Blue Oyster Cult - I Am The One You Warned Me Of Lyrics

Fresh from zones of moisture
And afterwards the meat
With spangles on my long-tailed suits
And songs to haunt the one that's saved

Just call me Desdinova
I'm sure to be
The lucky one
When destiny assigns wisdom
Known to me
The starry wisdom

I am the one you warned me of
I am the one who'd never, never lie

The writing in the notebook
Notation from the stars
Songs by Desdinova
And frost warnings from the women's farm
Whose agents could not ever see
His hilly eyes and too green rings
Obscured sight and fancy dreams
Holy mass, those 13 fancy dreams

I am the one you warned me of
I am the one who'd never, never lie

Eyes like bottles and hands in my hair
Bottles of blackness the blacker the spare
I'll sit myself behind that clock
And play tunes on its belfry

Five fingers have I to play them like ten
Ten fingers have I to play them again
In decimal chains whose mimic cry
Whose notes will never, never fly
Until they quit those timely tunes
And entered that system from outside

I am the one you warned me of
I am the one who'd never, never lie

Blue Oyster Cult I Am The One You Warned Me Of Comments
  1. T.... T....

I know this album gets a mixed reception, but I'll just come out and say it - It's my favorite BOC album ever. Much more a heavy metal album than anything that came before.

  2. J.... H....

    Fantastic Band! Love the song!

  3. M.... G....

I must admit I absolutely loved this from the first listening! The story behind just how it came into being is a great read. I realise it's not wholly BOC but personally, I think this album is certainly in my top twenty albums of all time!

  4. T.... T....

Why is this album so underrated. A brief "one last hurrah" for the classic lineup, and the heaviest hardest rocking they ever did.

Hell, I have no reservations in saying it. This is my favorite BOC record!

  5. .... ....

the song explodes at 2:13. right in your face tearing through your grill.

  6. m.... b....

My guitar solos are at 2:46 and 4:23...... Joe and I shared the rhythms on this song and the lead guitar ditties in between vocals I believe were played by Joe and someone else.

  7. V.... ....

My favorite album of theirs! :D

  8. A.... ....

    Desdinova... Huh...
    Desdinova...
    DESTY NOVA!

  9. m.... c....

toujours aussi génial cet album...sombre et mélodique....mais aurait mérité un bien meilleur son, car trop étouffé ici.....avec un son un peu plus clair ce serait le meilleur album du groupe de mon point de vue

  10. m.... ....

    it's John Rogers singing?

    m.... ....

    Eric's lead vocal ....

    m.... ....

ohhh. and John Rogers doing the backing vocals right? thanks for the information!

  13. S.... ....

2:12 That Riff gives me a boner

I wonder what this song sounds like at a stadium with the highest possible amplification on the face of Earth.

  15. r.... s....

I thought you wer'e a joke but you are not*

  16. B.... J....

the pure rock masterpiece. Among the best in Rock music history.

  17. d.... h....

Pure masterpiece. Song out of time and space. BOC genious!

  20. D.... K....

when all is gone...what is left... me.... .

  21. k.... u....

Albert Bouchard and Sandy Pearlman wrote the lyrics and music for Imaginos. The Bouchard brothers did not play on this release. Would have been great if BOC and the Bouchards would have buried the hatchet for this album! This could have been BOC's version of "The Wall" if Albert and Joe were involved with the recording in my opinion

    k.... u....

kevin u this is all Al dude. He recorded all the demo tracks himself with the guys he brought in to do it. It was then taken to the label who refused to release as an Albert solo record, Sandy P then went behind ALs back and sold it to the company who then brought in Eric and Donald to record over ALs vocals, slapped the BOC moniker on it and released it.

  22. J.... O....

IMAGINOS... the very essence of Blue Oyster Cult!
Dark. Mysterious. Cerebral. If only we could be so fortunate to have the late, great Sandy Pearlman's original manuscripts to enjoy.

    J.... O....

