Beck, Jeff - Hi-Ho Silver Lining Lyrics

You're everywhere and nowhere, baby
thats where you're at
Going down a bumpy hillside
In your hippy hat
Flying across the country
And getting fat
Saying everything is groovy
When your tyres are flat

And its hi - ho silver lining
and away you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss
Though it's obvious

Flies are in your pea soup baby
They're waving at me
Anything you want is yours now
Only nothing's for free
Lies are gonna get you some day
Just wait and see
So open up your beach umbrella
While you're watching TV

And its hi - ho silver lining
and away you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss
Though it's obvious

And its hi - ho silver lining
and away you go now baby
I see your sun is shining
But I won't make a fuss
Though it's obvious

If only Jeff had let Rod do the lead vocal this may be one of the greatest recordings of the 60s. Beck is stunningly good guitarist however he is bad vocalist hence he never really sang again. Also his ego destroyed his best group ever.
Maybe if Jeff had chosen a band name like "Flash & Dash" or anything but Jeff Beck Rod might have stayed. The way it was going one big ego wasn't gong to stay in the shadow of another for long. For those that don't know listen closely and you hear Rod Stewarts voice on backing vocals. Yes he was a member of Jeffs band and later recorded a No.1 Album with the Jeff Beck Group as lead vocalist in 1969. Stewart's voice was far more ideal for Rock Blues than anything else......... and that's the TRUTH!

@Bradley Strider I was being punny......... a play using the album name"Truth" also it's very likely that the majority informed opinion would concur.

Naturally a yardbird fan knows about this release/ and the voice and guitar behind the production.
The 45 rpm genre that had yardbird mate Keith Mr Zero Relf recording solo and not to mention truth vocalist sir rod eventually taking solo shots into the spins of the greatest era of rock music unfolding before our ears..

Kinda like the Monkeys, thank God for the Jimi Hendrix Experience! Nice song though.

    K.... L....

Well, have a listen, Jeff Beck "I'm Losing You" BBC Session - 1967. Have a listen The Yardbirds, "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago" (1966). In fact, listen to The Yardbirds, through 1965. They had some classic songs. Also, the band Ten Years After, from the album, "Ten Years After" (1967). Equally, BBC Sessions, 1967. Another UK band, Savoy Brown, and The Pretty Things, had some early stuff. There are other exceptions, numerous, not counting The Beatles etc.. Yet, guessing you already know this.

    K.... L....

@Brad Ley come on man, why are u being sensitive? Btw Jimi was highly inspired by the Yardbirds when he used be in Greenwich Village back in '66. Yeah there's a reason why Jimi Hendrix is a legend just ask Jeff Beck himself.

  12. P.... B....

So apparently Rod Stewart is providing backing vocals. I never knew this but it makes the song a tiny bit more special to me.

  16. M.... G....

I remember hypnotist Tony LeMesma used this song on his stage act....He had people simulating sex to this tune...It was hilarious :D

Jeff's first single after leaving the Yardbirds (Beck's Bolero on the obverse). When this first came out I remember listening to it with Jimmie Vaughan at his home in Oak Cliff, and laughing when the lead break came in. Jimmie said it sounded like a dog barking. We played it over and over for hours. Love this record!

2 years ago today 26th May at 12.26pm this was playing in theatre whilst my baby was being born

    A.... J....

We timed the births of our three kids to songs from the White Album, imagining that we put the album on, in sequence, on an infinite loop the moment we called the ambulance to go to hospital. We then measured the time between call and time of birth and calculated where in the loop would it be. We got a Rocky Racoon, A Sexy Sadie and an Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-Da.

  25. D.... P....

One of my top ten favourite songs. 🔟👌💖

  26. J.... C....

Monster of a guitar solo.. one of the finest of all time, only wish I could play it.

    J.... C....

it's two guitar solos, laid over each other - but Beck couldn't repeat them exactly, so there's a lot of cool sounding dissonance between the two layers. In 1995, Guitar World had a poll for the best and worst guitar solos of all time - HHSL got as many votes in worst as it did best!

    J.... C....

@Shane Wright That's interesting. Why do you suppose Guitar World had it on the worst list too? Maybe it was a rebuke of the dissonance, but as you point out the dissonance was cool sounding. Personally I might give it a vote for one of the best of all time, but there are a lot of Jeff Beck solos that would get votes from me.

    J.... C....

Yes, I think you're right and that the majority of responders in the negative didn't know the story behind the song. Like most things voted "best" or :worst", the truth is it is, in fact, far from either.
