Blondie - Backfired Lyrics
Backfired
Your plan, your plan backfired
Backfired
My man, your plan backfired in your face
Your diplomatic drag depressed me
The glitter in your eyes undressed me
You were polished slick
Really thick
Wasting time dropping lines like
"I could get you into movies"
But we wound up at Hot Jo's for hamburgers to go
Backfired
Backfired
My man, your plan backfired in your face
To steal my mind was your objective
The way you spoke was too aggressive
The silly jokes were not impressive
Like "A travelling salesman met a farmer with three daughters", yet
All the quips were so suggestive
Then we ran down to Hot Jo's for hamburgers to go
Backfired
Your plan backfired
Backfired
My man, your plan backfired in your face
Well, come here my little dear, I've got what it takes
Give me just what I want and I'll give you a break
Well, don't slip on your lips cause you're talking so fast
Buying for first, crying for last
Well come on my little lady, don't shoot me down
I've got strong connections all over town
Just drop to a dead stop (what?)
Backfired
Your plan backfired
Backfired
My man, your plan backfired in your face
You were polished slick. Really thick
Wasting time dropping lines
Backfired
"A travelling salesman met a farmer with three daughters", yet
Backfired
Backfired
Your plan backfired
Couldn't work out no
Backfired
My man, your plan
Backfired in your face
It backfired
Backfired
Your plan just backfired
Oh no, it couldn't work out, backfired
Better get a new line and try it again
Slick performance on demand
Backfired
You better back up fast and head out west
You may still collect
Backfired
It backfired
Your plan backfired
Too bad
Backfired
My man, your plan backfired
Well, come here my little dear, I've got what it takes
Give me just what I want and I'll give you a break
Well, don't slip on your lips cause you're talking so fast
Buying for first, crying for last
Well come on my little lady, don't shoot me down
I've got strong connections all over town
Just drop to a dead stop

Blondie Backfired Comments
That's exactly what this release did, backfired!.
I loooove KooKoo! 🖤
She killed Blondie for nearly years with this
Peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981. A really underrated and kinda cool tune. I like this one!
Love HR Giger but I’ve never felt his imagery went with Debbies music. But kudos to her for having the $$ to hire him.
I was thinking the same ...
Now I Know You Know is a bit better in that respect than this one I think. Not much...but better.
“The we ran down to Ho Jo’s for hamburgers to go!” Love that line 😆
Best Debbie Harry LP !
Backing vocals were provided by Mark Mothersbaugh & Gerald Casale(Devo) credited as Spud & Pud Devo(for this album). Love this song. Cheers!
довольно позорно
They achieved that effect using black, as opposed to a blue or green screen.
What color was Giger's face painted? 🤔😳😳😳
He was wearing a metal mask. More info and pictures here:
https://dangerousminds.net/comments/h.r._giger_body_paints_debbie_harry_for_album_cover_and_video_behind_the_sc
It's interesting rather than good.
Mike Depends on how you come to it. I like the song. But visually, not so much. Debbie in the end is a rock chick, her dancing won’t look right.
Jesus Christ she is a terrible dancer haha
I've read that making a music video can cost up to a million bucks. If they spent more than a couple thousand to make this, there was some serious skimming off the top.
When people try to do shady stuff and it backfired
at the time if they had been less fuss about koo koo's artwork album sleeve people should have taken time to have listened to the songs on it a good solid body of work and backfired should have way bigger it was produced by chic after all !!.
Even by 1981 standards this video is so low budget, it's jarring
my shit in the day
This song here was rarely played on the airwaves. It's a smash.
Big mistake...
this Song is LIT 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
i love debbie but this sucks lol
I really liked this album. Blondie fans wanted a more rock direction but she went with Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers (Chic). The video well...
She should spit the gum out of her mouth before she sings.
foxx733 Or spit yours before you comment. Whatever you got in there.
I don't recall any other video where only some of the the lines are lip-synched. Very interesting.
Awful. I love Blondie. Poppy pop. That's what's she's best at. The alien image mmmmmm. Strange
a wasted opportunity. Not strong enough. The Chic producer and Giger doesn't match. She looks like she doesn't want to be there. Very low budget looking even for the time. Should have tried much harder if she wanted commercial success and airplay.
COCAINE !!!! COCAINE !!!!!
Seems to me that the HR Giger designs did not fit the song I think HR Giger was meant more for either metal or progressive rock, maybe hard psychedelic Rock.
This whole album was just so good.
