Being As An Ocean - Glow Lyrics

There can be so much tragedy in a smile
Such desperation in embrace
We all ache for a taste of humanity
As the widow, for one last glimpse of her beloved's face
We all ache

We all long for security
Sanctuary, belonging
What then prompts the heart of stone
Often the object of overlooked affections
To slash and burn
Before the harvest reaps what was sewn
To look half-themselves in the eyes
See the scars on their skin
And continue to not pay fucking attention

Like street lamps, we glow so dim
Like four walls, you've shut me in
("This is a dream, and in dreams, you can do anything you darn please!")

(I can't stop paying attention!)
Like street lamps, we glow so dim
Shattered people, shatter hopes
Like four walls, you've shut me in
Don't be misery's company

ni em tuhs ev'uoy ,sllaw ruof ekiL

If only more of us would choose to look back
Contemplate those springs of youth
Recollections of laughter
Recall that sense of wonder, when nothing else seemed to matter
Time has a funny way of coercion
Tricks us into thinking that our past dreams
We're only passing lunacies, better scattered to the wind
Lamenting "I'll never love like my first, though I've forgotten their kiss
I'll never truly be happy, though I can't remember the joys of heaven"
I can't stop paying attention
I swear I'll keep remembering!

Like street lamps, we glow so dim
Due to the shade in which we're placed
Like four walls, you've shut me in
Homes were never meant to be prisons!

So every time I pick up a mic
I pray my words only serve to remind
This life is what we make of it
Though we can feel so trapped in our own minds
From every morning's breath, we can choose
End the cycles of self abuse
I'll embrace the vulnerable
I'll embrace the broken

We can only know what we're shown
And I know that Love is worth the risk
Blood is thicker than the water of the womb
Let me kiss the scars on your wrists
And no matter who has told you differently…
You are worth everything
You are worth everything

  21. Alvin Åkesson

Hm... May contain traces of Anberlin... Sounds a bit like one of their songs from the "Lowborn" Album Record. If you ignore the growl-screams, that is. :P

  23. Mindy Shiver

    Carlinhos Rosa

  25. Daniel Green

These guys always hit me hard in the feels

  26. Patrick Brogley

Love the album, this song, and black and blue are exceptional, been a fan since the beginning; I definitely dig some of the electronics too. My opinion is to stay true to your roots, Dear G-d is still on the top of my list. Not thrilled with the curse word either; nonetheless you guys are crushing it🤙

  27. Portrait Salt

I haven't listened to every song on the album yet but this one is my favourite.
I'm not sold on the vocals from Joel, but the screaming is soooooooooo goooddddd I love listening to this song when I'm doing anything at all it makes it so much more cool lol

  28. Thalles2606

    3:50 Best part!!

  29. Dan McCurdy

"We can only know what we are shown, but I know that love is worth the risk, blood is thicker than the water of the womb, let me kiss the scars on your wrist, and no matter who has told you differently, you are worth everything, you are worth everything."

The lyrics are beautiful in this song

  30. cap'n argent

I see a lot of people complaining about The Powers That Be yet its one of the best tracks on the album??? REVERSE THE SONG IN AUDACITY AND LISTEN TO IT, smh

    Nero

I did reverse it but smh it isn't a song lol

    Josue Delgado

Find the reverse on YouTube, it's powerful man.

    Matt Emery

I dont think the complaints are that its a bad song its that they should have just issued the album with both versions (reversed & Normal) and i dont personally think this but i do think its a fair complaint to call it abit pretentious.

  31. Blank Hotline

    Essa música é linda!

  32. Olympe Jewels

    You are worth everything <3

  33. Daniel Narvaez Lasarte

    Thanks peter for that !!!!

  34. Metal Jr.

The best song in this album

  35. Joseph Hernandez

    Damn...

  36. Blair Davis

Best song on the album. Doesn't say much since I only enjoyed 4 of them but... yeah. I really enjoyed this one

  37. Lambda

Thank you so much guys! I thought "this kind" of music is something from the past to me, but you passion in this one is quite a remedy for an old fan! Thank you!

  38. Sam M

At first I was very skeptical of this album. Now I wish I could say I regret having those thoughts, but that would be nothing but a lie. I wanted to like it, but the unnecessary cursing words just made me drop any hope I had. Normally I wouldn't mind cursing, but this time it hurts as Joel was almost an idol to me. His Christian beliefs inspired me, but now it doesn't feel right. I don't feel like I recognize this band anymore.
Might be dramatic but that's how I feel.
I'm sorry but I'm jumping ship. The band I once loved lost its meaning to me.

    Mason Fults

Samuel Muñoz I don't really like this album either but not for reasons you're talking about. They just aren't the same band as when we started liking them. They changed. They fucking know that, and so does everyone else...

