Billy Idol - Wasteland Lyrics

Out into the wasteland
Out into the wasteland

No religion
No religion, no religion at all
No religion
No religion, no religion at all
No religion, no religion at all
No religion
No religion, no religion at all
No religion
No religion at all
No religion

Emissionary man amongst the heathen
Can't you see a modern primitive
I came back, I'm gonna find,
I'm gonna give religion
When there was, no religion at all

I'm outta the wasteland
I'm into this head man
I'm outta the wasteland
No religion at all
I'm outta the wasteland
I'm into this head man
I'm outta the wasteland
No religion, no religion at all

There's a man in need of resurrection
(No religion)
Can't you see a modern primitive
(No religion)
But I'm a man I need my love and
freedom (No religion)
When there was no freedom at all

I'm outta the wasteland
I'm into this head man
I'm outta the wasteland
No religion at all
I'm outta the wasteland
I'm into this head man
I'm outta the wasteland
No religion, no religion at all

No religion
No religion at all
No religion
No religion at all

In VR land
The future of fun
Tell me what to do
In VR law
Computer crime
Um, so sublime
A fantasy scene
In my machine
Give me secret of life
Let me know, yeah, what I am
And you know that I could get

Outta the wasteland
I'm into this head man
I'm outta the wasteland
No religion at all
I'm outta the wasteland
I'm into this head man
I'm outta the wasteland
No religion, no religion at all
I'm outta the wasteland
So far from the the deadland
Ow, I'm outta the wasteland
No religion, no religion yeah
I'm outta the wasteland
So far from the the deadland
Yeah, I'm outta the wasteland
No religion, no religion at all

No religion, no religion at all
No religion
No religion, no religion at all
No religion
No religion, no religion at all
No religion
No religion, no religion at all
No religion at all
No religion at all
No religion

Billy Idol with Dreadlocks?... Yes the cyberpunk album was.... way... Waaaaay ahead of its time. I read countless articles about it in magazines and the "technological binge" that Billy was on at the time. I remember he released this album also with a 3.5 floppy disc that contained photos, and interviews etc... , and also put an E-Mail to it where his fans could contact him. Saying he could have "direct contact" with his "millions of fans".
But just like then as it is now. Haters gathered and emailed him relentlessly and bashed the album and everything about it and was accusing him for "Cyberpunk" as nothing more than being a cash-grab.

(I looked up the old E-Mail adress and it was: [email protected])

It did not even help either that Stan Winston (The special-effects guru (The Thing, Terminator, Jurassic Park, etc) was the one in charge of directing Billys "Shock To The System" videos special effects. But not even that helped either the song nor the album reach into the top charts of that time.

Well whatever ones opinions might be about Billy Idols Cyberpunk. The ideas behind it was way ahead of its time and he was also the first ever musical artist and the first ever album to use "Pro Tools" on it. Which is a standard today, some 26 years later.
And also with Cyberpunk breaking all the digital grounds, i think Billy Idol was the first cyber bully victim. Here was a man that went out in full openness, with emails and floppy discs and was really into the internet and the way of the future.. And what happened?.. He thought people would love it. The exact opposite transpired. He got attacked, belittled, hassled, and i am sure emotionally destroyed.

Think about it... It took him 12 years after cyberpunk to release another studio album. What did he do in those 12 years?... Recovering from online harassment?....

Haha ;)... Thank you for sharing <3

This album is pure genius...if only Steve Stevens had been the guitarist on it, it would have been a smash! Not to take away from this release, just saying as incredible as it is, it could have been even more amazing!!!

Hey brother, this is a wicked piece of work! And you did this in '93? Whoa! I Just made a "No Religion Live" DVD from an MKV file of the original DVD some good bro sent me and I'd love to insert this piece in there somewhere (although I wouldn't). The original concert DVD is hard to find now and cost an arm without knowing what you're getting. And as usual it doesn't have all the performances from his 1993 "No Religion" tour and Wasteland is missing from it. This piece is a worthy addition, although it seems you used the original Wasteland album track to your video, no? Anyway, Cyberpunk is a masterpiece of a concept album. A wicked progression for Idol that no body seemed to get back then, dreadlocks and all! What else do you have from that performance shot with your Hi-8? Brother, I'm licking my chops right now!

Agree.. this is a much better Groove from Billy.

  13. H.... C....

My Brother In Law Ronald played this quite a bit. I remember eating KFC along to this.

  14. H.... D....

Ahead of his time and under rated but its coming back with that cyberpunk game thing coming out all good :D

    H.... D....

The whole "Cyber punk" subculture never took off did it.

  15. S.... J....

Criminally underrated and basically ignored by the media and 'critics'
Even fans that are too tight assed for their own good in terms of only liking the first two albums being too orthodox in audio scope

    S.... J....

