Blackmore's Night - Moonlight Shadow Lyrics

Star dust glowing in the silvery night
Far away on the other side
Will you come to talk to me this night?
She couldn't find how to push through

The last that ever she saw him
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
He passed on worried and warning
Carried away by a moonlight shadow

Lost in a riddle that Saturday night
Far away on the other side
He was caught in the middle of a desperate fight
And she couldn't find how to push through

I stay, I pray
See you in heaven far away
I stay, I pray
See you in heaven far away

The trees that whisper in the evening
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
Sing a song of sorrow and grieving
Carried away by a moonlight shadow

All she saw was a silhouette of a gun
Far away on the other side
He was shot six times by a man on the run
And she couldn't find how to push through

I stay, I pray
See you in heaven far away
I stay, I pray
See you in heaven one day

It was four a.m. in the morning
Carried away by a moonlight shadow
I watched your vision forming
Carried away by a moonlight shadow

Star dust glowing in the silvery night
Far away on the other side
Will you come to talk to me this night?
She couldn't find how to push through

I stay, I pray
See you in heaven far away
I stay, I pray
See you in heaven one day
See you in heaven one day

Star dust glowing in the silvery night
The night was heavy and the air was alive
Moonlight shadow
Star are glowing in the silvery night

Blackmore's Night Moonlight Shadow Comments
  1. D.... ....

I`m so sorry to have to say it but the timing is all wrong for this song. Its my favourite song and, having heard many different versions,it should flow beautifully but this is more jerky, like a series of stops and starts and doesnt do it justice at all.

  2. K.... V....

    better than the original

  3. v.... R....

I always thought Candice sounded like Maggie Riley for years.

  4. P.... ....

    Dave Angel Eco Warrior :)

  5. S.... ....

I love this band and their stuff always sings to me. I guess there is always exceptions to prove a rule. This one left me cold. Not to my tastes at all. The original is just fucking mesmerising and utterly otherworldly. As with to France. It actually pains my soul to say this but sorry BMN. Not a fan this time.

  6. R.... S....

    WONDERFUL :D

  7. T.... D....

I hadn't heard the original version till now but do very much appreciate both Mike Oldfield's and Blackmore's Night's. Both beautiful voices and guitar work.

  8. B.... G....

    Nein....dann doch lieber Oldfield.

  9. M.... M....

Why is everyone whining about the fact that it's a cover? I personally like it, but almost everyone in the comments are acting like a bunch of pissbabies, saying that Candice ruined Ritchie, that the cover was unnessecary.

  10. M.... G....

This is the version of " Moonlight Shadow" that I liked the most

  11. A.... S....

Love it, Love everything of Ritchie and Candice

  12. G.... C....

Très belle version de Mike Oldfield ! Great Cover !!

  13. D.... C....

This is a great version of Mikes song, she sounds awesome!! Love it!!

  14. Z.... ....

It's always such a pleasure to hear how two talented stars complement one another. It shines through in every song they make together! Candice has one of the best singing voices out there :)

  15. E.... ....

Blackmore is a bad ass.. His old Lady is fine and hes very talented.. Anybody who says anything bad about this man is a candy ass loser.

  16. K.... K....

    bullshit if honestly

  17. R.... ....

Thtas all, but not official or original

  18. K.... ....

원곡 좀 그만 망쳤으면. 부르고 싶으면 노래방 가서 혼자 부르거나.

  19. M.... H....

    Splendid theme........

  20. l.... ....

While I obviously prefer Ritchie in Rainbow or Deep Purple I actually do like Blackmores Night. My only real problem with them is that, imo, they do far too many covers instead of original work.

  21. A.... B....

    Well, that's still good...

  22. v.... 1....

It is beyond the original! It is beyond the original!

  23. a.... ....

I had never heard either version of this song. After comparing both versions, I actually prefer this to the original. I can see why the original is a classic and should not be touched, but I actually like this version.

  24. a.... R....

    Bravísimo el maestro Blackmore.
    Música magistral del segundo milenio.
    God bless the maestro...!!!

