+Marcis Palsins This song is about a friend of Joel's that went on a police ride along on Christmas eve. Unfortunately they had to respond to a murder scene of a man who murdered his little 5 year old girl. (I can hardly write this without crying) that is why the lyrics mention "blood on the presents" "blood on the tree" "blood on her dress" It represents the ultimate form of child abuse in keeping with the theme of many songs on the album. Possibly how things could have turned out for "Little Richie" when he grew up, had he not found his way out. The song paints the scene very vividly starting with the suspect in the police car and then moving forward through the murder scene. The person running from the scene trying not to vomit, has just come out of the house where the murder took place. I must tell you the first couple times I listened to this track I just sat there after it was over and I was speechless. Can't really express it fully. I hope this helps you understand a little more about the heart of Joel and all the members of this incredible band.

Sins of the Father is EPIC in every sense of the word. One of the themes of this album is stopping the cycle of generational abuse and violence. God how I love this band! They really are deep, pulling my heart out of my chest.

Hell no it doesn't.

They not as spoken word driven as la dispute, a bit more aggressive on the emotions.

@Alex Wilson the only thing that's similar to la dispute is the storytelling aspect of the song, but that's it. There's no musical similarity and the song structure is more regular (and I don't mean that as a bad thing to either band) than what la dispute usually do.