    Matt Townend

Yeah this album sucks because it's not hardcore anymore not because it says fuck.

    FollowDrunKin

No way you can simply speak in a proper language nowadays without using curse words such as fuck or shit. There is many other christian bands that does the same Memphis May Fire for example, losing the meaning of a band that you once loved is kinda dumb tbh just cause of a curse word. BAAO is and will always be one of the most inspirational bands with the biggest influence in life to people with health issues. The speeches they drop live regarding suicide and mental issues are heartwarming and breathtaking.

    Sendermane

Samuel Muñoz just words my man, live on

    Jacob

I'm with you Samuel. I got into these guys shortly before they announced this album and while there was only one thing that I really disagreed with lyrically (the concept of universal salvation on If They're Not Counted, Count Me Out), I also found a lot of good doctrine in it as well... but not only is the music of this album just sub-par to me (not horrible, just not the same level of greatness), but the swearing REALLY turned me off. I'm not saying that swearing makes you non-Christian, as I know of plenty of genuine Christians that do swear. But as a Christian who chooses NOT to swear (among other unwholesome language that I do my best to keep out of my vocabulary), I don't particularly enjoy hearing it. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person who questioned their use of foul language in this but I'm glad I'm not.

Also, MMF doesn't swear in their music. Not sure if that's what FollowDrunKin was implying but they don't. Maybe the members do outside of the music but the music itself is fully clean. And all I can say is that I DO speak in proper language nowadays without using a single swear word. The crudest word I ever use is "crap". And even then, swearing really does show a lack of ability to form proper sentences. I can express passion in my own poetry without using a single swear word because I choose to find a better way to express it, and it almost always comes out in a much more passionate way than it would if I just started dropping f-bombs.

  39. Jordan Weir

This is ART. Anyone giving these boys issues, think again.

    Resifreak

you know, while I agree with your comment (this IS art etc.) you ironically show the OPPOSITE of what the song and the band preaches. Wishing someone who disagrees with you etc. fucking death while playing in the traffic... that is weak dude. Weak and sad.

    Jordan Weir

Resifreak ... Noted and fair point. Comment edited. Although I understand that you took the comment quite literally, maybe have a look into what ‘figures of speech’ are. It may lighten the weight of words for you next time. Cheers

  40. xPBKM4x

    NEW ALBUM YES!!!!!!!

  41. CROOKEDYOUNG

Bass drum from 2:03 till 2:17 is so satisfying.

    Jordan Weir

CROOKEDYOUNG .... Nailed it ! Absolutely brilliant

    Martijn Stynen

Especially if you bass boost it

  42. BMO Blood

  43. Little sock over me ghostly tail

I'm so fucking inlove with this song

  44. Music_is _life_36

im really questioning if this album went unfinished or somethin went wrong with the label regarding money....

    Michael Sparks

luis gonzalez this is an indie album

  45. Stevac

So nice Joel is singing on this album.

    Liam Berry

yeah man I met him in person where I live after the band played their show he is such a nice dude

  46. C Trusz

Okay.. the spoken word at the end saved it because it was epically beautiful, but I'm feeling a strong lack of guitar riffs w this album so far.. all rythym, no lead?

    Dick Baguette

C Trusz who said guitar riffs are required?

  47. Ripple

    Enter Shikari gone Melodic Hardcore

    Charlie Crooner

Holy shit you're right! I miss Take To The Skies ES :'(

    no you're beautiful @cliqo

    Kosta

Reading this after one year made me cry.. Thank you <3

  50. Aram R/A

Along with "OK" and "Dissolve" these are the only good songs on the whole album. Almost half of the album is instrumental. The rest have like a modern rap beat feel to it. And a reversed song. Been a fan since "Dear G-d" and will continue to be. I've never said this about one of their albums but I'm disappointed.

    Alessandro Natale

the whole album is an experience, like an abstract impression... it's a very mature and self-conscious piece of art created by few beautiful minds that closed the rusty door of the past, and it's hardly understandable; i personally really appreciate this. I like to see it metaphorically as a little and quiet sphere of peace, purity and tranquillity surrounded by the darkness of the deepest chaos and anger trying to set in. It's been a true emotion to me. Love from Italy. -... .- .- ---

    Vagrant Ender

Sorry "thorns" would like to speak with you

    Vagrant Ender

And this album is a masterpiece in it's entirety. Less songs need to have vocals to show off the other talent in the band.

    Asparagus

    Alessandro Natale what

    Philip Slayton

You must have been sleeping while listening to thorns.

  51. Wade Wilson

Probably my favorite song from the album. Hope the wll perform it live!

    RedEye

they did perform this song live here in germany so there is a good chance you will hear this song live too (if you havnt already)

    Wade Wilson

Jep. Was in Berlin. They played it and it was freaking amazing.