,, disgusting
Good lord is this song terrible. And I never noticed till now that her head is completely disproportionate to her little boy body creepy!
Embarrassingly bad. I'm surprised how amateur this looks & sounds for such a seasoned star such as Deborah Harry.
all im hearing is symphony of destruction....at the intro
with a littel imagination is it jamiroquia :D
This is what the sleeping Engineer should've sung when he woke up and started swatting Weyland, David et al.
Not a good song
This song was ahead of its time!
Debbie SO FAR in front of Madonna Lady Gaga Beyonce Ryhanna etc... SHE ROCKS SEXY AND BEAUTIFUL
0:06-0:39 The opening of the song sound like it come from Power Rangers when something happening
What was she thinking . This is awful
Well made and Madonna said I must work with Nile Rodgers. Haters are gonna hate. Shake 'em off.
It's been well documented that Madonna said she was a huge fan of Chic and Bowie's Let's Dance album, hence why she approached Nile Rogers. No one heard this album. Don't make shit up
Recuerdo esto cuando salió, no se antojaba comprarlo, ahora que lo esucho me doy cuenta que tenia razón. Mil veces mejor Blondie.
Moloko's "Bring It Back" is kind of like dhis.
What a useless video for a boring song. 4 minutes of total boredom
it seriously needs to be covered by, Roisin Murphy!!!
It did.
Sounds like generic crap to me.
Backfired? Commercially speaking, it did precisely that!
Chrysalis wanted to keep the Blondie franchise going. Also the covers was problematic. Too gory.
How about the production? The record sounds awfully flat like some of the worst, later 80s pop productions. I guess this was the style they aimed for... Debbies voice annoys me here, something which never happens with Blondie recordings. Hm...
Koo Koo is the solo album I have played the most of hers, since it came out in 1981.
This looks like a Suzy Ormand workout video from the 80"s.
This could easily be called Rapture, Pt. 2.
lurch321 nooooo dont insult Rapture like that lol.
Hojos got his back (side) fired. Was he the dark apostle ("Do The Dark" - Blondie) - doing the sidewalk shuffle - doing the invisible dance, in the fire, fire, fire, fire? Did his 99 red balloons also get his back (side) fired?
I thought this was Chrome, that should have been a single
The intro was from chrome I think
This song is very cool
great video, great song, great art, great artists involved.... and Debbie has a great pair of dead eyes (must have been that apathetic 'I don't wanna be here, doing this' attitude that looked cool in the 80's)
That's H.R. Giger
Did he rap on many other albums?
hes just miming lol
Nile Rodgers is the voice.
and an awesome debut song that was.
+Pasquale Davino it was Debborah Harry's debut single from her first solo album after her career with Blondie in Australia.
+Pasquale Davino yes the album did not do very well.
In hindsight, Koo Koo is really a great LP.
This song just popped into my head and I decided to watch the video. Such an underrated gem nile Rodgers production is fantastic
@Mumford ManI agree. Especially this song. Very underrated. What about The Hunter album?
loooooooooooool song!!! hahaha so pop shitty pop
Debbie’s first 2 Solo albums “Koo Koo” and “Rockbird” are criminally underrated
This is what awaits Shaw and David on the Engineers home world.
Eric Miller hahhaha, it could have been so good!
Who is the guitar player on this song?
+Павел Дмитриев Nile Rodgers from Chic (remember "Le Freak" 1979) ? He produced the track and plays the guitar too.
Thank you! This guitar part is very funky, I like it a lot. Sad that there's no tabs for this song.
Debbie looks better with dark hair. She said "sex sells", boy was she right. I would buy anything with Debbie Harry on the cover. Still a beautiful woman today after all those years.
This is Hillary Clinton's favorite video about Jeb Bush....... :)
Miss you HansRuedi
I really love the song, the rythm, the bass line and of course Debbie's voice but the video is horrible!
"well come on my little lady don't shoot me down I got strong connections all over town'. Duhoiiii!!!!!
loooooooooooool song!!! hahaha so pop shitty pop
this song kind of sucks
hahaha!!
It does and it doesn’t
Better than Cardi B crap
Simon Templer this song is lit
I think Napolean Dynamite was modeled after this video.
This is not one of their better efforts, nevertheless, Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The sad thing about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is that there are far too many talented artists who deserve to be in it more than the ones already there.
