My view on this is that she's traveling or running away from her problems, and maybe the humanlike creature in her backpack is her guilt or homesickness, a hindrance from her moving forward. But then life decides to fuck shit up for her and she finally accepts her conflicting feeling and therefore finds where she really wanted to be.

I don't want to say 'what' because everyone is different, but let's say "I want to drive this car", or have some sort of status to think we have arrived in life, instead of finding out what truly makes us tick, what drives us as individuals. If we can pull away from what we are fed media-wise, and contribute who we are to the rest of the world, we might discover a full life and pass on to our circle of influence, our contribution to life. It's hard to describe without being long-winded. Ok, let me try this: since childhood, we are told to aspire to follow a certain pattern to be successful. I guess it varies by culture, but what makes you "you"? What makes you tick, something you can't live without and say "I can do that!". It might not be the path you're on, but it's ok to follow your dreams and discover it. Me, personally, I want to leave this world, and show my children that they are free to find themselves apart from what others are bound to tell them equates to success. My goal is to sleep soundly knowing that tomorrow, I will finally work towards not just dreaming my dreams, but living them. And that's what I want for my children. Generations of discoverers, doers, finders, to make the world that much better because we are in it. Without you, Lena, I am missing something only you can show me.

I'm sorry, but this is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. I feel like Bjork and Bowie are 2 sides of the same coin; the masculine and feminine energies of changing and evolution. and, in doing so, being so ahead of the collective curve of other artists that have yet to catch up to them. I'm so glad and thankful we have them and the art they create.