Critics had great cyberpunk albums by KMFDM, Die Krupps, Front Line Assembly, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Cat Rapes Dog, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Nine Inch Nails, Cubanate, Sister Machine Gun, Cassandra Complex, Neon Judgement, X-Marks the Pedwalk, Puppee Fabrikk, Project Pitchfork, Apoptygma Berzerk, Der Eisenrost, Killing Joke, and many others. Billy Idol was old-fashioned and delusional at that time.

    S.... J....

@dieselhead Correct. He was also way into his heavy drug use and lifestyle at the time. After the fail of CyberPunk it took him 12 years before he released another album. That should make one thing really clear what was going on at that time.
Ahead of its time as the album was, that i don't deny but the songs were absolute garbage. Either for Rock or Pop. Needlessly to say every artist or band has them. For example KISS with "Music From The Elders"... An album that should never have been even made. But its how it goes.

  16. A.... T....

I really enjoy this video, it's fantastic, great work, thanks!!!

  17. C.... 6....

Could just as easily be called Dieselpunk. Cool in any case.

Cyberpunk es uno de los álbumes más cañeros e increibles que he escuchado jamás. Las canciones que lo componen son excelentes, su producción, el sonido... ¡Todo es brutal de principio a fin!
Mis favoritas son Wasteland, Tomorrow People, Adam in Chains y Love Labours on.

Thanks and good job, Lane :))

    R.... G....

Eres un clon mio o qué? Coincido plenamente, las canciones que has nombrado son exactamente las mejores del álbum para mi, si las habré escuchado y re escuchado en los 90s madre mia, el sonido? Unico !!!

  29. i.... ....

Listen to Tomorrow people as well!

    i.... ....

@izadine Yes, my two favorite songs from Cyberpunk were "Wasteland" and "Tomorrow People". I had better video coverage of "Wasteland" so I cut all the footage I had to create this video. I like listening to "Tomorrow People" in my car at full blast. Hope you can see him perform these two less recognized gems this summer.

  30. i.... ....

Love this song! Hope he plays it in Sthlm this Summer (2015)

  31. M.... ....

LOVE THIS SONG... You did a great job on the video Lane ...Kudos Dude !!

    M.... ....

Thanks, glad you liked it! I enjoyed making it years ago, and finally now sharing it online. Cheers! - Lane Wyrick

  32. A.... F....

    I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!

  33. M.... ....

Cyberpunk was the best Idol album...

    M.... ....

It was his best best work by far, way ahead of it's time.

    M.... ....

In every details it's a perfect album.

    M.... ....

    Totally agree

    M.... ....

Did you get the version which came with the PC disc?...

  34. L.... ....

Lane, this is a great video.  Tweet Billy the link,  you never know you may get a response from him.  He'd love it

  35. J.... S....

This is only the 2nd time Ive heard this song and I love it...the video is epic thank you for being so GOOd and dedicated and for sharing with us all :)

    J.... S....

    thx for watching Jude

  36. w.... ....

Very interesting. I totally missed this concert. I was a regular at the club. Also, James Cameron cast Billy as T-1000 for his Terminator movie so perhaps thats the reason Billy did this for Cameron then? Interesting also that Billy chose that club, wonder why? Instead of a larger venue or something.

Thanks for sharing this rare footage and video!

  37. L.... W....

I don't have much to add about Billy Idol. I was just another audience member but with a video camera. I never heard anything from Billy Idol or his people. I'm wondering if they have seen it, and if so, do they like it?

There are a couple of other songs on the Cyberpunk CD that I really like, but I got the best video coverage on Wasteland so I used footage from the entire evening to edit to that particular song. My edit system consisted of a B&W Mac classic and two video decks - slow!

  38. L.... W....

Hi ZZombyWooff - I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We were in the middle of production on "True Lies" and I was working in the visual effects department as a production assistant, but I had been shooting a lot of videos on the side. When I got to the event the bouncers stopped me three times when I was filming. They were concerned that I would capture shots of Prince's Glam Slam bar during the video, so after I said I wouldn't shoot any of the surroundings, I got the okay to film.

  39. L.... W....

Yes, it was all shot handheld, including the spins and camera moves. I shot it with the mindset of creating a music video, so the original footage would not make for very good viewing of the event.

I used a cuts-only editing system, and the only effects I did were to turn everything black & white, and added some strobing to the video. Each edit took about 30 seconds to perform between two decks so it was very tedious, but I really had a desire to get it done despite the equipment limitations.

  40. s.... ....

And this was all shot on one handheld? Impressive. Is all the spinning and quick panning done at the time of shooting, or is that produced in editing?

  41. M.... B....

    nice body btw

  42. C.... ....

    Dreadlocks = crap.
