Black Sabbath - The Illusion Of Power Lyrics

What is it that turns you on to the illusion of power,
This thing that grabs you by the heart and makes you want to tear things down.
There is no reason why I should need all this power, but if you cross me now,
I'm gonna tear your whole world down.

The illusion of power, things I feel, seem so real,
The illusion of power.

I can' get the emotional thing straight in my head,
Everything I love dies to soon, or is already dead.
Don't stand too close I spit and breath fire,
Anything I've got now you cannot desire.

You want to be my friend I promise you nothing,
Nothing I can give you, nothing I can do for you,
I'm being chased by the sins of my past and it's killing me now,
Killing me now.

The illusion of power, things I feel, seem so real,
The illusion of power.
The illusion of power, it's already set signed and sealed,
The illusion of power.

Powerful...who are you fooling?
You're caught in a complex cataclysm of your own inadequacies
And pitiful weaknesses
Your souls secretes insecurity
So you live on the reflection side of the mirror
You're terrified of true power...you fear me...

I can tell you stories of my
Shaded past and I can
Drag you down into the
Depths of my soul.

The illusion of power, things I feel, seem so real,
The illusion of power.
The illusion of power, it's already set signed and sealed,
The illusion of power.

Why don't you come closer, Promise a story I will tell, yeah,
I'll save you from your dreams, yeah
I'll save you from your dreams.

Tony iommi is in the studio Re- mixing this album now I have heard this a couple of months ago

  10. V.... K....

I think Lost in Vegas would dig a reaction
    Thumbs up!

    V.... K....

Lost a lot of respect for those guys

    V.... K....

@Integrity101 haven't checked them out lately, why is that?

  11. J.... ....

I CAN'T GET THE EMOTIONAL THINGS STRAIGHT IN MY HEAD!

  12. T.... D....

This song (and album) is so underrated.

  13. R.... F....

    I like this song

  14. .... ....

    Самый крутой альбом!

  15. M.... ....

In my honest opinion this album sounds like everybody was completely burned out and kinda disinterested. I’m glad they’re remixing it, instead of just letting it be forgotten, like how Metallica still plays songs from saint anger

  16. M.... ....

Imagine how shitty life would have been if they never made 13 and this was their last album.

  17. A.... O....

I never realized ice t was on this until I read the comments haha

  18. E.... S....

    Great song.

  19. S.... W....

Ice t changes his voice like a monster

  20. S.... W....

    Black Sabbath and Body count

  21. K.... B....

A highly underrated classic. Imo there isn't a single bad Black Sabbath album

    K.... B....

@Holsred Redloom Ever heard of personal opinion jackass

  22. M.... ....

    Reminds me Incantation :D

  23. J.... P....

Best Sabbath album, so underrated. Raw and real. Proper good shit

  24. M.... &....

Things that i feel seems so real.

  25. T.... ....

Tony Martin is like a Chinese bootleg Dio

    T.... ....

Listen to Headless Cross, Tyr and Cross Purposes. His performance of Sabbath Stones in Holland in the early 90's is blinding. He had incredible range but he destroyed his voice in studio. He still isn't too bad these days.

    T.... ....

@Grandmastergav86 definitely not a lot of range but he sounds pretty great. Range isn't everything.

    T.... ....

Lol. I hear these comparisons that people make of and with him to Dio but I just do not hear them. I mean SURE I confess on some level but not genuinely speaking. He is as he should be and that is unto himself...

    T.... ....

@AlexKx I mean they both have powerful voices but they're pretty different. Dio has a lot of bite and snarl to his voice while Tony Martin has a cleaner more soaring voice.

  26. M.... F....

This is still better than dehumanizer.

  27. S.... W....

That singer sounds like Sammy Hager from Van Halen

  28. S.... V....

Hey is singing Dio or Ozzy? Someone tell me please

    S.... V....

Both were singing, but for different bands. ;-)

  29. P.... P....

Temaso....... lo escuchaba desde el 2001

  30. J.... T....

    awful lol

  31. L.... S....

    Martin - Vocals
    Iommi - Guitar
    Murray - Bass
    Powell - Drums
    Nicholls - Keyboards

    L.... S....

    Feat. Ice-T on Co-Vocals

    L.... S....

    no Ozzy??

    L.... S....

@Shedosenteven GoHere who is ozzy? martin is better

    L.... S....

    ICE T - sheat vocals

  32. E.... S....

This is proper Doom and darkness, if you ignore the rap bit

  33. D.... j....

It's good but like, it's not Sabbath good

    D.... j....

just listen to the depressing gloomy riff
    it's sabbath good
    lyrics are doomy too

    the mixing isn't sabbath

  34. d.... p....

