the chorus is amazing... but what is the kissed by fire reference?

The narrator is wondering if he can still grow up into something big, what he was meant to be, despite his past mistakes. Kissed by fire may be a reference to the sunlight shining on the acorn to make it grow, the light of God shining on the narrator to give him strength. That's my understanding :)

+davecoreproductions after doing some digging the kissed by fire reference mean to be lucky. so i came to it being lost and alone but no matter how bad things may be they can turn out great.

Some types of trees release pods that when engulfed in a forest fire, release their seeds. The ashes after a fire are fertile grounds for those seeds. In this way, the tree comes back from destruction. Powerful stuff.

Can someone explain why they write God as "G-d" to me? I don't know a whole lot about these guys other than what I saw them play at warp tour this year. Also what Joel's talking about in this piece.

@Mac Cavanah He isn't new. He's new to doing cleans for BAAO but I think he's always been the guitarist and just recently did cleans on this record. 
He does a pretty decent job on Lexquisite Douleur.

He IS new, they used to have a different one. This guy (Michael McGough) used to be in The Elijah and he joined BAAO and recorded How We Both Wondrously Perish with them. The guitars even sound a lot different than they did on Dear G-d.

I didn't know that I knew he looked familiar and the way the guitars sound differently in this album is they had someone come in and help them make it even more you know amazing. 

+Topher Hailey no he was new for this record , he joined for this record but he was the singer guitar player for a amazing bad called the Elijah check them out if you have never heard of them.

I still don't know about the cleans; its not that they don't necessarily fit well with the song(s) but it just sounds too "generic" for a band that always seems to be breaking conventions and doing entirely unique things with their music. That being said, I'm definitely buying the album--the lyrical beauty and incredible instrumentals just make that a given. I hope the new vocals grow on me, though, and I think they will.

Exactly what I thought when I first heard it!

To my ears in sounds less of a listener vibe and more like he just completely ripped off listener's style and that kind of weird groove that Dan always speaks in. It sounded like he was literally just trying to sound exactly like him. 

They should just tour together. then we shall see.
