Bauhaus - Who Killed Mr. Moonlight? Lyrics
Consider green lakes
And the idiocy of clocks
Someone shot nostalgia in the back
Someone shot our innocence
And all our colors have run
A broken arrow in a bloody pool
The wound in the face
Of midnight proposals
Someone shot nostalgia in the back
Someone shot our innocence
In the shadow of his smile
In the shadow of his smile
In the shadow of his smile
In the shadow of his smile
All our dreams have melted down
We are hiding in the bushes
From dead men
Doing Douglas Fairbanks' stunts
All our stories burnt
Our films lost in the rushes
We can't paint any pictures
As the moon had all our brushes
Extracting wasps from stings in flight
Who killed Mr. Moonlight?
Extracting wasps from stings in flight
Who killed Mr. Moonlight?
Extracting wasps from stings in flight
Who killed Mr. Moonlight?
In the shadow of his smile
In the shadow of his smile
Who killed Mr. Moonlight?

Bauhaus Who Killed Mr. Moonlight? Comments
I have always had a deep, deep love for this song.
Good question.
This song is absolutely excellent well crafted Jazz Gothic poetry in motion,Trisomie 21 and Tuxedo Moon 🌙 intertwined.
I bet it was either Mr Dusk or Mr Sunrise ;)
Song.always takes me away from mundane life
This sounds hurts my soul...in the sorta good kinda way

Absolutely beautiful, and David's piano playing is perfection💖
Someone shot nostalgia in the back..
Smokin cloves dressin in black makin out with goth girls back in the 80s.
I love Bauhaus. It reminds me of when I had an art studio in St Helens. UK. If art could be turned in to music, It would be bauhaus!! Great stuff
I just don't think this band got the credit they richly deserved. The songs sound as good and original as they did 30 years ago
I am. GAIUS. PETRONIUS....
uwielbiam, from poland
piosenka, która ma w sobie coś pięknego. piękny, zagadkowy klimat. Peter Murphy jest wielki
as of jan 30 2018, this is still valid.
this is still class
Bauhaus que dire si ce n'est que ce fut l'un des meilleurs groupes de l'époque
could be as a theme in eyes wide shut
I am 48. This song was part of my life, always will be. I miss good music. I also enjoyed adam and the ants.but that has nothing to do with anything.
Gene Clark I’m going to be 52 this year, and I totally agree, I post all my favorite 80’s music on FB and nothing fits better than this to express how I feel today! “Someone shot nostalgia in the back...” 😢
Im soon to be 30, and this song touches parts of my sould no other songs can. I realise im a bit late to the party, but gosh, this is music at its absolute finest.
The Beatles
cover the song Mr Moonlight John Lennon took lead vocals
I always wondered if this has anything to do with Lennon
Amazing song . Love these guys .
creo que Noel Gallagher está basando su carrera en ésta banda jaja
If I remember correct David J is in vocals and not Peter Murphy in this track
Correct
this song fucked me up. I haven't heard it since my childhood.
amazing.
I love this song
luna iris es complicada de entender. No basta con que te guste. Si no comprendes su significado te pierdes toda su esencia
Ostsee organisiert nerven
I'm one with this song
dEAD CHRISSY, IN HIS SHADOW ; )
I always thought pm was a bit tired and da and the rest had picked up the slack on the vocals by this point? Happy to be corrected off to listen to bela and hollow hills :)
Matt Voyle I think Peter Murphy was sick at the time with pneumonia and the band went and started recording the next album without him, thinking he would do the vocals when he was out of the hospital. But in this song, (and slice of life), they kept the original initial recordings with David J. And Ash singing the songs, respectively for reasons of their own. Everybody likes to hear themselves sing, I guess.
Extracting wasps from stings in flight , who killed Mr Moonlight .....
One of my most favorite songs in all of my forevers. I feel this going round and round on my turn table.
incredible
loved it with all my heart💘

i was just listening to Gorgoroth and this came, i don't get why.
Fuck yeah Gorgoroth slays
Andres Iraci funny I did the same
I just finished listening to Quintessence by Darkthrone before this.
This album, Burning from the Inside, needs to be heard as a 'whole'.It is almost operatic in compilation.
Lloyd W. G. Holm yes
exactly right

...and after all it was the same bastard who drove my love to tears, to have some salt for my wounds
the idiocy of clocks.... should we run?
We can't paint any pictures, as the Moon had all our brushes.