  25. A.... M....

    Nonononononono-
    ''you can't touch this''
that's mike oldfield's song and if you cover it, do it right. this is a disgrace .

  26. C.... H....

Can't help it. I just plain love everything these folks do!!! Sure wish they'd tour close to Phoenix some time.

  27. M.... C....

omg, better than original, love candice, love this song omg omg omg

  28. J.... M....

Probably the weakest song on the new album. It's ok in itself but not much different to the Original which I like
.Shadow of the Moon from the First Album is So Much Better, and was said to be influenced by this song when it was first released so I suppose it's an obvious choice to cover, and maybe a nod to Mike Oldfield for the Inspiration. Not a bad track, but Maybe not really necessary as others have said. Would have made a nice bonus track maybe!

  29. T.... ....

    Awesome version.
Candice = best female singer ever!!

  30. A.... M....

if you are going to bash ritchie and candice for doing this cover, then you should talk to mike as well because they could not have done it without his permission, that said.

they have done a pretty good version of the song.

i have also heard the wizard of oz version and the woods of infinity virsion, so go take a listen

    A.... M....

+Anya McDonald no, they have not .

  31. p.... r....

Nothing new. Many thanks to you, Mike Oldfield.

  32. V.... R....

    new Album

  33. S.... M....

Nice interpretation. For a album filler it's ok. But I never understand why they do so many covers. At older ages creativity becomes less ... like hair. So it must be a wick song.

  34. M.... P....

like others already stated, i adore BN and they are one of my favorite acts. But this cover is indeed disappointing. rather hear the original by Oldfield. Must say i'm interested how a cover of "Get to France" would sound like by them. Like the rest of the album thus far.

  35. T.... N....

Fantastic cover. Well done as always Ritchie and Candice !!!
Your music inspires, thank you !

  36. M.... ....

Moonlight Shadow???? This really is the bottom of the keg. I thought Celluloid Heroes was bad enough, but this.....
I think it's time for Ritchie to retire. Most of the BN albums these days are full to the brim with covers and gypsy romance. Where is the Medieval Music????

    M.... ....

    +Magister365
I stopped buying the albums after Secret Voyage, I got tired of the same format on every album.
He's not retiring he's doing some rock shows next year with a new Rainbow band...possibly Joe Lynn Turner on vocals and beer gut"

    M.... ....

    Same old stuff, just revamped.

  37. G.... C....

Isn't this song about the murder of John Lennon?

    G.... C....

+Graeme Collin Mike Oldfield denies it. He says it was about attempts to contact Harry Houdini after he died.

    G.... C....

    +Graeme Collin will be?

    G.... C....

In principal, It's a song about death and farewell.

  38. T.... ....

    dudes:
the ORIGINAL is Cat Stevens' on Tea for the Tillerman album.

    T.... ....

+TheOBpotter I Think you missed the light ^^

    T.... ....

    +TheOBpotter
    TheOBvioustroll.

    T.... ....

Hmmmm, that's odd 'cause it gives Mr. Oldfield writing credit.

    T.... ....

Same title but totally different song all together

  39. M.... A....

Cover lost the key characteristics of the original performance: lightness and airiness.
Oldfield's shadow flew, lightly touching the ground while this one plods under its own weight.

    M.... A....

Maybe, but it also gained +10 to awesomeness :-D

    M.... A....

I prefer the original, partly for Mike's acoustic guitar passages. One could hear that it started out as a folk song of sorts, before the electric guitar passages were added. This version lacks the intensity of the original.

  40. M.... K....

ive been waiting for them to do this song

  41. M.... K....

ive been waiting for them to do this song

  42. L.... R....

    RB is a free Mason?...

  43. C.... ....

Very poor bland version.  Blackmore's Night have done some decent stuff in the past (not all of it though) but are starting to sound very bland & generic these days & you get a real sense of Deja Vu listening to their stuff - it all starts to sound too similar.  As a band B.N. have had their day, time to move on now. Even the guitar solo here is lazy & uninspired - compare it to Mike Oldfield's.

  44. H.... H....

nice cover from Ritchie... not bad at all....

    H.... H....

    +Hessu Hopo no, superbad.

