Beach Boys - It's A Beautiful Day Lyrics

OOOOOOOOOW
Livin' down in L.A.
Such A Beautiful day

Whoa whoa
Whoa whoa

The skies are clear
It's a beautiful day in l.a.

People in motion
Our wheels movin all kind a ways

Indoors, outdoors, in the sun
There are people everywhere havin' fun, fun, fun

And when the moon and stars come out at night
We'll know what to do when we turn out the lights (turn out the lights, out the lights)

The freeways there are jammed with all kind of folks on their bikes
With fastball surfers, their all doin' their lefts and their rights

Roller skating, joggin', or a fancy bike
You can get around most anyway you really like

And when the sun is down and the stars are bright
I can hardly wait to get to hold you tight (hold you tight, hold you tight)

OOOOOOOOOOOh
Living down in L.A.
Such a Beautiful Day

Whoa, whoa
Whoa, whoa

Riding the fastlanes, and ballet in leisurely flight
People in motion the streets there a beautiful sight

In goodtimes, sunshine, you'll feel alright
We'll maybe even do an afternoon delight

You're sure to get as high as the clouds above
Participatin' in this little dance of love (dance of love, dance of love)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
Living down in L.A.
Such a Beautiful Day

The freeways are jammed now
The cars have disappeared from the scene

Cause' gone to work or to play
They use a whole 'nother kind of machine

OOOOOOOOOOW
Living down in L.A.
Such a beautiful day

Beach Boys It's A Beautiful Day Comments
  1. S.... o....

Awesome song and Mike isn't obnoxious!

  2. N.... S....

The film actually has a pretty damn good soundtrack. This movie introduced me to Elvis Costello.

  3. M.... H....

This had hit record written all over it...why it was never put out as a single I'll never know...Great song...!

  4. L.... ....

Have loved this movie since I first saw it.Great song for a great movie.

  5. D.... T....

This is the same band that recorded Pet Sounds,Holland,Smile...just saying!

  6. A.... S....

Still can't figure out how this song wasn't a huge hit. I've heard other songs from 1979 and this song has them all easily covered.

  7. P.... E....

Thanks for the upload. Can you tell me where I can find this so I can add it to my iPod playlist? I can't believe they did not release it as a single.Would have been a hit I think!

  8. B.... W....

The movie sucked, but the soundtrack had two great songs; "Get a Move On" by Eddie Money and this one. This is one great vocal performance by the boys and features a great lead performance by Al Jardine.

  9. C.... P....

I found this album in a 2nd hand shop for $3.50. Excellent condition.

  10. S.... S....

The back ground vocals & harmonies are frickin AWESOME!!!

  11. o.... ....

myKe luHv ruining yet another song with his bleating. Good song by Al and his singing along with Carl of course.

    o.... ....

how come for someone who appears to dislike mike love you never shut the fuck up about the man? sounds like love to us. hilarious. does smiley smile know your here?

    o.... ....

Haha he's obsessed! He spends his every waking moment sitting on his little laptop making shitty jealous comments about Mike Love online.
Any Beach Boys fan worth his or her salt knows that almost all the negative stories about Mike are bullshit.

  12. W.... ....

OMG, this should have been a hit !!! Loved this song !! --------------Wolfsky9

    W.... ....

I agree! When the movie came out I bought the soundtrack album just for this song. You couldn't get it anywhere else! I just listened to it. I don't think I've heard it in over 30 years!

  13. N.... S....

A very under appreciated song, but not the only good sound from that sndtrk. Elvis Costello has some good songs on it as well.

  14. m.... ....

I sa this movie at the trheater and can't remember one thing about it exept this song. I remember a movie critic giving it a real bad rating but mentioned the Beach boys song was the best they've had in years.

  15. B.... M....

Great song from a great movie.

  16. r.... b....

    who wrote this great tune

    r.... b....

+roy burkhert Mike Love and Al Jardine from The Beach boys

    r.... b....

Al Jardine? Didn't he play flanker-back for the Hawthorne Cougars?

    r.... b....

+lfWolf It's in every BB biography.

  17. t.... ....

I paid $1.50 to see the film when it came out. This song was the best thing about it! The opening narration said, "Now, 40 years and going strong, the Beach Boys!!" Little did they know! In my "Beach Boys 77-80" playlist. Thanks for the upload!

  18. h.... ....

should have stuck it on the Still Crusin album (even though it was somewhat old by then) - it would fit in well - the "theme" of the album was songs from soundtracks - and I don't think the general public was terribly aware of the song - so - new to them (instead of sticking a few 60s songs on like they did........weird....)

    h.... ....

Agree completely. In fact, I made a playlist of my "fantasy" version of the Still Cruisin' album that includes this song as well as "Problem Child", "Chasin' The Sky" (from the movie Up The Creek), "Don't Worry, Baby" (with The Everly Brothers from the film Tequila Sunrise), "East Meets West" (with Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons), "Happy Endings" (with Little Richard) and their cover of Elton John's "Crocodile Rock" from the Two Rooms tribute album.

  19. D.... J....

MY FRIEND JEFF PETERS WAS THE ENGINEER FOR THIS TRACK, IT THE BASIC TRACKS WERE CUT AT MIKE LOVES STUDIO IN SANTA BARBARA 101 MESA LANE, THEN FINISHED AT WALLY HEIDER STUDIO#3 AND SUNSET SOUND STUDIOS!!

    D.... J....