This was just a very very awful album!! I don't know why this featured no original members of the band and not even Dio!! Are you shitting me!?!?

  35. g.... i....

    3:50 that satan laugh though

    g.... i....

glenn ivan that was Ice t laughing

  36. T.... ....

I remember seeing sabbath in aston 1989 when i was 13, very vivid memories, tony martin was excilent i was at the front rail on the side of tony Iommi i new all the tracks well bar two, think this is Sound ok...took less than 1/4 of the track till im hooked on the riff, martin sounds cool, and ice sounds bad ass....just heard it for the first time

  37. D.... S....

This song kicks major ass. Love the intro, then the cool ass riff. If you don’t like it at first, please smoke a joint, then re-listen. I promise you it’ll grow on you. Then you’ll be hooked. The illusion of power you think you have when it comes to control will cease to exist because you’ll be wanting more and more, like a drug. This song is one of the coolest songs cause it’s kinda cheesy but totally makes sense for such a silly song title. Loves chilling out to this song. Peace....

    D.... S....

I mean like who the fuck would tell someone they have an “illusion of power”? Unless it’s sone dickhead boss or your bitch ass wife. Badass and I mean a damn badass song!!!! The end

  38. P.... C....

My big sister scared the hell out of me when i was a kid with this song when it was dark outside 😌 😁

    P.... C....

Hahahaha I could imagine. What an awesome sister though. Does she have a boyfriend? Asking for a friend

  39. E.... V....

Good Track from a by and large forgettable album.

  40. M.... D....

    true metal

  41. L.... p....

    Great!!!

  42. a.... w....

It really makes me upset that this album, cross purposes, headless cross and tyr is not on Spotify

    a.... w....

IRS doesn't exist and iommi has the rights

    a.... w....

@Jamez P Wow. How do you know any of this?

    a.... w....

    easy
iommi remixes forbidden himself and if IRS existed there would be reissues of tony martin albums everywhere

  43. N.... D....

    God this sucks

  44. N.... A....

As a large Sabbath fan....I've always given every lead singer & album the chance to see if it's actually good. This song has descent riffs...but the lyrics are beyond corny & stupid. This is Sabbath's worst song if not one of their 3 worst.

  45. w.... ....

Classic song. Really well-produced, performed and sung. I love Ice T's part too. Martin's soulful vocals are classic. This whole album is pretty great. Between this song, Can't Get Close Enough, I Won't Cry For You and the title track, one of the best of their more recent albums.

  46. D.... B....

There are a lot of people here that are the only one who likes it

  47. E.... R....

    🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
    Brasil metal

  48. I.... G....

I dont see anything wrong with this just cause theres rap in it dosent make it bad so chill definently not their best work tho but even their weakest album is better then most of the other music i that time

  49. J.... M....

    Iommi Rules!!!

  50. B.... O....

Tony Martin is my favorite Sabbath singer, but this album just didn't do it for me. Try, Headless Cross, Eternal Idol, Cross Purposes, Are all insane.

  51. J.... H....

Holy shit, I used to have this album, but this is the first time I've listened to it, basically I got itcause of the imp and the chubby pixie doing it doggy style on the left corner of the album cover.
Man I used to fap off to the craziest shit back in the day

  52. V.... ....

Who is singing on this track?

    V.... ....

Tony Martin. The spoken word is by Ice-T. Pretty lame.

    V.... ....

    meigsman59 Tony Martin?

  53. B.... ....

    sick bass tone.

  54. R.... K....

Ernie C, Body Counts (Ice T's band) guitarist produced this album.

  55. A.... H....

Good songs on this record. The band felt I guess of a some kind of experimentation to some point, and that is ok. Also, this happend to the mix and there was the most critical fails. Mostly on the drums cause the sound is too "boxy" and they just don't fit to the rest of standard Sabbath feel. And on Martin 's voice at moments where it gets too "dry" of reverb and fails to reach his usual largeness.

  56. R.... D....

This song wouldn’t be nearly as cringey if it wasn’t for Ice-T

  57. F.... N....

    great song !

  58. R.... G....

    Dat riffffffff

  59. n.... ....

Thank God the likes differs from the dislikes , that means is not that bad .

  60. M.... C....

    Great song

  61. R.... B....

    sucks nuts

  62. M.... H....

for fuck's sake this is not rap. stop saying that. it's just ice-t talking

  63. Z.... B....

Amazing riff, not sure about everything else

  64. A.... N....

    Eu gosto

  65. M.... E....

Sabbath still better than today's Rock!

  66. A.... ....

IMO...this was the best album they did with Tony Martin

    A.... ....

