Blackmore's Night - Wind In The Willows Lyrics

As I went a walking
One morning in spring
I met with some travelers
On an old country lane
One was an old man
The second a maid
The third was a young boy who smiled as he said

"With the wind in the willows
The birds in the sky
There's a bright sun to warm us wherever we lie...
We have bread and fishes and a jug of red wine
To share on our journey with all of mankind".

So I asked them to tell me their name and their race
So I could remember each smile on their face
"Our name, they mean nothing...
They change throughout time
So come sit beside us and share in our wine"

So I sat down beside them
With flowers all around
We et from a mantle
Spread out on the ground
They told me of prophets
And peoples and kings
And all of the one god that knows everything
"We're traveling to Glaston
Over England's gren lanes
To hear of men's troubles
To hear of their pains
We travel the wide world
Over land and the sea
To tell all the people
How they can be free..."

So sadly I left them
On that old country lane
For I knew that I'd never see them again
One was an old man
The second a maid
The third was a young boy who smiled as he said...

Man I need to find an instrumental of this so I can cover it! Such a good song.

  2. T.... ....

Not as good as Spuds version. Here's my alternative version.
As I went a walkin' down an auld country lane
I peeked through a hedgegap - and I saw them again
T'was the third time I saw them in the last twenty days
Them two gypsies bonkin' - sheltered by the suns rays

The males large, white bottom was plain to be seen
As he panted and grunted whilst mounting his queen
I let out a loud roar - and ran back up the lane
'Cos I never, ever wanted to see them again.

    Игорь Иртеньев
    * * *

    Меня зовут Иван Иваныч.
    Мне девяносто восемь лет.

    Umm...

    Hail the Horned God?

    J.... A....

    It says the ONE God.

    J.... A....

    @railenthusiast88
I know not of what god you speak.

    J.... A....

The God who revealed himself through the Bible. I agree on the video that it differs from the original lyrics of Bread & Fishes which is more a folk song than a hymn.

  25. A.... S....

Check out the incredible live version on the Blackmore's Night DVD Castles & Dreams. This studio version pales in comparison (in my opinion).

  26. D.... W....

    I agree TheKendoSensei.....
never tire of hearing this song...full of hope

  27. j.... s....

The song is actually called Bread and Fishes, and was written by Alan Bell.

    j.... s....

And no one do it as well as The Taverners did.

    j.... s....

My late dad knew Alan Bell and the Taverners quite well. First concert I ever saw in a Church Hall in Poulton Le-fylde. This, Lizzie Lindsey, Windmills and Sambos Song always stood out. Me and my Mate used to do a Status Quo type rendition of Windmills.

Replying to PatrickCervantez, the song was written by folk composer/singer Alan Bell, from Lancashire. He has run the Fylde Folk Festival for many years. This enchanting song has been recorded by many, including the (Ripley) Wayfarers and (maybe the best interpretation) by the McCalmans, who had the wisdom and courtesy to retain Alan's original words. It's a reference to the legendary visit to Glastonbury by Joseph, Mary and Jesus. Christ never came to Glastonbury, instead, He ascended to heaven

  38. P.... ....

Does anyone know who originally recorded the song? I checked Wikipedia and the song is credited to a songwriters Anew Bell/Piell. I tried checking up on them but all I got was another Wikipedia page of some pop-punk/new wave DJ from England, and another guy who's a folk-rock singer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