  45. O.... J....

I'm a HUGE Blackmore's Night fan but... I wish they'd leave classics like this one alone. Their own stuff is so much better than their cover versions of other people's songs. I didn't really like Lady In Black and I don't much like this either, it seems to totally lack the magic of the original Mike Oldfield version. Having said that, I do think their *Rainbow* covers work rather well and I quite enjoy the BN version of Temple of the King.

    O.... J....

@Outi Jalkanen I have to agree. This isn't always the case, but I have noticed that many of their weakest songs tend to be covers of songs from well known artists. I think a part of that is that their more original songs tend to borrow heavily from Medieval and Renaissance tunes, which is a big part of what makes them so great and unique, but these more modern songs just don't fit the BN style that I've come to love.

    O.... J....

While I think they do far too many covers I actually did like Lady in Black and I also liked I got you babe. Its just a shame Ritchie cant sing because that would have been great to see him and Candice having a duet ;)

  46. H.... ....

I think "To France" might have been a better one to cover. Just my humble opinion.

    H.... ....

Blind Guardian did a great cover version of that one. I agree that it might have been a better choice.

  47. H.... ....

Hmmm. Mike Oldfield/Maggie Reilly as covered by Blackmore's Night. Hmmm. Will have to give this a couple more listens. Hmmm. Not sure about this.

  48. M.... K....

Fantastic song made better by Candice's Voice and Ritches exceptional arranging and guitar work

  49. M.... O....

I much prefer Mike Oldfield's version.

    M.... O....

    +Adelberto Muggler
    And you're just weird.

    M.... O....

hey sweetie, howdydoodie yippie yeah !
    let's go for a ride yaw :)

    M.... O....

    wasn't it sally oldfield

    M.... O....

i respect but i dont think this

  50. k.... ....

    bizarre.....

  51. D.... F....

As a huge Blackmore fan, I have to say that this cover was not necessary...

    D.... F....

@Daniel Fisch Wasn't the impetus leading tothe creation of Rainbow Ritchies desire to do a cover version of Quartermass's Black Sheep of the Family, which the rest of DP had no interest in? Covers can be good. As a great admirer of Mike Oldfield and his recordings of Moonlight Shadow, I'll have to give Ritchie and Candice props for performing this.

    D.... F....

+Scott F. this version is an utter disgrace.

    D.... F....

+Adelberto Muggler I agree - utterly unnecessary. That Glee program would do a better job of it..

    D.... F....

The occasional cover now and then is fine but this band just seem to do one on just about every recording they make. Even though he's 71 now Ritchie is far too accomplished and talented to do covers until he popps his clogs.

    D.... F....

Sure, it was. They already had a song(and album called)shadow of the moon and so wanted to bring the moon shadow thing full(moon)circle. ;) Next up is the Cat Stevens version. :P

  52. D.... S....

I love Mike Oldfield and Richie Blackmore's playing, so this is a mind trip for me hearing Richie doing Mike, really like both of their approaches to the solo. Candace does a very nice job on Maggie Reilly's vocal lines.

    D.... S....

+Darren Selesnow blackmore's solo here is complete crap
this song is oldfield's and must be played exactly as he wrote it .

  53. s.... ....

I remember the techno version of this, years ago. But in all honesty, I think this version surpasses the original

  54. U.... R....

hey Ritchie,i know a good lawyer so u can divorce her and go back making good music. She destroyed you....

    U.... R....

Or you know, he can just not give a shit about what you think and continue doing what he loves?

    U.... R....

    Well said TK!

    U.... R....

    no butts!

    U.... R....

lets guess which of these respondents in Candice Night?

  55. E.... P....

I love this version! Thanks BMN for being each time more wonderful! I Love you!

  56. J.... N....

    Dave Angel here...eco warrior.

  57. b.... ....

Bravo Maestro! Bravo Lady Candice! Greetings from Belgrade - Blue Jard Hill

  58. O.... N....

One of the world's great female vocalists. Pretty good backing band too. Ritchie actually used some electric on this. Nice touch. Electric Renaissance would be a cool genre.
