Bobby Bare - Sing For The Song Lyrics
Sometimes you sing for the money
Sometimes you sing for the show
Sometimes you sing for the dewy eyed darlings
Still makes them cry don't you know.
But glory don't last very long
And through the haze of the stage
Can you look back to days
When you used to sing for the song?
Sing for the song boy just like you did
When you stood on that corner
And didn't even feel the glow
Sing for the song boy just like you did
Before all of the flash bulbs
And ladies got hold of your soul.
But you really don't make too much money
And you don't give much of a show
And them dewy eyed darling next week will be crying
For somebody else don't you know
But the music's become your burden
And the words all sound twisted and wrong
And the hits that you sell don't taste quite as well
As when you used to sing for the song.
Sing for the song boy just like you did
When you stood on that corner
And didn't even feel the glow
Sing for the song boy just like you did
Before all of the flash bulbs
And cocaine and bright things
And ladies got hold of your soul.
Sing for the song boy just like you did
When you stood on that corner
And didn't even feel the glow
Sing for the song boy just like you did
Before all of the flash bulbs
And cocaine and bright things
And ladies got hold of your soul.
Sing for the song...

Bobby Bare Sing For The Song Comments
A fun song that many kids would have had fun playing on pots and pans.
I was about 4 . Now I'm 49. I love it
I have always loved Bobby Bare songs! What a great memory from my childhood to hear one of his songs again.
great songs to remember
listen in 2x speed thats how the song is supposed to be played at
Wouldn't THAT be a trip?! LMFAO!!
I must be getting old!! I remember when this came out and had allot of radio play. Listened on KXRB AM-1000, Sioux Falls, SD.
Thanks to my school bus driver who got me interested in country music. I use to listen to this song every morning on my way to school on WMAQ-AM 670 in Chicago.
Man I thought I was getting old , I am, but because I remember my grandma playing this record and us all singing in the kitchen, while the popcorn popper popped a bowl before a movie.
I've lived in Fairmont, West Virginia, all my life, and remember hearing it on either WWVA (1170 Wheeling, WV) most likely, or 1080 WEEP Pittsburgh, as those were the two country stations I listened to in '74, though I was also into Top 40. BTW, I also liked WMAQ myself; could pick it up only at night. My favorite country station of all time, though, was NYC's 1050 WHN. One other thing, WMAQ is now WSCR and the Cubs' flagship. They did Cubs games when they won the 2016 World Series.
This charted in late '74. I'm guessing you heard it in early '75, as 'MAQ went country in January of that year. Am I right?
Glad so many people enjoyed hearing this old rare classic, reminds me of my childhood round at my grandads, all the grandkids would sit in the kitchen with pans and whatever utensils we could get, and we'd just go mental singing and clattering those pans! Fun times!
actually why i came here. my grandmother playerd this song
Add me to your list! I probably heard it over WWVA (1170 Wheeling, WV) as I've lived in Fairmont, WV, 75 miles south of there, all my life. Love to hear about somebody from NYC getting this over WHN and from Los Angeles getting it over KLAC (570). One of the comments was from a Chicago-area fellow who said he heard it over Chicago's WMAQ ( I guess from his school bus driver). Thanks so much for this post!
