Blue Oyster Cult - In Thee Lyrics

Maybe I'll see you again baby
And maybe I won't
Maybe you've bought your ticket
Gone back to Detroit
Airplanes make strangers of us all
Give us distance
Much too easily.

Jim says some destinies
Should not be delivered
But you and I seen now baby
That still they are
Winning it makes losers of us all
'Cause the dice roll
So indifferently.

[Chorus:]
Well, I'll wrap myself in cities I travel
I'll wrap myself in dreams
I'll wrap myself in solitude
["stranger's arms" for 3rd chorus]
But I wish I could wrap myself
In thee.

Tonight it's hot, without you
Tomorrow'll be cold
Winter will come along
Driven by snow
Love it makes strangers of us all
When we part
Oh so thoughtlessly

[Chorus]

Once we breathed the breath
Of sweet surrender
Pure, pure Arab air filled our
Atmosphere
But pride it makes stars of us all
Until we fall
For everyone to see.

[Chorus 2x]

    Songwriters: ALLEN LANIER

  9. J.... W....

    Should have been a hit.

  10. M.... C....

I wrap myself in solitude, absolute genius.

  11. C.... ....

I had at first not really liked this song because it wasn't like typical heavy blue oyster cult song and I thought it was soft. but bucks solo is great once I really listen more objectively

    C.... ....

It's lighter for sure but has lovely lyrics, vocal & guitar ... it's BOC at the end of the day, it's nearly all good/great ...

  12. S.... ....

Such a soft and lovely tune in both meaning and execution.

  13. D.... S....

Tonight it's hot! Tomorrow it will be cold!

  14. C.... A....

BOC makes me ascend above the blue sphere, riding a wave of brilliance.

  15. r.... s....

I SMELL A GOOD PARTY WHEN I KNOW ONE*

  16. A.... N....

Going 2 c. BOC tomm nite at the Space Theater in Westbury LI Ny

  17. D.... S....

    Bruce, did you write this?

  18. M.... N....

The song is written about my life!

  19. c.... ....

    Awful and embarrassing.
BOC looking to cash in on the Top 40 market.
    Gives me distance.

    c.... ....

Guys like Buck & Joe wanted to write different material to 7 Screaming Dizbusters (listen to their solo stuff) ... this song from Allen is wonderful to me whether it was intended to be commercial or not .... BOC were always a diverse band ... thank goodness.

    c.... ....

You have no idea what you say! Pretty sure by the time this album came out they knew that they'd never be on the Top 40! Guess what? BOC is still alive most of those top 40 bands sucked then and suck now!

  20. D.... S....

Tonight it's hot. Without you tomorrow will be cold!

  21. C.... D....

Just got a 5 inch hook and cross tattooed on my right arm böc forever

    C.... D....

I have been wearing the hook and cross on my left forearm since 1989

    C.... D....

    Right on, Why?

  22. L.... D....

May Allen Lanier Rest In Peace, and may his music live on forever.

  23. S.... ....

I want this played at my funeral lol

  24. S.... ....

"Love,it makes strangers of us all......"

  26. k.... j....

    BOC lyrics rule just listen

  27. D.... S....

    maybe I'll see you again

    D.... S....

    and maybe I won't.....

  28. H.... K....

"Jim says some destinies should not be delivered." -- BOC, "In Thee"

"Some destinies, they should not be delivered." -- Jim Carroll, "Day and Night"

  29. W.... D....

    Buck for God!!

  30. R.... ....

Excellent guitar solo in this song. At first I thought it was a Tele, but I'm thinking its a P90 equipped Gibson of some sort.

    R.... ....

really? Woah.. a guitar sound person! Really? ha! Whatever!

    R.... ....

    Was a Gibson!

    R.... ....

Plays a 1978 Vulcan Ballestra on albums between 1979-81 & you can see him play it for some live Mirrors tracks in 1979 on here .. it looks like a Gibson Explorer ..

    R.... ....

    Racoldgin definitely a Gibson

    R.... ....

    Les Paul studio..black

  31. K.... M....

    Love BOC! \m/ \m/

  32. M.... A....

Probably one of my favorite BOC songs. Masterpiece by Allen.

  33. A.... Z....

    Sounds like a Beatles song

    A.... Z....

Sounds more like the Byrds, actually.

    A.... Z....

Won't get into semantics , was very unlike the usual BOC song list! My little sister is ten years my junior, she grew up listening to BOC, but this one surprised her! She knew BoC! this one blew her away! Mirrors is a special piece of work!

    A.... Z....

@Del Shoemaker Actually, I would posit that Blue Oyster Cult had a lot of songs like this, e.g. Redeemed, Fireworks, Going Through The Motions, Debbie Denise, etc. They embraced not just the "dark" and "heavy", but also "the light" and sensual.

  34. I.... I....

where have i heard this before?

    I.... I....

+127T I84 Well, if you lived near Hungry Mother State Park around 1980, perhaps you attended 1 of the parties my friends and I arranged.

    I.... I....

Well you can be assured that it wasn't the radio!

  35. G.... O....

The Chorus seems like it should say in you instead of in thee, "I wrap myself in solitude but I wish I could wrap myself in *You*" I guess a song called "In You" would give off a different vibe than a love song though

    G.... O....

Also, it rhymes better with dreams

    G.... O....

I always thought he was trying to deify her by using that term. But I get what you are saying.

    G.... O....

What, is in thee too educated for you?

    G.... O....

I disagree, 'In you' lyric/title sounds contrived and dumbed down, BOC were better than that.