Just remember that Albert Bouchard worked the closest with Sandy Pearlman to produce the demo tape for the Imaginos album, and he is still alive, and he has a YouTube account. Listen closely to the song, do you know what is meant by "...those thirteen fancy dreams...."? Answer is that there was 13 songs from the demo tape. Sadly they were unwisely counseled to remove four of the songs in order to publish it!

  23. V.... S....

A goddamn epic album, despite all the drama and development hell surrounding it.

  24. B.... J....

The riff at 2:13 is probably one of the best in the whole rock history.

  25. m.... b....

Ok all you119,799 Cultists of the Blue Oyster! I am the One they warned you of The guitar soloist in the middle and end on this track!Marc Biedermann from Bay Area Heavy Metal band BLIND ILLUSION. Not only did we form in 1978 but we were quite possibly the first PROGRESSIVE METAL band! Another feather in our cap is the fact that Les Claypool from PRIMUS learned to play bass after joining BLIND ILLUSION.Yes I taught him his basics and instilled proper musical conduct in regards to perfectionism.Check out The Sane Asylum from Blind Illusion the remastered version on WORLD IN SOUND records in Germany.Coming soon will be the long awaited follow up to the first lp./discit is ....MEDICINE SHOW...........Espionage in Hell. It is the same line up that appeared on The Sane Asylum.Final notes, 2/3 of Primus were then 1/2 of Blind Illusion.

Good job...thank you for posting the lyrics, people should get a chance to reflect

    K.... C....

I think "I am the one you warned me of...." should be followed by "I am the one you never ever liked" (over who'd never ever lie)"; or at least incorporate both.

  27. B.... I....

    That riff though.

  28. R.... C....

9 people who disliked votes for trump

    E.... B....

@Kevin W. All this talk about having innercourse with Trump. Guess we know what's on your mind- old man's genitals. I don't recall propping up Hitler with anything I said. But hey, if that's on your mind too just get it out online in your safe place, ya twit.

    E.... B....

And we have an asshat who wants to bring their own political views into a forum about music...My day is complete. Piss off, you loser!

    E.... B....

There is always one of them.

    E.... B....

    That doesn't even make sense...
Trump voters dislike BOC? In what mad universe do you live? and please stay there... spare you your sickness!

    E.... B....

i am one of the biggest BOC fans on the planet. and i voted for trump. dwell on this as you also remember that BOC is the thinking mans band.

  32. P.... ....

This was the 1st CD I ever owned. I saw it on sale at a 2nd hand store and bought it. I had the album at home but just couldn't bare to see this amazing album sitting and maybe get picked up by someone who wasn't a fan or appreciative of Blue Oyster Cult. It wasn't for another year that I actually bought a CD player LOL

  33. C.... B....

I only wish they had recorded this song better with better mixing. The drums are totally muted and everything seems mixed at about the same level, somewhat recessed. This song should kick ass more than it does! The guitar riffs are great!

    C.... B....

I would love to hear this whole album remastered.

  34. I.... P....

    RIP Sandy Pearlman

    I.... P....

We just lost Sandy today. Did you learn of his passing in the news so soon?

    I.... P....

A link to the website Ultimate Classic Rock, which had news of Sandy's passing, appeared on my FaceBook page yesterday. Just shows the speed of social media these days.

    I.... P....

ah shit. Feel I should have heard of this sooner.

  35. D.... ....

I Am....the one you warn me of!

  36. S.... ....

A great song (and an even greater riff) but does anyone know what this song is about?

    S.... ....

Left to die by two good friends      abandoned me and put to sleep      left to die by two good friends      tears of God flow as I bleed          a walk-in in process?

    S.... ....

The entire Imaginos album is one long rock-opera that could of been a great sound track to a very dark movie. If you listen to the entire album and read the liner notes it tells a story of absolute evil and corruption.

    S.... ....

I think Desdenova is a "she".

    S.... ....

