Blackmore's Night - Celluloid Heroes Lyrics

Everybody’s a dreamer and everybody’s a star
And everybody’s in movies it doesn’t matter who you are
There are stars in every city in every house and on every street
And if you walk down Hollywood Boulevard their names are written in concrete

Don’t step on Greta Garbo as you walk down the boulevard
She looks so weak and fragile that’s why she tried to be so hard
But they turned her into a princess and they sat her on a throne
But she turned her back on stardom because she wanted to be alone

Ref: You can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood Boulevard
Some that you recognise some that you’ve hardly even heard of
People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame
Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain

If you covered him with garbage George Sanders would still have style
And if you stamped on Mickey Rooney he would still turn round and smile
But don’t tread on dearest Marilyn ’cos she’s not very tough
She should have been made of iron or steel but she was only flesh and blood

Ref: You can see all the stars as you walk down Hollywood Boulevard
Some that you recognise some that you’ve hardly even heard of
People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame
Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain [2x]

Rudolph Valentino looks very much alive
And he looks up ladies’ dresses as they sadly pass him by
Avoid stepping on Bela Lugosi ’cause he’s liable to turn and bite
But stand close by Bette Davis because hers was such a lonely life

I wish my life was a non stop hollywood movie show
A fantasy world of celluloid villains and heroes
Because celluloid heroes never feel any pain
And celluloid heroes never really die.

Everybody’s a dreamer and everybody’s a star
And everybody’s in show biz it doesn’t matter who you are
And those who are successful be always on your guard,
Success walks hand in hand with failure along Hollywood Boulevard.

    I love this song

  4. M.... H....

WHAT A HORRIBLE COVER OF A GREAT SONG

  5. J.... G....

    Ray Davies is throwing up.

    J.... G....

Why would he? unless annoyed that someone covers his song better than him ;)

  6. J.... N....

Sehr schöne Version, ich denke Mr Davies würde sich freuen :)

  7. J.... M....

This has to be one of My Least Favourite Blackmore's Night songs!

  8. T.... ....

4:04--"Avoid stepping on Bela Lugosi 'cause he's liable to turn and bite."
I can almost see that: Some girl walks by his star on the Walk of Fame and he playfully leans in for her neck and then winks at her like, "Relax, I'm harmless."
Ah, Bela, you were one of the greats. <3

  9. K.... S....

This song was originally written and performed by the Kinks. it's been covered by many other artists including Blackmore's Night

  10. t.... ....

You know it's a cover, right guys? lol

    t.... ....

Of course. I doubt most people on here have been living under a rock. Lol.

  11. H.... B....

Ich muss ebenfalls dieses Album kaufen...es ist ein must have-danke candice danke ritchie

  12. P.... F....

You know what...her voice is SO much better than it used to be! I love Under a Violet Moon but the vocals are pretty flat in places. This is brilliantly-sung!

  13. f.... ....

A really nice production of a classic Kinks song.

  14. m.... ....

@silat13 Thank you to all that have taught us on this song, which fits very well into Candice Night current state of mind.

  15. s.... ....

@metacosmos she is singing a Kinks song. Written by Ray Davies.. It is a cover..

  16. R.... ....

I am really surprised that very few of you know that this is a 'The Kinks' song from their 1972 album 'Everybody's in Show-Biz'..
    Regards from Spain

  17. w.... ....

I just listened to this again, and this time I almost cried. I have to buy this album now!

  18. w.... ....

Beautiful song. Thanks for sharing the lyrics, too.

  19. 4.... ....

    @oldnewbie47.....I concur 100%.

  20. m.... ....

Yes Candice, your life is like a movie, and you are so fragile as Garbo was, but you forgot Lon Chaney and Errol Flynn and John Barrymore.

  21. J.... C....

    very intersting cover absoultly beautiful.

  22. N.... S....

I'm sorry...I'm a big fan of BN, but I really wish they'd go back to writing there own songs.

    N.... S....

They do. They only put one or two cover songs on each album.

  23. j.... ....

@DruidRobur That's a very fair point and if that is the case then i salute them.

  24. I.... E....

@jonybeam I think you're missing the point of the song. You have to remember that this album is dedicated to their daughter. It is supposed to be giving her some wisdom in her life. The whole album is sort of like that. The songs on in seem to be giving advice to young women. I think people misinterpret the album as Blackmore's Night becoming more commercial when it is really about the appreciation of their daughter and helping her with lifelong struggles she will probably encounter

  25. o.... ....

I am a die hard Kinks fan and had serious misgivings when I saw this on the track list, but what they did with the song I think works brilliantly. The arrangement, the key change... more a re-imagining than a remake. And for me it carry's the same emotional punch as the original. Kudos to Blackmore's Night!!

  26. j.... ....

@andysengines Ah ok thanks for confirming that yes i thought i'd heard someone else mention that.I agree with you i do not understand why they feel the need to include covers of these types of songs or indeed have anything to do with poppy commercial sounding music from time to time(all because of you and just call my name were two other shockers that should never have made it to album aslo) and which for me just spoils otherwise exceptionally good music and albums.Other than that no complaints.

  27. j.... ....

@sugarpixie10988 your absolutley right there with that point. The music on this song is ok(though a little on the commercial side)but those lyrics are dreadful as is the title. Why did they have to write about the hollywoood stars on the hollywood boulevard?what kind of nonsense is that?completely unnessesary and very much out of keeping with the style of the album and what the band stand for.I think if it was all left to Candice then we would no longer have a rennaisance style of music at all

  28. P.... ....

Yeah, I don't really like this one as much as the others either. The music is fine, but the lyrics aren't my cup of tea. Still a great album though!
