It comes to something when even taxi drivers won't go there at night, or during the day for that matter. My mums friend who I called "Auntie Jen" gave some sound advice. If you want to know if you shouldn't move to an area find out if taxi drivers refused to go there. If they did don't move there :-D

I have never had one refuse to go to Toxteth, though I tended to walk home the park end of Prinny Avenue wasn't that far from the city center, never had one refuse to go to Collyhurst (too decrepit to do that walk nower days). Damn even before I moved to Mancland I used to stay with a friend and he lived in Moss Side in the mid 90s and no taxi driver refused to take me there.

I even remember before I moved to Toxteth I mentioned I was moving there to others in the student halls. Their response was "Where the riots where? Are you sure that is a good idea?". My response started with "Those were fourteen effing (cleaned up for public viewing) years ago and I was 6 at the time...." :-)

I was born and bred in Manchester, still live there. And it's the Best city to live in, not many run down council estates left. And the majority of people are lovely warm and friendly. Yes there's the minority of idiots, but thankfully not many. But the communities are strong and they do welcome people from outside. Don't be quick to believe all the bad hype and bullshit you might hear or read about, because for the majority of it, it's simply not true, there's nowhere near as much violence and crime as you find in other big City's like London, Birmingham Glasgow etc
