Billie Holiday - Stars Fell On Alabama Lyrics

We lived our little drama.
We kissed in a field of white
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

I can't forget the glamour.
Your eyes held a tender light
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

I never planned in my imagination
A situation so heavenly.
A fairy land where no one else could enter
And in the center, just you and me, dear.

My heart beat like a hammer.
My arms wound around you tight
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

We lived our little drama.
We kissed in a field of white
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

I can't forget the glamour.
Your eyes held a tender light
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

I never planned in my imagination
A situation so heavenly.
A fairy land where no one else could enter
And in the center, just you and me, dear.

My heart beat like a hammer.
My arms wound around you tight
And stars fell on Alabama last night.

Whenever I have a dinner party and it’s a perfect summer night with fireflies and vibrant pastel sunsets this finds its way tinkling over the patio, it generally makes people fall silent (I have a different version...slower and more melancholy) it’s such an evocative number LOVE IT!!

happy birthday Billy Holiday, You should be proud that a fourth generation is still listening to your jazz.

  33. D.... h....

Billie was one of a kind. Her voice carried all her love, pain, suffering, heartache and tenderness when ever she sang. Thank God for recordings of her golden voice. She touched us all that have a soul. Enjoy!

  34. B.... A....

    I ♥ IT.

  35. s.... ....

Just came from listening to an hour of Sarah Vaughan's music, but OMG, Billie Holiday's versions just hit you in the gut when she sings.  Sarah Vaughan's voice is a thing of wonder, but her versions just don't hit you in the gut like they do when you listen to Billie Holiday.  Even here in 1957, when critics b*tched about how deteriorated Billie Holiday sounds, she is simply remarkable.  I dk about other versions of "Stars in Alabama", but her version here is FANTASTIC!!  At the end of its nearly 5-minute run, Billie Holiday leaves you breathless!  That's what Billie Holiday can do to you.  She takes you on an emotional journey that most singers simply cannot.

    s.... ....

@shihlin1 Dont compare the two (for ur own sake!!).. just make sure that you enjoy both Sarah and Bllly separately... Coz Billy is #1 and then u go straight to #10.. the gap is yet to be filled... :-)

    s.... ....

Miss Holiday is unique. Her phrasing is sublime. If you want to see me fall apart, play "Strange Fruit" or "You've Changed". Billie was, still is, amazing.

    s.... ....

Renee olstead version was pretty good too.

    s.... ....

I love them both. Can't compare them, they are so different.

    s.... ....

gosh. reading below, I am fascinated with comments. My first intro to Billie Holiday was in 1948 when I (then 8 yr old) was visiting my cousin in Saint Louis. Her wonderful mom ran a boarding house with a variety of residents. One of them was a total jazz junkie ... and in a very happy, joyous sort of way. — Sarah Vaughan and her magical voice is utterly beautiful and elegant, always a joy to hear. But, to paraphrase, she is no Billie Holiday. Billy Holiday is something else, a piece of work, a piece of heaven, I am certain. Her voice wraps around my head forever. ;-)
