Beach Boys - Can't Wait Too Long Lyrics

Been too long

I miss you darling
I miss you so hard

I miss you darling
I miss you so hard

Miss you so hard
Now
(Miss you darling)
Come back baby
And don't break my heart
How it goes

And now I'm alone lying down
Looking up at the stars
(Stars)
Relivin' the
Relivin' the times we shared when the moon the stars and the music was all

Been way too long
Been way too long baby
Way too long
Been way too long baby
Way too long
I can't wait too long baby
Way too long
I can't wait too long baby
Way too long
I can't wait too long baby
Way too long
I can't wait too long baby
Way too long
I can't wait too long baby
Way too long
I can't wait too long baby

Baby you know that I
Can't wait forever
Awoke in the night again
We were together
Windows of darkness are
All I can see through
Searching the shadows
Hoping to see you
Baby you know that I
Can't wait forever
Awoke in the night again
We were together
Baby you know that I...

  1. d.... ....

    such a good edit

  2. K.... H....

Amazing ,too advanced for its day. Even today nothing sounds like this .

  3. S.... ....

The closest the beach boys ever got to sounding like Pink Floyd.

    S.... ....

SFloridaMike As if they were comparable, Beach Boys had more soul and spirit to them even at their lowest

    S.... ....

    @Thorne LOL.

  4. R.... K....

I love when he creates these grooves.

  5. Y.... d....

That killer base line... to think that this genius track was burried for decades like a throwaway.

  6. J.... C....

HEDY did you assemble this if so well done if not where can i find it - brilliant

  7. b.... f....

thanks for the space scenes. so appropriate. this song, even though unfinished is just so wild it’s beautiful like the sky that changes or a field of wildflowers blowing in the wind. just brilliant

  8. M.... V....

    me dejo llevar..

  9. b.... ....

Can only give one like. This doesn't work. This song gets 1000+ likes from me.

  10. E.... M....

    Too good

  11. B.... M....

The title is me waiting for the beach boys' concerts XD. This song and band is AMAZING!!!!

    B.... M....

If you were seeing the actual Beach Boys band (Mike's), you wouldn't be close to the genius who wrote this

  12. I.... M....

    Parece un Mantra

    I.... M....

Yes. Songs are about patterns, rhythms and repetition.

  13. A.... C....

Where was this version of the song originally released? Good vibrations box set or something else?

    A.... C....

"Twofer" CD release of Smiley Smile + Wild Honey

    A.... C....

    @Jorge Malcher Thanks!

  14. C.... ....

  15. T.... W....

Carl singing lead in the latter part of the song.

  16. j.... d....

    Amazing, wonderfull.......

  17. j.... M....

I first heard this back in 2001, being introduced to the lesser known BB tracks by a beach boys nut, So glad I found it!............still love it today, its magical

  18. M.... H....

    That change @3:43 is amazing

  19. K.... H....

So uniquely beautiful. I love the muted piano effected.

  20. J.... B....

Should have made a great single out of the first 40 seconds and scrapped the rest

  21. m.... ....

Anyone else find the video extremely uncomfortable to look at?

  22. J.... F....

    holy holy holy

    J.... F....

...is the Lord God almighty who is and was and is to come.

  23. l.... b....

Go the better off we will be.

  24. l.... b....

    The further out we

  25. m.... y....

The section from 1:14 to 1:53 is signature Brian with a thousand musical question marks resolved by the end of the phrase and repeated! So much content in that one spot!

  26. c.... ....

"Brian sings lead" - Huh? - there is no lead, none to speak of.  Sure you can hear Brian (and Bruce & Carl) variously, but the main drawback to CWTL is that it never got a lead vocal at the time (even after a couple postponed attempts).  So outside of the chant we don't know what the words are.  My personal wild guess is that Brian had somebody (outside of Mike Love) for lyricwriting that he couldn't persuade then

  27. l.... a....

    Unbelievably great song
    Way ahead of the times

    l.... a....

Just like everything else Brian wrote.

  28. m.... ....

This would be the lead track on a Beach Boys White Album

  29. M.... H....

Beautiful track!! Reminds me bit of Nilsson( another brilliant human being)!!!!

  30. J.... ....

this is music of THE SPHERES...Thank you so much Brian Wilson / Beach Boys!

