Bishop, Elvin - Travelin' Shoes Lyrics
Me and my old lady
Ain't been gettin' along
Things don't get better
I'll soon be long gone
This situation's driving me insane
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
I'm trying to tell you, boys
These hard-headed women these days
The way they try and treat a man
Ain't nothing but a doggone shame
I talk and talk and talk
She didn't hear a word I said
Gonna get Hank Aaron's baseball bat
And tenderize her head
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Oh yeah...
I'm trying to tell you, boys
I've just about had enough
I'm not gonna stick around
And put up with all this stuff
This situation is enough to kill a man
Somebody fetch my coat and hat and hand me my walking cane
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Gotta put on my travelin' shoes
Oh yeah...

Saw Elvin in '81 in a small town hotel ballroom. He walked around the ballroom shaking peoples hands while playing this song. Stretched it out for a good 15 minutes.
Saw these guys twice in Sacramento, great shows.
Typical Elvin Bishop song. Life's simple if you let it be.
What a great guitarist !! Thanks for posting. If you want to know more about Elvin:

I saw EB in a small venue, the Hayloft Saloon just outside of Billings, MT, probably around '77. He had two of the hottest sax players it's ever been my privilege to hear. They absolutely raised the roof. I wish I knew who they were and where I could find other recordings, particularly live ones, of them.
Voy a invadir Polonia con esta canción
she's a good size 12 but wears a size 9.......what song is that from ?
Saw him at Stony brook college a couple times, this guitar solo is a classic masterpiece
Take me home Elvin . . .
One of my favorite songs to play bass to. I know it's basically two chords, but the bass player has a lot of free reign and can GO NUTS on it. Plus it ALWAYS packs the dance floor.
Red Bar Rebel Michael Fly Brooks great bass learned it way back in the 70s
saw him in 72...opened for lynyrd skyny
rd, and CDB...for 2 dollars....tickets were 4 dollars but a buddy was too loaded to go.....so...
Oh, to be a teen in the 70's. I was there!
Love this song ❤❤❤
I saw Elvin Bishop at Disneyland in Anaheim California. I was 15 or 16 years old. Mickey Thomas was in the band and their big hit song had just come out. I only remember two songs from the concert. This song and Fooled Around and Fell in Love. My friend and I met a couple of girls. We hung out, rode rides and smoked weed on the Skyway Tram. At night, we slow danced and made out with the girls when the song, Fooled Around came. The dance floor was packed with junior high and high school kids.
I got a little love sick over the girl, a few days after the concert. She was an incredibly cute blond girl. I wanted to see her again. We made plans to meet at a park. Then she told me that her older brother (18) overheard her talking to me on the phone and he and his friends planned to jump me, if I showed up at the park. She said, her brother was watching her like hawk and she probably shouldn't talk to me anymore. She cried on the phone and I was pretty bummed out about it. It was love at first sight and all that. I said, "But, you're in high school! Sooner or later, you're going to start dating anyway. What's your brother's problem?" Then she hit me with the kicker. She lied to me about her age. She was only 13 years old!
I was a Sophomore Stoner/Rocker who listened to bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult. I wasn't going to risk getting my ass kicked by a bunch of high school Senior Jocks, over a middle school Bubblegum girl, with stack of David Cassidy records at home. I had to have at least some standards. Ha Ha!
Saw him back in 1975(?) at the Long Beach Arena, California. He was opening for ZZ Top. Brownsville Station also played an opening act (Smoking in the Boys Room). Love this piece of music. Tears to my eyes when I hear the guitar and piano going off!!!
Elvin Bishop's BEST song!
I bought this album at the tender age of 14. Loved it! Classic Elvin. Nothing better.
I actually held your Lucile and smoked a joint with you boys in A2. We had to leave early. My best friends wife went into labor. Elvin that was a long time ago. .
Let me tell ya something Brother. Elvin. Our memories of your live perfomances will never fade.

Is Dickey Betts on this track as well?
Nope.. jest Elvin and Johnny "V" Vernazzo
I saw him at the first Heritage Blues Fest in Wheeling WV 2002, I think. He really rocked it out and I got to meet him backstage. What a.cool guy!!

traveling shoes.... good stuff.... they just don't make jam music like that anymore...
Remember back then when they played all the long versions of songs on FM radio? It was all about the music, not money.

not even Aaron's baseball bat could beat any sense into some women's heads.
Hey now, Watch yourself or you'll be gettin no sugar any time soon.
Thank you Charlie Daniels for giving Elvin a mention in The South's Gonna Do It Again if it weren't for him I probably woulda never discovered this legend
Me too! CDB turned a lot of us into Elvin.
I have this on 8-track! It gets played to entirety every once in awhile, still sounds decent too.
I still have this album in my vinyl collection along with several other Elvin albums💯

Me too!
Had to love the seventies, Cheap drugs and cheap gasoline.
The women weren't completely ruined yet, either.

Elvin......*********
From Paulo butterfield and Alvin Made it. What a great guy.
Went fishing with him, so, really dig this song. He made me a fishing pole from a tree branch. No kidding. I caught the first fish :)
But Elvin killed the first six-pack!

Comments are GOLD
Pigboy!!!
Crabshaw!
I never quite understood the nick name's origin. In Sacramento, there was a club named "Crabshaw Corner." The rumor was that the band as from there and Pigboy Crabshaw gave the name to the club, played there a lot, etc. Can you or anyone give any clue to confirm or dispose of this notion?
Where is sunshine special?????
They were all live in '69 at Woodstock with Paul Butterfield and we loved it!!
bishop and blumfield none better
Nobody does it like Pigboy Crabshaw.
Saw him in Pensacola Fla around 74 and a riot started because they weren't playing live and the fans were having NONE of it.
Really? Why weren't they playing live?
Because they along with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils thought they could get away with it.
Sounds like a BS story to me. Probably sounded so good you couldn't believe...ha-ha!!
Gonna get Hank Aaron's baseball bat........
I just heard this lyric for the first time in my life today, probably wouldn't be very well received today :)
The resurrection of pigboy crabshaw
DAMN -- all these years I thought that was Lynard Skynard. Where I live that didn't get a whole lot of air time on the radio. Glad I found this.
LOL, yeah a lot of people also think Green grass and high tides was by some other group instead of The Outlaws. That song also had some SERIOUS guitar playing. If you have not heard it, do it now.
I always thought it was The Band...lol
Bought the vinyl first time I heard this song and still have it - masterful guitar~!
going to get a hank aarons baseball bat and tenderize her head.some of the best lyrics i have ever heard
Not Steve Miller of the Steve Miller Band, but Stephen Miller who went on to play with Grinderswitch.
Same mistake made on the liner notes for the Allmans' "Fillmore Concerts" expanded CD set. Elvin and his band were in town the same week and guested with the Bros on the final tune in the set, "Drunken Hearted Boy." Steve Miller (the famous one) is noted as the piano player, but it was Stephen Miller from Bishop's band.
and played with Elvin on Clifton Chenier's Red Hot Louisiana Band
You would have to look at the 70's country and western charts to find it
Steve Miller on piano
This song was huge in 1976
Actually it was 1974.