There's a guy who knows the meaning of the lyrics, but he cries out in his sleep.

    S.... ....

The one behind the revenge in a mirror.

  37. R.... ....

One of the great albums many 80's rock fans never heard of

    R.... ....

May I ask how you categorize it

    R.... ....

Well heavy metal is of course heavier than hard rock and it is a sometimes faster. For sure it is more technically demanding and has of corse longer solos. I say BÖC is in between because the are pretty heavy for a hard rock band. If you want to compare hard rock and heavy metal, some good old school heavy metal bands are Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden. They really aren't what you would think metal is (a bunch of untalented knuckleheads that like to make noise)

    R.... ....

The thinking man's metal band as many critics have labeled them.Rock on bro

    R.... ....

Imaginos is definitely the album of BOC which is closer to what we call heavy metal

    R.... ....

    @George Zoorob Jr nerd metal

  38. G.... G....

    Epicest

  39. m.... b....

Oh come on people now I can't remember for sure but that is Eric Bloom on vocals!

    m.... b....

+mark biedermann whoa, are you the same Mark Biedermann who played on this song?  Wikipedia says you played the solo.  You should make a tutorial on how to play that, it's so cool.  What sort of amplifiers and effects were being used on this recording?  the guitar tone is heavy man.

    m.... b....

All right !!! First off I was still a boogie man. I believe it was a Mesa Boogie Mark 2.The guitar was donated for the session by Larry Lalonde (the supporting lead guitarist along with me in Blind "L"short for Blind Illusion twas his Fender pre CBS Blonde Stratocaster!!! I also played rhythm as did Satriani. Those little lead ditties in the intro and fist verse/chorus don't quote me but I think I remember Sandy telling me that it was Jack Secret or Jack Rigg or both!!! I played the middle "chimes sounding solo ode to Buck!!!! and the solo at the end.I lifted the intro somewhat from one of the aforementioned players. These particular sessions were grueling!!!

  40. W.... G....

    just awesome.!!! great ,

  41. C.... ....

"Imaginos" is one of the best rock albums ever made.

  42. D.... C....

Donald's voice was the reason the record company put this first on the album track. there's math for you to do.

    D.... C....

+Dan C Lead singing Jon Rogers in this track.

    D.... C....

+Lukas Fin Really? Jon was singing here? I could have sworn it was Eric...

  44. O.... B....

This is one of those albums that the suites at the record company helped to screw up. We should be thankful it ever got made. By the way, "I am the one you warned me of."

  47. K.... L....

Fuck yeah, my favourite album by BOC!!

  48. A.... K....

The most Musically sound band behind Kansas. The Blue Oyster Cult can play Hard rock Classical, contemporary, country or Blues. We were sad end at the demise & Death of Alan Lanier. I probably spelled it wrong, but I met the whole Band with my Dear friend Billiam Robarge who also has passed.loved the Guys. Hope I get one more chance. Your fan & friend Alan H Keyser

    Thing2> who's ghost?

Thing1> A bunch of ringers from metal bands playing in the BOC style

Thing1> They all have robes and call themselves "nameless ghouls" and the singer is a skull pope

Thing2> hahaha you gotta be fucking kidding me

Thing1> They look black metal and play stuff like this, vocal harmonies

    Thing1> What a name for a song

Thing2> The vox are full of personality, there should be a track just for his sneer

Thing1> This record is brimming with cool production, I guess Satriani played on it?

    Thing2> No kidding? Nice

Thing2> There is nothing to this guitar line and it works great

Thing2> The overproduced waterfall of guitar shred shouldn't work but it does

Thing2> yeah this is fun, I usually have more to say about the drumming, but it just does its thing, HAVE SOME SINGLE STROKE ROLLS

Thing1> The drums show off at the end

    S.... A....

    +Setec Astronomy I... What?

    Y.... N....

    @Roddy Carnell
I know the GHOST dudes, and yeah, they do (or rather "he" does) When everyone was calling them the new MERCYFUL FATE at first, I always said "No...it's BOC"

  54. B.... H....

    Agreed, simply...........BAD ASS!