  31. y.... ....

One of his best songs alongside God Only Knows. It's such an amazingly creative work of art.

  32. W.... G....

Sounds good on Brian's new album

  33. A.... M....

I was listening to this yesterday in the car while stick on horrible Auckland traffic. Sweet as a nut. Made the sun come out.

  34. s.... c....

this fragment of genius could blossom into a 100 more songs and more fragments of genius..and so on..

  35. D.... B....

    Incredible.

  36. a.... ....

Only now I realize where Supertramps come from....

  37. A.... W....

what an incredible piece of pop.

  38. g.... a....

Magia Pura, Brian Wilson es un genio

  39. J.... P....

It sounds like Brian's singing all the parts.

  40. J.... M....

still the most magnificent unfinished pop song of all time.

    J.... M....

    not really.

    J.... M....

I am so bored with people who use the words "best of all time" They must be very uncertain inside. I forgive them.

    J.... M....

La mejor canción y es infinita

    J.... M....

@Lorenzo Parolin I found this song because I recently got the Smiley/Honey CD edition.

    Just great

    J.... M....

Really my quintessential favorite piece of BB's music, for some reason I just love it

  41. I.... ....

Holy cow there's the Wind Chimes bassline

    I.... ....

Which version of Wind Chimes, Smiley Smile, original SMiLE or Brian's SMiLE?

    I.... ....

both the Brian SMiLE and the SMiLE sessions

  42. A.... B....

Who is the creep who is trying to dominate the conversation? May he will get a life one day. This is a beautiful song. Somehow this guy was able to dislike this post 7 times.

  43. S.... g....

    This is just magical.

  44. f.... g....

temaso, que cerebro de este tio.

    f.... g....

+fredy guzman pura hierbita... para herbir esas neuronas.....y producir musica celestial ... Aleluyah

  45. b.... ....

I would love to know what was in Brian Wilson's head for musical ideas in late 1966/early to mid 1967. This song is merely a skeleton,I wonder what would've bloomed had he continued with it.

    b.... ....

Pepe Lomeli Cervera? Brian Wilson had a severe drug problem...and if you think singing the same verse over and over ad infinitum is musical genius you should get some drugs for yourself.

    b.... ....

i think he had a self esteem problem, a very hard childhood and the auditory hallucinations. (He still listens voices and sounds according to wikipedia btw)
This song is just a "made up of several different takes on the same song", don't you read the description?
Don't you heard that beautiful musical changes in the whole Pet Sounds and Smile album and the most beautiful, lovefull and conscious lyrics?
"The severe drug problem" as you say it, just opened his perception of reality to make some of the most beautiful compositions ever, and of course increased his metal condition.
So when you say that he sang the same verse over and over, what do you mean? i dont know and i dont interested on what you hear but this legendary & genius producer has many many beautiful and uniques variations on his music.

    b.... ....

We all know Brian had a drug problem, but you may be on some stuff of your own. The comment you are replying to references Brian's brilliance before drugs (and Mike Love) got in the way. The whole point of this track is that it IS unfinished, thus there are many parts and repeat patterns. Musicians do that sort of thing sometimes, they go where the song seems to take them. Had this been finished it would doubtless have been compressed and reduced in length. Brian's genius is based upon the beautiful music that he actually completed and the potential of what else might have been. Having an unfinished track with an admittedly oft-repeated chorus doesn't diminish his brilliance one little bit.

    b.... ....

yeah the amount of music and the quality is just outstanding. and we’re all still listening to it. unbelievable. i’ve been listening to it since i was 6 years old in the 60s. It’s the last thing i want to hear. carl’s voice singing brian’s music

    b.... ....

He couldn't though, not to a genius standard anyway.

    He fried his Brain.
    Poor, poor Brian.

  46. J.... E....

Love to take you up on that, my nameless friend. As soon as I can find the right guys to be in my band, I surely will. But you probably wouldn't like it anyhow if you still like the song I criticized.

  47. J.... E....

That's two from Thomas. Now it's your turn to shut up.

  48. t.... ....

    Brilliant

  49. J.... E....

Okay then. Why didn't they call it a rough cut? Didn't the boys ever think that if it appears on Youtube, it's going to be subject to a little public scrutiny.

