Bob Seger - Looking Back Lyrics
You hit the street, you feel them staring
You know they hate you you can feel their eyes a glarin'
Because you're different, because you're free
Because you're everything deep down they wish they could be
You're lookin back (lookin back) they're lookin back (lookin back)
Too many people lookin back
You're lookin back (lookin back) they're lookin back (lookin back)
Too many people lookin back
They watch the news, see young men dying
They watch them bleedin' and listen to them lyin'
And if they're normal if they can see
They just reach out and change the channel on the TV
When they could vote, and end the war
They're much too busy fittin' locks upon the back door
Give you a foxhole, a place to hide
Cause when the war come the cops'll be on their side
[Chorus]

Still rings true, the music and the words
Love it, nobody has your sound Bob Seger.
Wasn't Bob in a band called 4 + 1
No but he did have A antiwar song call 2+2
Brother Bob, imported from Detroit. proud
RIP...Skip.
yes indeed to many people looking to many people looking back
The music makes me look back. Back Back Back
Freedom to stop living in others BS which means Total peace0
Even though it's not HD, I've listened to every version and this one sounds the best although there is some distortion around 1:46 that you hear intermittently. But Bob's vocals are the best on this cut, I think.
Another MOTOWN master....and the hits just keep COMMING.. ..
I own the 45rpm record. LOVE IT!!!
This is definitely ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN- first picture in the video. I was NO DOUBT there.
All of Bob’s 60’s material needs to be put on a comprehensive legitimate cd and vinyl release in one package—his early stuff is brilliant!!
ebb and flow. time for things to be hip again! let's make the twenties awesome!
yo por que seir viví es ndl
When the cops come they'll be on their side
Because you're everything deep down they wish they could be....
this should be my theme song!;)
People are scared of what they don't understand, or know, is that why there looking back? I keep looking back just because it's installed in me 😡. Nice song Bob .S
Me encanta Bob...
Listening, loving, remembering! All those summertime concerts at Pine Knob with Kelly and the gang!!! Good old DETROIT ROCK N ROLL 💜❣Many thanks to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band😙
I thought i heard everything from him, what a great song
I immediately recognized this photo as the back side of Mongrel, my favorite album in 9th grade. My sister took me to seen him live at Brevard Jr College in Cocoa, Fl earlier in the year. It was my first concert and I became forever hooked on rock n roll. Still remember him singing "Ramblin Gamblin Man" and Leon Russell's "A Song For You" on piano. http://www.segerfile.com/mongrelback.jpg
yes, because i'm free. thanks, glad i can see through all the BS in this world. :D
#LoveLiveRockAndRock {sic} :D
Great song, Live Bullet version even better.
There were two issues of this song years apart.
Love this song!
Bob Seger he's pretty cool met him a few times I grew up in Ann Arbor Michigan that's where Bob Seger comes from I played drums in a band called Salem witchcraft Detroit audiences are the greatest rock and roll audiences in the world like Bob Seger says s*** I've known that for ten years😎✌🌍⭐🍄
I grew up on the northwest side and remember seeing you guys play. Been awhile, memory is foggy. Did Salem Witchcraft ever play the West Side 6 on Telegraph in Detroit?
You guys were pretty good back then too. Saw y’all several times around town
Melba u in Westland
@John Baldwin Yes i am for now thank you for acknowledging us and coming to see us always remember you're never too old to rock and roll😎👍👍👍👍✌✌✌✌
I remember Salem Witchcraft. You guys played around Detroit in the 70s.
Today's music bites
Uncle Bob you are correct again
Great to hear the studio version of this. Thanks.

Glad you like Bob segers. Not many of us left
Yeah. Like every thing. It's about money
not many left, michigans left as is half of florida..
Ya know...you can go and actually buy the album like I did...support the artist
Ah ..... Real Rock & Roll!
Thanks for all these Bob Segar ups. As a Michigan native, and as an audience member that saw him play the majority of these old tunes, live. I want everyone to know that Michigan and it's young people were considered to be the coolest, hippest, hippies there were. Even now, in my sixties, I see long haired, red-eyed, acid washed, genuine hippies everywhere I go. This is our state, and we know the dream lives on! Solidarity ! Like this !
Baber Begone amen! I'm born and raised in Ann arbor, )
if you like this one check out east side story bob seger and the last heard. my 2 favorite bob song
"...because you're different, because you're free, because you're everything deep down they wish they could be..." Right on!
So many great bands played Sherwood Forest during the early 70's Wild Wednesdays and Super Sundays. All the great Michigan bands.
+Frank Boyce Saw Ronnie, Sammy and Bob..... MICHIGAN MONSTER!
+Texasapathy Michigan was the rock and roll capital!!! Never be the same today. But I still rock on, saw them all too! Still go to DTE{Pine Knob}
i have no sound??
@dawn-roxanne michelle i had to reload page odd..
1971 Wild Wednesday, Sherwood Forest and his first performance after coming back from Nam. EPIC...
Lucky ✌