    Noooooo. Eternal Idol

  67. S.... S....

Tony Iommi has admitted that this was a filler record to finish their contract with the label and do the reunion with the original lineup

  68. N.... D....

GREAT SONG - TYPICAL SABBATH slow burning sinister deadly axe riff with apocalyptic ending ....Splendid. ..

  69. d.... p....

Black Sabbath is only awesome with Ozzy or Dio in my opinion. It doesn't seem right to have someone sing whose never been a member of black sabbath or to have none of the original members take over and release albums like this....!

  70. B.... ....

Ice T on a Black Sabbath track, I never thought I would see the day....

  71. B.... G....

I liked it until the vocals started. What the hell is that crap?

  72. i.... ....

Thought I’d hate this, but glad I gave it a chance

  73. T.... ....

The production is just god awful

  74. S.... M....

Oddly enough, I think this is the best song on this album. The whole album is horrible, don't get me wrong, but this is the least awful track imo. Everything else that came after this song is just weak and boring as hell. At least one can get some amusement from this song from the fact that it has frickin' Ice-T on vocals! And the music is actually pretty good, sounds a lot like old school Black Sabbath. You could almost say this song was trying to find a medium between staying true to the classic Black Sabbath style while still trying to be new, hip and cool for its time, lol.

  75. R.... Y....

    best sab album evar!

  76. R.... B....

My first Black Sabbath's song. <3

  77. B.... T....

Just imagining.. Ozzy's vocal style would suit that song.

  78. M.... K....

    like this one

  79. J.... J....

I think black sabbath should of disbanded back in the 80s after Dio left I really do.

  80. C.... K....

Awesome Tony Martin stuff. There are Ozzy and Dio lovers, then there's those who understand and appreciate the darkness of Tony Iommis riffing.

    C.... K....

    Clark Kent Iommi is Sabbath!!!!

  81. H.... ....

Everybody talking about the Ice T part but nobody is going to talk about the boring ass riff or the awful chorus? Really?

  82. r.... c....

Any Sabbath is better than most shit today

  83. b.... ....

I love this song. A personal favorite collaboration.

  84. C.... ....

    This reminds me of Lulu

    C.... ....

The entire metal community has agreed to never bring that up again ever.

  85. D.... ....

Not that I have a problem with Ice T being on this song, but it came out during that era of music where rockers and rappers were collaborating all the time. I kind of miss those days

  86. E.... J....

    this song is badass!

  87. v.... ....

If someone says this is rap and it's bad, then I love rap and all the bad things!!!

  88. l.... f....

For some strange reason I can't really explain, I find this to be hilariously awesome.

  89. C.... D....

The only song that proves that Metal is fucking racist ! I not only don't care about Ice-T being involved I embrace it, Black Sabbath was one of the few bands that had the guts to make an album sound like this, wish they all did, not only ANTHRAX.

  90. C.... U....

The tour for this album was the first real concert I ever went to as a kid. The show was Sabbath, Motorhead, and Kix. Motorhead were so out of tune for the whole show that nobody could even tell when they were playing Ace of Spades until a few lines into the song.

  91. m.... ....

    It's awesome. \m/

  92. k.... l....

Not sure why ice t was on this song really did not add anything to it

  93. j.... ....

Sorry but this is not lemonade.

  94. J.... J....

    Nice stoner/doom metal

  95. R.... ....

um trouxa do site whiplash ainda -coloca na lista esse álbum como o pior, não saca porra nenhuma de música mesmo

  96. G.... D....

Very cinematic song, I hope it will be in some blockbuster soundtrack sooner or later.

  97. L.... ....

Am I the only one who thinks Forbidden isn't such a bad album? Sure it's not the best of the Martin era (the weakest is easily Tyr, imo) but it has a few really gems hidden on there. I'm not even ashamed to call Rusty Angels one of my all-time favourite Sabbath songs.

    L.... ....

    Liam8VIII you're right....

    L.... ....

Tony Iommi is the riff master 6 star general of metal and he is the center of Black Sabbath... this song is awesome

    L.... ....

Its not the gigantic pile of shit that people make it out to be, but its definitely their weakest. There's still some very solid tracks, biggest problem though is the mixing. Its awful. Iommi just announced he's remixing the album so hopefully its a whole new world after that

    L.... ....

@AstroKnott Iommi's remixing "Forbidden"? Huh? That's pretty cool.

  98. J.... G....

I actually WISH this song had actual rapping and not just spoken word. It could have been like something off the Judgement Night soundtrack. The fact that Ice-T's performance was such an obvious afterthought is a giveaway of how cynical a move it was on Iommi's part, and how much he realized the material sucked.

  99. D.... M....

Dios pero que riff, ...solo posible con Mr. Iommi