    J.... E....

They always stated this, along with most of the tracks from Smile, weren't complete.
I don't think Brian particularly cares that the unfinished tracks are scrutinized on Youtube, at any rate there's not much he can do about it.....even the bare bones of these songs show his absolute genius, so I don't think it really matters.

  50. J.... K....

    2:54 can't tell who's harmonizing with brian

    J.... K....

+Jimmy K Maybe Al but I'm not sure at all.

    J.... K....

+Jimmy K It's tough to tell because Brian and Al almost sound identical at times. But I think it's Brian overdubbing himself.

    J.... K....

+Jon Mast I'm fairly certain it's Al. The part when they say "been way", It really sounds like it's Al lol.

    J.... K....

I really doubt it - by this time Brian was doing his own thing and the rest of the Beach Boys were doing theirs. And frankly it sounds like Brian overdubbing ALL parts

  51. T.... J....

This song was re-visited by Brian Wilson on his solo album Lucky Old Sun

    T.... J....

    I agree big time!

    T.... J....

    +Tim Jackson
Good God, my copy is still sealed. I thought the one that preceded that (Your Imagination) was truly lousy, so I never bothered with it - although I did see the tour for L.O.S. and noticed that a snippet of this song showed up, which I thought was pretty neat.

    T.... J....

+Christopher Thomas Gettin' In Over My Head and SMiLE preceded Lucky Old Sun. Brian finished SMiLE in 2004. Imagination was a bad period according to Brian.

    T.... J....

Have you listened to the song "Cry" on the "Your Imagination" album? I think it is both one of Brian's most beautiful and pain filled songs in one......

  52. R.... K....

In my stumble opinion this is more a mantra than a song, a few simple chords that seem to repeat, to go on forever. The mantra then would be about "cannot wait long enough". The longing itself.  Time.  Smile has been shelved, BW has arisen. He's welcome.
Not a reply to JimE, neither meant to be replied by

  53. J.... E....

Mantra or chantra, don't tell our politicians or they may  try to use songs like this as a brainwashing technique to win votes in our upcoming federal election. I hear that the boys (or their replacements) are coming to my town to do a show at the end of the month. I'd better not hear any mantras and I'll bet they'll just do their early stuff.

  54. J.... E....

Sounds like my friend Ru wants me to conform to the norm. Or what? Thank you for your opinion.

  55. D.... P....

NASA should beam this song into space.

    D.... P....

Tienes razón. Esta canción es espacial.

    D.... P....

    agreed!

    D.... P....

The aliens would finally make contact with us. Their message would be "Tell space brother Brian to finish this great song!"

  56. J.... E....

Thanks for the challenge Rhymeo. I can and have written many songs and recorded a few when I could afford to. But I write them the way the Beach Boys used to, not this lame Youtube example of the tune the old cow died on. If you like that kind of music, I'm sure you wouldn't care for my style at all. I've just done a quick rewrite of Can't Wait Too Long in the early Beach Boys style and I'm happy with it already. I don't know about mumsy since she kicked off a while back. I think the boys are also out of business one way or another  as well. But if you hear that any of their replacements are looking for new material, let me know because I have it.

    J.... E....

+Jim Ervin Dare you to upload some of your material to Soundcloud or Youtube Jim & give us all a taste of what Brian & the boys could have been.

  57. J.... E....

I heard it once more to confirm my earlier criticizms. I guess it's a case of if you can't say anything nice, you shouldn't say anything at all. But those boys waited much too long on this one. It's definitely past it's prime. Oh darn, there I go again.

  58. J.... E....

The song wasn't released for obvious reasons to me. I can and do write songs which I think are better than that. But I guess music is all a matter of personal opinion. I actually used to be a big Beach Boys fan.  I have all or most of their original LPs. I even went to see them when they first came to my town. The Chiffons were the opening act. Would you believe 1963?

    J.... E....

@Jim Ervin But can you & do you write songs that OTHER PEOPLE think are better than that? Your Moms opinion doesn't count btw.

    J.... E....

I don't think you meant anything you said except for the 2nd and 3rd sentences. I also don't think you should say things like that to a community of Brian Wilson fans.

    J.... E....