What if we had not only heard, but listened, and then taken action? Is it too late?@MichaelVoss thanks for the lyrics post.
could be!
Bob was a much better singer when he was young , he lost a little FUNK when he got older . love his first songs
i disagree, jis pipes are the same the passion may be different.. the hunger
@greggjohns63 While his entire catalog is amazing, I too have a preference for the edginess of the BS System days up to about the Back in '72 period.
Song is fitting for the violence going on in Ferguson. One day those who destroyed the town will look back and say.....what was I thinking
@Jack Bauer ...for the whole fkd up country of self-entitled victims...
Jack Bauer they don't think
Thanks for Posting this! Its Swesome and I remember it (looking Back) and Heavy Music and 2+2 and Lucy Blues (I owed that early album)

< :Lapeer
Actually this is not a war protest song per say it is more about the times in general civil rights and everything like that his protest song was 2+2
Bob Seger was a oracle .
Wild wednesdays and super sundays awesome concerts noon till midnight.
i love bob seger any and ong, but i cannot find any performance of katmanzoo, he and kid rock also make a great duet.
this is the Bob I love too <3 yay!
Sherwood Forest was an awesome place to hear bands....they have a page on Facebook now....I just liked....
I've been wanting to hear Skip VanWinkle....and I am pretty sure he is playing the organ on this tune....
probably so...his work on the B3 on Hummin' Bird blows me away...
I'm from Davison and I remember those concerts!!! The admittance to these concerts were less than 5 dollars!
I've been feeling like Rip Van Winkle
The best two dollars I ever spent was in 1972 to see Bob Seger at The Armory in Columbus, Mississippi. To this day it's one of the best shows I have ever seen.
Detroit sound babeeee!!
You are so right......I never knock Seger for getting old or commercial or whatever you wanna call it....but his early stuff......not only is it his best, like most bands and musicians.....but it's how true Detroiters fell in love with his early genius. I never want to hear Turn The Page again......just because classic rock stations burned it out long ago....why do they NEVER play his early stuff ??? It's a crime.
He was freaking awesome when I paid $2.50 to see him in concert @ Allen Park Civic Arena, near Ann Arbor, right about a year before he released Beautiful Loser....rocked that little auditorium down!!
Omg! I saw BTO at The Allen Park Civic Arena in 1973 when I was 13! That started something....been to 100’s of concerts since !
The place was Sherwood Forest just north of Davison Mich--had a lot of great bands there-Edgar Winter.Alice Cooper.Mitch Ryder-too many to list-great times!
Awesome.
This song deserves so much more radio play !
great tune...
We are a divisive species. You can witness this yourself.
This is Bob WAY before he went commercial.......not knocking him, but he was truly the SHIT before selling out commercially for radio. GREAT STUFF ! Thanx for sharing !
He didn't sellout, he did it for nine years, he can't help it if The listening public are morons. And I wouldn't call Night moves and live bullet commercial junk.
GOTTA LOVE IT!!!!!!
This pic is from a Park in Davison,MI i think it was called Sherwood or something like that..he bought HIDEAWAY records 4 years ago and regained all of the old demo's and scratch tapes but he will not release them..wish he would.
Occupy movement, it could've been deemed any name for the people's/citizens cause, it takes the masses of f people to contest and challenge and bring to attention a corrupt and deceitful culture, particularly the corporate and government from local, state, international. I see the streets of America and how the veterans of wars return pyschologically traumatized, I see mentally disturbed people by the hundreds litter the streets where tourists witness and elected officials are useless.
@makingsense53 yea I looked up Bill Murray in groundhog day can explain????????
Damn, that's good music.
Haha "CKLW Motor City"
Proverbs 4:18 The light is getting brighter and brighter as the day draws nearer. Going forward is where the answer is. Looking back keeps us stagnate and wrong.
@makingsense53 This and '2+2=?'
@oldjizzy Almost a Levon Helm.
What a killer organ riff, & then there's The Voice....classic!
this is great bob seger! , don't like his silver bullet days at all
Thanks for the video! One of the first 45s I ever bought. ROCK ON
Had'nt heard this original version in many years, great song!
fab song thanks for sharing
Great song. But Bobs songs are that way!
