia nemmeno posizionare un Do3 sullo spartito. Comunque la voce di Bocelli può piacere e può non piacere (come tutto) ma non si può assolutamente dire nulla sulla tecnica che ha. Per me è, e resterà, un tenore lirico capace di interpretare brani Sacri, Opere Verdiane, ecc...

I dont really get these so called opera lovers. They criticize so many singers... even the great Pavarotti was a subject of critic of these people. In his later years, mister Pav was criticized because he wasn't the golden voice anymore, as if all the experience as an artist just didn't matter... that is so sad, cause this kind of people just don´t understand what music is all about. Nowadays they complain and cry about how the golden years of Opera have gone. They keep on comparing stars such as Juan Diego Flores with bigger voices such as Bengiamino Gigli and other monsters of the genre... to me these people are just bitter spirits. That´s it and that´s all, and they like to put opera as something worth of certain elite, when in reality, opera was for the people, thought and created to the people as a way of entertainment.
About the performance here, I think Bocelli did a great job. I just enjoy the way he sings, and I don´t find the need to compare this singer with Pavarotti and with no one else. Bocelli is unique, as was Pavarotti, Gigli, Del Monaco, Corelli, Di Steffano, etc.
One thing here. Bocelli have had a lot of Billboard hits and world records, and took opera and gave it back to the people, but still these bitter spirits criticize him anyway... they really make me lough XD... they just make a fool of themselves.

PhilosophicalDance people who say things like that are part of the problem and why opera is the way it is now . What do you mean real opera singer ? Does a real opera singer have way exaggerated vibrato , a thick sound and a woffy sound . If so then real opera singers are not very pleasant to listen to . With that being said , there is no such thing as a “real opera singer “ . It’s either you sing opera or you don’t , which Bocelli has done. First of all I disagree that you need to have an ear to hear where his faults are , because if you really had an ear it’s obvious that he has one of the greatest and distinct vocies in classical music history . Today , so many opera singers sound the same and it’s a shame . His voice is not conventional but it’s great none the less .

He is an operatic tenor , it’s just a fact . Look up his experience if you don’t believe me . Art should be universal! Art is about talent , excellence, and enjoyment . The public loves his performances and that’s really the main concern. Opera should be more accessible to all .

Well. I like Signore Bocelli, I love Verdi´s music, even more what he wrote for tenors, and "Il Trovatore" and the Stretta are my favourites in this field. They just don´t fit together here: Andrea Bocelli might sing a breathtaking "Di quella pira" in studio or concert hall, but here he seriously lacks Manrico´s dramatic, tragic and rage. This is no furious call to rescue his beloved mother, no promise to snatch her from his mortal enemy, at least for non-Italian ears, just a nice tenor singing another beautiful tune. Therefore, no thumb from me here.

Voce decisamente inappropriata per il ruolo di Manrico. Voci in ritardo rispetto all'orchestra e viceversa. Vero cantante è chi riconosce che certi ruoli non sono adatti alla sua voce e non li fa. Ipocrita chi pur di dar spettacolo "canta" di tutto. Io lo chiamo fenomeno da baraccone.

A.Bocelli has a pleasant voice, for pleasant songs. Here struggle with the aria, why he does not know his limits ?

How brave to tackle this piece when he cannot see the conductor and he does hit the high notes honestly. Is he just incredibly self confident to sing Verdi in an arena this size or does he place his confidence in the feedback and the microphone? This aria is not for Bocelli's voice - as has been said he lacks the breadth and depth of tone . A better idea might have be La donna e mobile or Questa o quella from Rigoletto as a show piece for him.

The job of a conductor is to look at the SINGER and not the other way around! The orchestra ACCOMPANIES the vocal line.

Nessuno fa conto anche della sua situazione, vorrei vedere voi su un palcoscenico senza vedere nulla... tanto di cappello per quello che riesce a fare!
E poi c'è anche da precisare che la voce è uno strumento delicatissimo e in alcune giornate ci si sveglia senza un filo di voce, chi canta e chi si permette di commentare qui sotto con l'aria da professionista dovrebbe sapere queste cose.

Bocelli è famoso perchè riempe i teatri grazie a tantissime persone, non esperte, che lo ritengono appunto LA voce. Il fatto che sia ceco aggiunge quel tocco finale che fa impazzire il pubblico. Ciò non significa che sia un fenomeno.
Bocelli è un ottimo cantante pop/opera, ma non è un cantante lirico. Cantare "vivo per lei" e "di quella pira" (o "pour mon ame", pezzo al quale non dovrebbe nemmeno avvicinarsi ma che rifà periodicamente) non è esattamente la stessa cosa.
A dicembre andrò probabilmente ad un suo concerto (programma strettamente non operatico!) e sono sicura che sarà molto gradevole , ma che lasciasse la vera opera ai veri cantanti!

Una esecuzione che mi ricorda quella di Leslie Nielsen in "Una Pallottola Spuntata"... solo che il compianto Leslie cantava stonando molto meglio di Bocelli... Un qualcosa di indecente, continui a fare il cantante pop, sempre se sia in grado di fare anche quello, data la scadentissima qualità dell'"artista"

No anger or intesnity in his voice whatsoever, this aria should be very intense and sung agressively with lots of anger and rage apparent. After all, in the scene the tenor manrico hears the news that his mother has been captured and he is outraged and gathers his men to gear up for a battle to the death to save his mother. So clearly it should be sung in almost a shoutted, agressive angry tone

This is a trubute to his great hero, Franco Corelli. Let the blind man sing for crying out loud!

The poor man makes millions happy with his well sung renditions of popular songs but he just is not an opera singer. +RICARDO OCEGUERA best for pop songs and light operetta but does not have the heft or ability too color and vary the tone, especially Verdi here, also voice too small. Sings popular music/songs very well. hopefully turn people on to opera as did Mario Lanza in the 1950's in films like the Great Caruso  and Pavarotti  later,  of course they had voices capable of opera in big houses, though Mario sang opera in a big opera house in one run only, three performances of Pinkerton's in Butterfly,1948, in New Orleans , he went to movies  and concerts, plus a radio show instead of Opera. He did have a  natural very fine voice though.

The production was splendid, but not either the conductor or the tenor. Bocelli is good, but his voice sounds too weak for a Manrico. Also, the way the conductor chose to prolong the ending High C5, shocks me. It's not a lyric piece, but a more dramatic one, so I guess this piece should have been much faster