Sometimes I like some of the songs on this album, but for a collaburation between members of Chic, Blondie, and Devo I expected to be blown away. Still, I like some of the songs
H.R. Giger looks like Andy Warhol in this video!!
ahauahuaauaa
loooooooooooool song!!! hahaha so pop shitty pop
SUPERΔRTIFICIΔL you mean a tremendous song
love her-hated this song and as a 7 year old when it came out, that guy with the gold mask scared me .still hate this....u listen to briteside ,magical, then this?I love Debbie Harry, always have.
Love "Briteside" but that was much later.
This video could have been so much better. I still love the song and the album is one of my favorite Debbie solo's.
@Andrew McMeekin thanks for proving my point. "Over my head" and "its raining men" both were released after "backfired" . "Head" was released in 83, "men" was released late 82. At that time many music videos had shoestring budgets, if any at all. Unless you were a huge pop star like a Michael Jackson, stevie Nick's, or Donna summer. In 81
Debbie harry was embarking on a solo career, and her record company wasnt about to invest a huge budget for a music video. Even though she was successful as "blondie", it wasnt yet established she could sustain a successful solo career. MTV debuted in 1981 around the same time backfired was released. So it wasnt yet known if mtv was going to be a force to reckon with. JEEZUS...Learn your music history
@Andrew McMeekin and btw, " raining men" and "over my head" as videos were quite cheesy
@Andrew McMeekin actually, your the one missing the point. Again for the umpteenth time, this was 1981, your comparing a video made in 81, to the high tech hi budgeted vidoes of the years since, you cant do that. You have to put this in its proper perspective. This video was actually quiet innovative for 81....I hate having to explain history to millennials, they think the world didnt exist before they were born
@Andrew McMeekin I'd bet the ranch you were born between 1981 and 1996. Your comments REEK of a millennial. I doubt your generation x... If u are, your pretty Ignorant
@Andrew McMeekinI rest my case.......so what year were u born?
When I think of music accompanying HR Gigers work I think the absolute dead last thing that comes to mind is anything Debbie Harry did...
@DoughboyJonesmk2 ..Haha, you said it. XD
He loved Jazz actually lol
RIP Giger !
This song reminds me of a job I had in the summer of 1981 walking from door to door trying to persuade the local population that their carpets needed cleaning with a brand new steam injection method. Now there's a plan that backfired - the job, in fact, just dropped, to a dead - stop.
pure legend
rip, HR Giger
A classic work between artists....
Holy shit... IS THAT GIGER?!
H.R. Giger R.I.P
R.I.P. H.R. Giger
in my opinion, Debbie lost it when he abandoned new wave and punk-pop for commercial dance/pop and urban
One of the most ill fitting song/visual combinations ever. 'Now I know you know' was the better of their collaborations, but still the music and the visuals are a bit yuck. I like Giger and Debbie Harry individually, but combined, It's a bit like taking Oysters and mixing them with Vanilla Bean ice cream.
Oodlepoodle Puke What's the matter with oysters and Vanilla Bean ice cream? I eat it every day. 😛
Sounds exactly like "I've Got Protection" from Chic's Real People album...ijs
something tells me that this video was part of a Koo Koo dvd.
that's a bad acid trip
debbie has the right idea with this guy. he poked knives into a mummy.
In this video Debbie was NOT "Blondie." Instead, she fell back to bein' a brunette!
this was 1981 it was all very innovating and primitive. it was shot at his studio in his house in Switzerland. The other video they shot was better. Although if she had just lip synced the whole song and not just parts it would be a little better.
fantastic tangent!
This video's concept definitely lived up to its title.
This is horrifying.
This is what Daft Punk listened to when they were growing up. Debbie RulZ!
Would have been album with Fripp and Eno <.<
The Art of H.R. Giger = Amazing
The Music of Deborah Harry = Amazing
The two of them together in a music video = Meh...
It's not necessarily because it's a bad video. It's more like because they don't do very much, and this song doesn't quite go with Giger's art in my opinion. I'll give it kudos, however, for being different and original.
Classic video. Love it!!! cuttig edge stuff. Rodger's chattering guitar makes any tune...
She's just poorly chroma-keyed over Giger's background artwork. I realize it's intentional in places, but "genius" is a stretch in my opinion. Love the song though.
this is probably my favorite music video ever, 100% awesome. My 2nd favorite video is Blondie - The Tide is High. also classic!!!
Nah, Love Roller coaster is a cover version of an Ohio Players track: watch?v=sR9CRxY9Ne0
so awesome
This is avant garde and different. To anyone that doesn't like it, I'm sure Rodgers and Giger and Debbie Harry would like to see what you have to contribute to make it 'better'.
Talking from experience obviously.
