Benson, George - The World Is A Ghetto Lyrics

Walking down the street foggy-eyed
Looking at the sky starry-eyed
Searching for a place weary-eyed
Crying in the night teary-eyed

Don't you know that it's true
That for me and for you, the world is a ghetto
Don't you, don't you know, that it's true
That for me and for you, it's a ghetto, wo oh oh

It's a ghetto, it's a ghetto...

Don't you know that it's true
That for me and for you, the world is a ghetto
Don't you, don't you know, that it's true
That for me and for you, it's a ghetto, wo oh oh

Yeah yeah yeah, that it's true
That for me, that for me, and for you, and for you
The world is a ghetto, ghetto, oh oh

You know it's a ghetto
Don't you know, that this world is a ghetto
Yes it is

I grew up on George Benson! He's one of my ALL time favorites, and has been an enormous influence on the music I love :)

  14. Chris Clarke

Not enough superlatives to sum this track up - seriously.
It moves like a train out of a station and gathers momentum and then steams along beautifully.
I love the confidence in it’s slow beginnings and having no vocal for 4 minutes and then George doing his thing in sync with the guitar.
It feels personal, like a jam session with friends that just turned out really really well.
It’s a man who totally in love with his music and it shines through so strongly.
I can’t really of anything to compare it with.
One of my all time favourites of any genre.
Mr Benson I salute you and thank you.

Everyone in the comments be reminiscing about the days of old, when music was music and so on and then there's me, a Gen Z kid who came here because of Spinal Scratch by Thomas Bangalter (1/2 of Daft Punk) - BRILLIANT sampling on that track. Thomas clearly knew a jam when he heard one.

I woke up this morning, feeling like I had lost something in my sleep. After a brief wave of confusion, I noticed what I had lost. I had no sense of touch. I scrambled to my Macintosh computer, knocking over a room temperature glass of water all over the floor, and played this masterpiece immediately. I am proud to say I have regained my sense of touch because of this song! I can feel things again!!!!!

I flipped this in a short EP I made at the beginning of it. Check it out

  84. nickthekiller3

Used to commute to work by bike. Bicycle, not motorcycle. Had this downloaded onto phone. One of the best cycling songs around. Music pushes you down the road probably another 3 MPH and for a a regular cycling hack going back and forth to work, that's big. 8:35-9:10 always made me push harder. Just couldn't help myself. Awesome.

  85. Ines Arce

One of my first bought albums ...Awesome!

    Ralf A.

The same here...bought this album as a birthday-gift for my dad when I was 12 or 13.... I will never get tired to listen....

  87. Berlinlover1917

George Benson is more loved in England than in his native America. That's a dam shame!!

    Robert Olidge

    Berlinlover1917 where you hear that

    zaodizao

True , Europe has a recognition for real music & England in particular

    Berlinlover1917

@zaodizao I had a good record collection of black American music from the 70's

    Daniel Reyes

Your good record collection says nothing about how he was more loved in England than America. Fact is he is truly loved here in the USA. Don't spread false rumors.

    Traveling man

Rarely do you see Black folks at his concerts also! That's a greater shame! I have seen some walk out after he sang his hits and while he started playing guitar. Hell I went just to hear him play guitar and Im thinking wth is wrong with folks.

  88. Mullah Osk

This is my first foray into George Benson.
    really quite cool

  89. Antoine Beck

    This one is flying..

    nickthekiller3

Antoine, is flying and it's cooking, son. I bought this back in 1983 on vinyl. It's long gone, but I still consider it one of my best music buys ever. Glad to see it's still held up after all these years.