  55. C.... R....

I AM A CLOSE PERSONAL FRIEND OF MARK BIEDERMANNS AND HE NEVER SHUTS UP ABOUT HOW MUCH HE LOVES BOC AND HE CREDITS PEARLMAN AND MANDL AS HIS ENGINEERING AND PRODUCTION SKILLS MENTORS AS WELL AS THE GREAT ENGINEER/PRODUCER MARK NEEDHAM

  59. L.... K....

There is no such thing as a bad Blue Oyster Cult song

    L.... K....

@Sophie the robot .....yeah people gonna argue...it's what we do as humans.
I'm going to agree on just ONE of your selections because it's at the exact position I would put it in...number one.
The rest are debatable because it's opinion...our opinions just happen to match up for that.

    L.... K....

Yes there is. Beat 'Em Up. Veins. Mirrors. They're one of my favorite bands but they made a few bad ones.

Luckily most of their catalog is incredibly good, so they could spare a clunker or two.

    L.... K....

That said, ETI is a great song, the dude that hates it is nuts. Haha.

    L.... K....

Cagey Cretins, Hungry Boys, Don´t Turn Your Back and personally I really don't like Mirrors (the song)

    L.... K....

@Tom Martell hey, Mirrors isn't half bad, even if I don't believe in the existence of actual "sin", as in the Mirror's lyrics: "vanity".

  60. T.... ....

One of their best albums, yet at the same time one of their most overlooked.

  61. H.... K....

"IMAGINOS" was intended as the 4th studio album... or possibly the next 3 whole albums... before they decided to start doing things differently. After Albert got kicked out for missing some shows in '82, he began working on it as a solo project with his own band. Much of the work on the album was Albert's band! BOC "reconciled" with him to make it a "BOC" album... then, after, told him, NOPE, he wasn't being let back in the band. (Rotten thing to do.)

  62. H.... K....

I got this on LP when it came out. Only ever saw one copy. Very strange. There was some kind of bizarre problem with the sound mix. The volume started out way too low... and over the course of Side 1 got louder and louder. What kind of drugs was someone taking when they put the thing together?

Some years later, I got the CD.  NO PROBLEM. Nice when they fix things like that.

I did a custom comp of BOC songs from 1983-up, and included 3 songs from this album on it-- including this one, which, of course, had to be track 1!

    H.... K....

Strange, I had the vinyl and it didn't have that problem. It was the blue vinyl version I had.

  63. b.... ....

the complete columbia albums collection which was released this month has remasters of this album...i haven't heard it yet

  64. S.... P....

    superb,thanks for uploading!

  85. A.... S....

@thefoppa1000 - I can't really agree with you. I think "Heaven Forbid" and especially "The Curse of the Hidden Mirror" are too really good album. The later one I would even dare call great :)

  88. h.... ....

Its such a shame that, even though one actually exists, it's impossible to scrape up the imaginos CD.
The world is really missing out on something.

  89. M.... ....

These guys won't run out of talent until they die.

  90. b.... ....

    @bstensland

I never cared much for Tattoo Umpire(hehe).Love Celestial The Queen another Joe B Who type song.

  91. b.... ....

Does the new version have a better sound? this was done really well, but some stuff got buried at the wrong times:)

  92. b.... ....

@beefoneeto Nooooo lol, tell me you'd listen to Tattoo Vampire over Celestial the Queen?:O both good songs tho.

  93. b.... ....

@teachmike2000 no, no sir, I dare not:)

  94. H.... &....

Desdinova is mentioned in this song and Astronomy, I think Desdinova is a star on the other hand Desdemona is a demon, so it's demons star, I think. Blue oyster cult is the band who gave some mystery to Rock. It's definitely my favorite band, but not many people know of this band, which is weird. Cause this band is divine. Every song is divine, and lyrics are woooooooow.