    G.... O....

In thee does mean "in you" is just "in thee" sounds more sophisticated than basically saying "in you"

  36. p.... ....

No 2 BOC songs ever sounded alike.

    p.... ....

I agree....except The Red and the Black and On the Lam, which have the exact same lyrics. :/

    p.... ....

+Nick Workman They have 3 songs, I think, that are the same song but in different times XD

    p.... ....

Well, that would make them any hip-hop, or Beyonce, which they aren't, and never were!

    p.... ....

I think that Subhuman from Tyranny and mutation (i think) and Blue Öyster Cult from the Imaginos album have the same lyrics. So they probably sound somewhat alike.
Edit: Subhuman wasnt from Tyranny and Mutation, it was from Secret Treaties

  37. A.... ....

so many lines i would like to repeat here aswell as the way they use/sing them out (sry my loss in english), then add the heartly athmosphere i feel from it/in it/by it.

Ooh now i know you all like to wrap yourself in mee ;) lul

  38. e.... m....

A sad song about Allen's break up with Patti Smith.
RIP Allen Lanier. You were awesome.

    e.... m....

how do you know ist about the break up ?

    e.... m....

    she's a train wreck anyway.

  39. D.... ....

This song makes me sad because of what was happening in my book while this was playing.

  40. J.... ....

Morning comes... A redemption song is needed....this is one of the best redemption songs....

  41. G.... ....

Personally I consider this to be one of their best songs.

    G.... ....

    @It's Me interesting. By 79?
Let me guess, again without checking:
The most obvious choice, Burnin for You, wouldn't have even existed yet.
    Cities on Flame
    (don't fear) The Reaper
    Godzilla
or perhaps the song Mirrors itself?

    G.... ....

@Damien Thorn i meant that they've had 4 songs total hit the top 100 (dont fear the reaper(1976), Burnin for you(1981), shooting sharks(1984), and in thee(1979))
In thee peaked at 74 on 9-29-1979

    G.... ....

@It's Me I love Shooting Shark.
Thanks for the info. to a lazy person like myself.

    G.... ....

    agreed.

    G.... ....

    I can understand why.

  42. B.... K....

God Bless Allen. One of the most touching BOC songs. Very Rumi, and as usual with BOC, secretly intelligent. R.I.P. Allen and thanks for the love and music.

  43. j.... ....

Allen wrote this song...GOD BLESS HIM GREATLY.

  44. t.... ....

    Allen Lanier R.I.P.

  45. v.... b....

    underrated ballads too

  46. v.... b....

it's such as the beatles with hard rock sentimentaly

  47. M.... ....

They haven't played Minneapolis or Minnesota in a few years. Again I hear the Stones are skipping us on their new tour, I am not too happy about all that nonsense! We know how to rock as well as anyone! haha

  48. M.... ....

Maybe put it on Cultosaurus Erectus in 1980? haha I love the song Deadline, and BOC's very understated softrock with their unique lyrics, which when you think about it, aren't EXACTLY theirs! haha

    M.... ....

    Almost the Deadline!

    M.... ....

    Who's are they?

    M.... ....

@Del Shoemaker Most are their own, but they also used lyrics from Patty Smyth, Sandy Pearlman and Michael Moorcock.

  49. D.... B....

One of my favourite songs of one of my favourite bands. BÖC rules!
Gosh, it's so long ago when I didn't listen to anything else than this...

  50. t.... ....

Disagree. I've been in sold-out stadiums with BOC headlining more than a few times. That said, they really do do better in small venues. IMO, of course.

  51. K.... O....

They still tour. I saw them fairly recently. I'm not sure when. I think it was in Tacoma.

  52. T.... ....

I want a love button damn it

  53. s.... ....

how the hell does this awesome song only have 7,000 veiws

  54. u.... ....

Never saw them .. But born in 64 .. I fell for thier tunes while seemingly nobody else did .. Years passed and they became vogue .. I was already there .. I bicycled 25 miles to a store to buy On Your Feet ' I was surprised they had it " and it was It was

  55. T.... S....

I love this one!!! I really need to see these guys live...

  56. C.... ....

    Gold Song!

  57. J.... D....

Tsunami Beach Clus in Sanford, Brassys in Cocoa Beach..Last two times i say this band in the late 80's.. Damn good shows one and all..

  58. D.... t....

@UltimateNation thanks...I thought so....His and my song together was You're not the one I was looking for...that whole album is great...not a bad song in the bunch!

  59. U.... ....

@starrenee Great choice! This is one of the few positive-mood songs by BOC, and it's a great song to close on.

  60. U.... ....

@tranq45 It's true. Listen to Hot Rails to Hell in the studio version and then live. You can really tell a difference.

  61. D.... t....

I played this at my husband's funeral...blue Oyster cult was his fav band, and Mirrors, his fav album. Now they give me comfort!

    D.... t....

Most beautiful thing Ive ever heard

    D.... t....

    Right to the heart Mrs

    D.... t....

My sympathies to you and yours. He must have been a cool dude. If there is "another side" in this crazy life at the end of all days, may you find him there waiting for you.

  62. C.... K....

    Classic essential BOC!!

  63. E.... W....

Classic BOC right here! I did a cover a Buck's solo on this one, go check it if you want : )

  64. B.... I....

Great track!! One of the best from this album, IMHO.

  65. n.... ....

This is a good cruising song. Makes me want to drive.

  66. t.... ....

Old time favorite! Saw this performed live in a small club in Vallejo, CA. No matter how good they are in the studio, this is a band best experienced live!