AB Aponte wow very original
Alexandria Skinless to be honest you sound like an ex that I have in North Long Beach cuz that Avatar looks f****** retarded
Hermuncle - it should say
As her uncle wrote here: Remembering, probably the worst kind of suffering. Better the memories - the pain. Sweet sorrow. Unbearable. Got to turn it off tune it out.
this is such a beautiful song :)
I love this
The lyrics don't make much sense, but I can gather together a theme of sorts from them.
Un pezzo che conserva nel tempo la sua incredibile e struggente bellezza...
+Fosca P. molto bene.
Assoluto.
This song makes me bawl
love love love
LOVE THE PETER VOICEAND LOVE HIM, COURSE
YES I WRONG HERE SOUND VERY SIMILAR DAVID J VOICE TO THE PETER VOICE ,I'M SORRY FOR REPLAYING LATE
+Jane Currie FIRST, GOOD ANSWER OK, i m not disrespecting to you , I was wrong BECAUSE THE VOICE OF DAVID J IN THIS SONG IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE VOICE OF PETER, that was it,
+Jane Currie Troll says what?
If you're serious, and can't differentiate L&R from 1D, then you have no ability to comment on music of any type.
But I don't think anybody is that stupid, so I'll just chalk your comments on some poor lonely soul with nothing better to do on a Friday night - which is sad enough in itself.
This track is song by David J, not Peter Murphy... Peter only sang on about half the tracks on Bauhaus' final album, as he was ill and the band made the decision to move ahead with recording in his absence.
Still gives me shivers. One of my all time favorites. The drama, the passion, the joy and the sorrow. I will forever feel it all.
I feel exactly the same <3
It is important to listen to the 'Burning from the Inside' as almost operatic.
The compilation (album) forms a whole.
There are thematic and musical similarities to Mussorgsky with Night on Bald Mountain
This is my brother's favorite Bauhaus song. Reading it and listening to it again reminds me of why...
beautiful song
κωστας - νικητας
this song is my best one for all time
The organ is amazing
Wonder, Remember ?
You're everywhere.
This will forever remind me of the one who got away.
Closer to Tones On Tail than Bauhuas I suppose... still brilliant though.
@***** Of course he does and Tones on Tail was without David J too and he's the one singing on this so it can't really be thought of as them. More Love and Rockets but sounds less like them than Tones on Tail.
@***** minus J and with Glen Campling, so not exactly Love and Rockets either. But completely unique but continuous sound from 3 great bands. except the new bauhaus, and later L&R which is shit :)
IMO, Slice of Life was the first ToT song
souvenirs souvenirssss waow c'est pas Dieu possible...
Thank's for uploading...
How beautiful.
красивый <3
love the LP
A piano classic.
Remembering; probably the worst kind of suffering.
One of many great tunes!
it's just... magic.
ehhhhhh.... the album crackle will always be their best.
I am from Brazil...
And I love BAUHAUS!!!
Good...
Thaks...
sublime
I love how the song changes
muy buena..
so pretty.
a bit strange for them.i like it.more prog than goth
Odd. I am in OC, so who knows. I just never heard it then. None of my friends ever used "goth".
That was the term in Hollywood and LA
I never heard that one here, either. I am sure a lot of the terms were regional, since nobody really knew WHAT to make of it then.
It was GLoom Rock--that is the early 80s term
It was still goth in 1988... I was 19 back then
we kill mr moonlight
dArkNeSs . . . BeAuTiFuL . . . DaRkNeSs . . .
lol cool! reminds me a bit when I would listen to the band NAKED LUNCH in LA in the basement of church not too far from tower record HQ. Their manager was some russian accent woman. The drummer was awsome!
Hey now! LOL. Not much rougher than 30, really. But taste is ageless and so is good music. I love things that came out decades before I was born and things that came out this month.
I didn't even hear the term goth until Marylin Manson came out. It was called other things back then. Where I am from, alternative or "death rock" were popular terms.
Is there such thing as a favorite Bauhaus song?
My favorite Bauhaus song.
So fucking obsessed
C'est merveilleux.
I ADORE this song.
Que d'emotion
respect and thanks for sharing that!
Awesome ! I would have been a fucking groupie.
My favorite Bauhaus song
Someone shot nostalgia in the back
Someone shot our innocence
And all of our colors have run...
