When I first heard this, I thought this was among the Bee Gees' weakest singles, culminating with Barry Gibb growling, "He's a liar!" While it certainly doesn't rank among their classics (never showing up on the usual "Best of" compilations), this song has grown on me and I think musically it's excellent. By 1981, with the music landscape vastly different than 1979, the brothers seemed willing to adapt and try some different sounds, including this one that had a much grittier edge. All in all, it's meant to be an angry song and they show how they could write and sing in many different styles and do it well.

Within 5 decades of BG,s music they changed their "tune "a lot. Only prove of a very creative mind (minds in this case) They did not repeat themselves over and over again,

The album was not one of their favorites. They were making this either during their lawsuit against Sir Robert Stigwood and RSO or shortly after. It was a really bad time for them.


To be fair, though, "Living Eyes" did make history. The first CD ever made to demo the format was that album. Unfortunately, it was never released officially on CD anywhere else but Japan, certainly not in the US...

AFAIK, the only "Best Of" collection this ended up on was the "Tales from the Brothers Gibb" box set.

Paradise should be single instead this.

Living eyes have so many songs that could be sucessful singles, i think that Paradise will be a soft rock ballad hit.

@Neita James I doubt it somehow. This was one of their absolute worst periods. They were at the beginning of their blackout period, and they were either in the middle of or at the beginning of their lawsuit against RSO Records which went bankrupt a couple years later. I really do believe one of the reasons the album tanked was not only was it not one of their best, but RSO all but sabotaged it as far as promotion was concerned.