+Jim Ervin Hahaha yes the world-renowned Jim Ervin everybody, the musician who writes better songs and melodies than Brian Wilson! Form an orderly queue, hordes of adoring fans! Please, girls, one at a time - he can only sign so many autographs at once...

    J.... E....

I'm so Damn Proud that My Mom and Dad Raised Me to be A Legend Icon and Peon from likes of People such as The Beach Boys The Beetles The Rolling Stones Chuck Berry Johnny Cash Vicki Lawrence and Dolly Parton I'm in Their League.

  59. N.... R....

i always return back to this one.... especially that guitar break at the end.

    N.... R....

Yes,it makes my hair stand on end, brilliant production and playing

    N.... R....

Nicole Reber Totally! That guitar is sublime toward the end. Just when you think its going to fade out....bam! The vocal after it. Ahhhh what a wonderful piece of music.

    N.... R....

    Two completely different songs.

  60. J.... E....

I'm smart enough not to need a song title repeated 5,000 times before I understand it. That stinks and it bores me. But on the positive side, I suppose it's no worse than many other late 60's-70's songs. Where's my friend Brian?

    J.... E....

@Jim Ervin You literally came to a video for song that was never even officially released just to post negative feedback 3 separate times over the span of a few months. Is there turmoil in your life?

    J.... E....

@Jim Ervin It's suppose to be "way too long."

    J.... E....

@WookieeWarrior Actually he did it 4 times!

    J.... E....

Sure do Miss this World with Deep People...MTV Shallows doesn't Belong here?

  61. J.... E....

Big laugh. What are you supposed to be, a genius?

    J.... E....

@Jim Ervin this song was never officially released so its not simplified. I'd love to see you write a better peice

    J.... E....

This does kinda Reminds Me of a Horizon when I look Up into The Sky In the Clouds Stars Rain Snow Sun Dark Vest Blue and Heavens.

  62. E.... M....

If you like this you'll want to check out the Ultra Smile '67

  63. J.... E....

Is that the kind of music a genius likes? It's just a collection of sounds and repetitive words to me. Those guys went too far all over the map for me.

    J.... E....

    @Jim Ervin You're not a genius.

    J.... E....

no, Brian is. you're an idiot

    J.... E....

+Jim Ervin If you interpret this rough cut like that, then perhaps you are ignoring the fact that is a piece that is nowhere near completion. It is simple instrumental fragments, with some of those accompanied by background vocals. Lead vocals were never recorded.

    J.... E....

+Jim Ervin You only have to comment on a post once, mate, not over and over again. I mean, yeah, it's blatantly apparent from your posts that - as a wannabe musician - you're insanely jealous of Brian Wilson's success and talent, but we all got that the first time: you don't have to keep re-posting comments...

    J.... E....

Both of You are...Idiots so Shut Up

  64. s.... s....

Love this little old hypnotic song/tune,although there is nothing little about the harmonies and ideas in this....

  65. C.... F....

This is such a brilliant piece of immediate post-SMiLE work---it never fails to bring a smile (I promise you there was no pun intended! );D) to my face when I hear it. I just get lost in the beautiful melody and wish that it had appeared on a contemporary album so that more people could have heard it in its prime. But no matter...the fact that it exists and that it's here to enjoy forever is MORE than enough! Thank you, Brian. <3

  66. j.... d....

    great great great!!!!!!!!
my favorite song of "Génius Brian" for ever

  67. B.... S....

Gotta say, although I realize that Smile and Pet Sounds have their superb moments, Heroes and Villians, Good Vibrations, Wouldn't It Be Nice, and so on-the real Brian Wilson masterwork is The Beach Boys Today!  Half a Beach Boys lp, half a solo LP-but in the 5 songs on the second side, you really see Brian Wilson at his best.  And side one is loaded with some of the very best single type stuff they ever did.  To me, that is their masterwork.

    B.... S....

Wow Barry , I've always thought the exact same thing!

    B.... S....

My personal favorite album (: side two is fantastic

    B.... S....

Somehow I've never listened to that one though I love this one and Pet Sounds. Based on what I've just read I'm listening to that one next.

    B.... S....

"Do You Wanna Dance?" with Dennis' great lead vocal is a badass opener for the album too! The production has that feel to it that Brian was evolving toward Pet Sounds.

  68. u.... ....

