Bob Dylan - Paths Of Victory Lyrics
Trails of troubles
Roads of battles
Paths of victory
I shall walk
And my road it might be rough
But the better roads are waiting
And boys it ain't far off
Trails of troubles
Roads of battles
Paths of victory
We shall walk
I walked down by the river
I saw that silver linin'
That was hangin' in the sky
Trails of troubles
Roads of battles
Paths of victory
We shall walk
The evenin' dusk was rollin'
I was walking down the track
There was a one-way wind a-blowin'
And it was blowin' at my back
Trails of troubles
Roads of battles
Paths of victory
We shall walk
The gravel road is bumpy
It's a hard road to ride
But there's a clearer road a-waitin'
With the cinders on the side
Trails of troubles
Roads of battles
Paths of victory
We shall walk
That evening train was rollin'
The hummin' of its wheels
My eyes they saw a better day
As I looked across the fields
Trails of troubles
Roads of battles
Paths of victory
We shall walk
The trail is dusty
The road it might be rough
But the good road is a-waitin'
And boys it ain't far off
Trails of troubles
Roads of battles
Paths of victory
We shall walk

This is my favorite Dylan song, and it's just a scrap swept up off the music publisher's office floor. It's heartbreaking now to hear this one - in the same way it hurts to think about the sixties, where we got a fleeting glimpse into a possible American future that was not to be. Surely, the bounty we'd "discovered" in this new half of the planet, governed by our enlightened political experiment, was going to yield an unprecedented paradise for humans on earth. Now, after four decades of concerted clampdown in response to that whiff of a suggestion, it's clear that we'll never even have the usual kind of healthcare system here. Why? Because the men who wrest and wield the mighty Power of Freedom, vested in them by GOD, tend to be ...what? Assholes.
It's one of my favories too, but due to the copyright of the released version I can't upload it. This is just a demo, so it wasn't intended to be perfect. Just Bob and a guitar.
Yeah, the piano version lacks the magic I hear in this demo, and "When the Ship Comes In," which seems a more full-blown rendition of this sentiment, is a less affecting song for me. I think he was, as so often was the case, well past this song by the time interest in it was expressed. The pause towards the end is while he tries to recall the rest of the words, and then at the end he says "That's about all I can remember of that one." Thank you for this post.
Preciosa, me encanta !
