It was a TV movie back in the early 90s. It's based off a true story that was made into a Broadway show in the 50s,a movie in the 70s and is currently being remade again.

You can find something wonderful in all of the"big" Rose interpretations, but honest-to-god she was waiting for Bette. I had some problems with this production but NOT BETTE MIDLER. So good she brings tears of joy.

Disappointed. I had though the Divine Miss M could deliver on this sontg and I looked forward to her. I so much prefer Rosalind Russell's interpretation. For one thing Roz carried it off with class and grace, every inch the lady despite the burlesque. Bette is too much of a sleaze here, overdoing the bump and grind. Roz was truer to the song at moments defiant, victorious, doubtful, and even tender. Bette is merely harsh throughout and she has far more vocal and acting range than is shown here.

Couldn't the director reign her in? I don't for one moment believe she believes she's Mama Rose. There must not have been a bit of scenery without her teeth marks in it.

just googled the time this came out, it was the same for hocus pocus, now I get the hair and the joke gains incredible weight ( btw if you google the straight time then it says 1982 and it's not the same gypsy, I googled all of her movies and then scrolled )