    Thank-you sir !  You said it far better than I could. And, I have this 45, on ABC / Caribou . -----------------Wolfsky9, 69 y/o

  20. M.... ....

I really liked this movie. Dacades later I even bought a recumbent tricycle and later a recumbent bicycle. I've sold those and now get around on a Xootr scooter. I don't really like cars much anymore.

  21. W.... ....

I have this '45, & I'm certain it is incredibly rare. What a shame.  Excellent song !!!   Wolfsky9

    W.... ....

YOUR 45 IS AND EDITED VERSION THIS IS THE FULL ALBUM VERSION AND LESS COMPRESSED AS WELL!!

    W.... ....

In addition to being edited, the 45 is actually recorded to loud. The VU meters must have been going all the way to the right and no one noticed.

  22. W.... ....

Can you imagine the audience's shock had The Boys stopped singin the easy songs, & did this one, " Pitter Patter", " Kona Koast", & " Goin On " ???  4 of my all-time favorites !   The 50th Tour would really have been a true, music surprise !      Wolfsky9, 67 y/o

  23. k.... ....

+terry platt it is on cd on the new box set and it's on iTunes.

  24. t.... p....

Why is this sparkling, cracking mid-70s BBs song STILL not available on CD? Why are the record company keeping it hidden from us? It was hard enough to get hold of here in the UK back in the day - it was only obtainable on an expensive import 7", which I played till I was through to the turntable mat! Come on guys, lease it to Capitol so they can whack it on their next compilation (along with the promised-but-still-not-materialised stereo mix of Good Vibrations). Then the world will be perfect.

    t.... p....

It's on the Made In California box set

  25. B.... ....

I think of this song when I see any disaster film featuring the city of Los Angeles. (2012, Battle: Los Angeles, Volcano, Day After Tomorrow with the tornados, etc...)

    B.... ....

Now THAT would be a funny video.

  26. A.... C....

    I liked the movie.

  27. r.... ....

Are you thinking of "Almost Summer" a side project by Mike Love and Celebration? There's a customized KRTH 101 version of that on MCA. I remember KHTZ playing It's a Beautiful Day to death, especially up to the Top Of The Hour ID.

  28. n.... ....

    movie is boreing, great song.

  29. S.... S....

Yeah, I know!!! Such a great song!!!

  30. S.... S....

    GREAT FRICKIN SONG!!!

  31. W.... ....

This is one I wish The Boys had done this summer. Also, " Pitter Patter & Kona Coast! " all 3 would have been awesome to hear! Wolfsky9

  32. m.... ....

For some reason I was thinking about this song today and here it is in a great format. Thanks for making my day!

  33. t.... ....

I paid $1.50 at a bargain theater to see the movie just so I could hear this song. Thanks for posting -- it's especially hard to find the long version now.

  34. f.... d....

Harvey Korman was funny it could have been better it was ok kinda strange in some ways the Indians wanted the country back unless we paid so they had a telethon lol funny whats kinda scary but China now owns much of the US sadly we may need a Telethon no more Obama

  35. s.... ....

Americathon was a disappointingly medicore movie, but this awesome song saves it from "bad movie" status.

  36. W.... ....

This ought to have been a monster hit for The Boys!! I have the 45, & always wondered why it didn't get airplay. Carl's awesome vocal--OMG, miss him more as the years go by. Wolfsky9

  37. A.... ....

(From IMDB) Sam Birdwater: [in a press conference] God knows I am a patriot. I loaned the country 400 Billion. And I want my 400 Billion back. Does that make me a bad guy? I've got to eat too, you know! So I'm giving the President until the end of September this year to pay me back, or I'll be forced to foreclose. What can I do? I've got to eat too, you know! Does that make me a bad guy?

  38. k.... ....

I will always <3 beach boys!

  39. j.... ....

You are obviously are/once a So Cal native. Back then, it seemed that record companies and radio stations were willing to record customized copies. You would probably need to get that copy from K-Earth 101. Good luck though. Who is willing to release copywritten material these days?

  40. f.... d....

Funny movie the Indians want their land back if we dont pay them so we host a Telethon to save America in this day it would be China yikes but it is funny a good, family film and enjoyable the late John Ritter and Harvey Korman are great as usual

  41. 8.... ....

@linda10989 Google YouTube to MP3, there are a lot of free converters out there, good luck 85.......

  42. J.... ....

oh i adore this song......this should have been a HUGE hit for the guys. the song is perfect. i remember flipping over it as a kid in "79". awesome lyrics, fantastic melody (i love that there are actually 3 different little melodies and all of them are A-1 steak sauce). can't believe this tune never charted. the beach boys are so wonderful. they have so many terrific songs that not enough people have heard.

  43. P.... M....

Like Bladerunner and Saving Silverman, Americathon was bang-on as not only political satire but also prophecy! This is a great song... to what will one day be acknowledged as a cult classic of American film!

  44. s.... ....

The movie is prophetic in many ways: country's going broke, recumbent bicycles, Vietnam's looking good, everybody's wearing Nike...Beach Boys and Elvis Costello. What's not to like?

  45. L.... R....

Does anyone know if there is any way I can download this song onto my mp3??? I can't be the only one who'd like to do that! :)

  46. W.... ....

I still maintain that had Columbia promoted this as they should have, this was a huge hit for The Guys--it's perfectly done, especially Carl's gorgeous vocal. Wolfsky9

  47. S.... D....

i thought it was a cool movie. Costello , Nick Lowe, and a great BB song. thanks

  48. s.... ....

    Wow---this IS the Beach Boys.

I say that because, considering the movie it came from, for years I assumed it was a well-crafted parody.