The bass is playing the bass notes of Wind Chimes. So wonderful

    u.... ....

Which version of Wind Chimes do you mean? Smiley Smile, original SMiLE or Brian's SMiLE

    u.... ....

The original Smile version. It is there staring you in the face at the end. Brian had lots of link pieces which could fit almost anywhere. That was one of them.

    u.... ....

Thanks Johann. Went back and listened. Marvellous music.

    u.... ....

    Wonderful. So Wind Chimes!

    u.... ....

    @Paul A
I knew there was a joke like that in there somewhere.

  69. b.... ....

But there are musical quotes from Smile in this song starting at :48. Could not have been too long after the Smile sessions.

    b.... ....

bobareebop This was from the Wild Honey sessions, along with Cool Cool Water and Time to Get Alone. The other two eventually got finished however, while this one remains a forgotten gem

  70. J.... H....

Amazing! Brian is a musical genius!! And deaf in one ear!! He amazes me ceaselessly!

  71. S.... M....

I can't help but play this track at least 40 times in a row every time i hear it.

  72. t.... ....

I have this on my Beach Boys albums, its good seeing it on the streets I guess, great song great group

  73. s.... ....

had been searching for this song for a while, but couldn't remember the title. found it! love it!

  74. C.... G....

I have tears on my face.

  75. R.... ....

In the other version, Brian continues the talking at1:57. Something like: "Miss you so hard now. Come back to me, and don't break my heart." The last phrase is missing here.
I can't find that other version on YouTube.

  76. R.... ....

I believe this is one of two versions. The other can be found on the 'Years of Vibravtions' box.

  77. M.... ....

    Brian is such a genius

  78. I.... P....

    Won, won, wonderful......

  79. I.... P....

How true my friend.....Brian's work transcends EVERYTHING in the last 50 years...love him and his music!

  80. I.... P....

This is such a groove....Brian IS God

  81. S.... M....

At the top of the pyramid of popular song writers, there is Brian Wilson......then comes everyone else.......You don't judge the man,......you listen to him............

  82. j.... h....

    I never heard this song.
    enchanting.

  83. C.... B....

Don't jump to conclusions. Maybe he heard something he didn't like.
...but I sure like this song, even in its unfinished state

  84. l.... ....

    Great post.
What a brilliant song,if only smile had been issued in 1967.

  85. M.... ....

It's crazy that this work was left on the shelf, unreleased until the 1990s!!! In fact just imagine if it was never released at all?!

  86. C.... B....

I like the potential this song has. It's too bad Brian burned out his mind on drugs, because
if he had finished this song, it would have been a total masterpiece, and I still like the song
in its unfinished state. Perhaps he WILL finish it...

  87. S.... A....

Noone is disputing Brian Wilson is a genius and that this is an amazing song, but danmm, that is one awful picture of Brian, wish they picked a better one. I wanted to put a clip of this song on my facebook so people could hear it but I saw that and just said fuck it and posted the track from spotify instead

  88. i.... ....

This should be in Smiley Smile~

  89. D.... C....

Everything about this piece is shivering awesome. The wikipedia information about it is great.
J'adore!!!! I'm an ancient old 'Smiley Smile' is their best album ever one person society. While SMiLE is great, 'Smiley Smile' is up close, personal, and intimate, chronicling a little descent into madness/genius. Super props to Van Dyke Parks for the great collaboration!

  90. C.... M....

    son angeles cantanto hermoso !!!

  91. T.... H....

    SO BEAUTIFUL.

CANT IMAGINE SOMEONE SO SCREWED UP TO DISLIKE THIS

  92. T.... H....

    SO BEAUTIFUL.

  93. J.... G....

Hello Tas6010, this is Joseph, Brian did finish Smile in fall of 2003, so he did exorcise whatever demons he had. I have the CD and play it a lot! He is still and always will be a genius. Smile is a masterpiece! He has his own band and they are very good!

  94. L.... ....

the ending could go directly into Goodvibrations if you think about it

  95. L.... K....

    I love the word sessions

  96. m.... ....

    this song gives me shivers

  97. K.... ....

Love fuzz guitar, love tack piano, love the bass line. Have just always loved the whole thing. Bass line same as tag on Windchimes or is that my imagination? :)

  98. t.... ....

    Love the mix
