Baffled how so many B&S fans don't like this song. It may be a departure but they've still managed to get it so right. There hasn't been a better band since the Pixies. Shame such quality comes around so rarely in these days of chronic talent deficit

This song sucks ass. The only thing that's catchy is the girl's chorus. The guy's voice sucks, the lyrics are bland, and the points at which he makes his voice high-pitched is even worse. Their sound mixing is also bad and imbalanced.

Eh... like the old Belle & Sebastian better. This is way too 1980's or the 2012 crappy revival of the 80's.

In high school, there was this kind of shy boy who was crushing on me hard. after a while I started to like him back, but this line - "Poor boy, I could never live up to your imagination" is exactly what i was thinking, as I started to realize that he viewed me differently from who i actually was. He just had this idea of me which he had created in those 3 years, and never really got to know me as I am. I sometimes still think about what would have happened if he had been just a little bit less shy around me.

The video is a nice homage to the Windows in the West painting, but B&S's electro-dance stuff doesn't do it for me.
Especially when it's this polished and over-produced.
I suppose my reference point is growing up with their 90s/early 2000 music which was melancholic and had a lot of emotional depth to it.
This just seems like a nice-sounding throwaway you'd heard on the radio while getting your hair cut, and then instantly forget about it.

i think The Life Pursuit was the perfect midway point between this over-polishedness and the meek whispering and playing of the earliest stuff. Amazing album.

I'm asian and I've experienced racism since I came in Canada. Maybe not as much a blacks or arabs, but I know what I'm talking about.
Constantly finding wrongs over small problems like today's so-called cultural appropriation, especially in the western world, isn't something I find important to fight about.
You're stressing over small things that can only make the world more divided. Our society is a melting pot, not a bento box. I hope you get what I want you to understand and stop being so agressive towards others who don't share your views.

if it's not important to you then why are youc ommenting on it. some of us want to make the world better and some of us feel hurt by appropriation. you dont speak for all people of color and especially not for latinx or black people. it's not a bad thing to critique, it's a great skill that makes us better people. i love melting pots, but this video not including many people of color at all and yet taking some of their "traits" is not a good example of that.

How can you assume that it'll make the world better? Who says that YOU'RE speaking for all people of colors? I have many many friends who are minorities, yet I'm pretty sure they won't care about this "problem".
When you see cultural appropriation everywhere, even when it's not intended to be negative and is, in the contrary, a way to appreciate the other culture, all it does is divide our society even more.

Belle and Sebastian is a pretty stereotypical white band, it is up to them to choose how they'd like their video to be. Nobody ever gets angry over non-white bands who only portrays non-white people in their videos and that's okay.

Also, these braids are not entirely "black", french braids are similar and come from Algeria. We've also seen Greeks and Chinese with these braids a long time ago.

Forced righteousness/justice won't make the world a better place, it is invasive and will only worsen the already racists' perception of people of colors and justice seekers.

When I listened to B&S in the 90s, they sounded like something from the 60's-70s. Now they sound very 80s. In 15 years, will they sound like something from the 90s, which is what they were purposely aiming to avoid sounding like when they started?
