Barry Manilow - He's A Star Lyrics
It really doesn't matter if he suffered all he claims
You know he started somewhere and he found his way to fame
And feeding on the lonely crowd, he finally belongs
A power by the microphone he sings his troubled songs
No one can tell him anymore
He'll ride as far
As the road can go
And what it costs, he oughta know
He said he'd do it
He's a star
They're hangin' on his music as it fills the concert hall
And he's teasin' them with moments, when you think he'll give it all
But he's holdin' back the total, 'cause that's how he works the spell
'Cause he's a star
No one can tell him anymore
He'll ride as far
As the road can go
And what it costs, he oughta know
He said he'd do it
He's a star
And finally, the wild applause that cleans his soul and saves
He's left with no companions, only enemies and slaves
He's scared again the show was slow, he felt it fall behind
Tomorrow night's already raising riot in his mind
But he's a star
No one can tell him anymore
He'll ride as far
As the road can go
And what it costs, he oughta know
He said he'd do it
He's a star

Yes! Barry is a STAR! Forever!
GREAT song...Barry sells this one. One of my favorites from back when.
He's lost a tiny bit of vocal energy -- but that's understandable -- gettin' up there, our Bar ... (Yes, I do sorta miss the Female lyrics, 100% agreed, edwardjames50 ... What can ya do ...
Barry needs to Feel he's Still All That ....

This song first appeared as "SHE'S a Star" on one of his early albums, decades ago. It's his musical slap at Bette Midler, who he had a very contentious professional relationship with. I like him, but I find it very self-serving that's he's altered the lyrics to change the gender.
My fav BM song, never heard him do this live untill now, great post;-)
another perfect album from the master of music. I love it from the very first moment on. Thanks
This is a fresh and upbeat set of songs. The listener gets pulled into the story. A driving beat., tempered with some sweet ballads. Its really catchy too, Found myself singing along on a long car ride and within a short while had learnt the words. Bravo! I hope Barry wasn't being too modest to promote this great album to his Paris audiences,
Love this song from the album Trying to Get the Feeling from 1975. The arrangement I do not like as well tho. Love the song and the fact that he made it different than the other song. Thanks for posting the entire concert from QVC on here.
ok so he's slightly croaky but , being the trooper he is he doesn't like to let his millions of fans down , even with laryngitits God Bless Barry for 35 years in the "biz" i love him , when some of these "other stars"have been around for more than 35 and can command 4 sell out nights in a row at the 02 leaving screaming adoring fans wanting more will i admire like this man MR MANILOW I LOVE YOU XX
@seva1988
I'm not going to argue with you. You think I'm being childish, OK you can do that. That's what people do in these places. I wish you make a lot of friends in the real world, so you learn to deal with those who won't agree with you.
Barry was coming out from a nasty laringitis so I guess he couldn't sing well live. Give the man a chance. After all he iis still a great performer and nobody can deny that. How many of those who criticize him had achieved anything quite like he has!
I worked with him on the Arsenio Hall show, he is a stickler for detail. We went through rehearsal after rehearsal, sound checks, lighting checks...I am sure that there was no way that this show could meet those demands and come off sounding good. I don't think anything bad of him for choosing to lip synq it, he always wants to sound his best.
Is he singing live along with prerecorded backing tracks that cover his vocal blemishes?
@seva1988 No, I think it's just the video and audio going out of sync at the end, You tube does that a lot.
I have heard all the songs from 15 minutes and I love every one of them. Congrats Barry,Love it Love You:)
a keeper.
All these decades later the song still works.
Barry...you're teasing us with these lyrics "he's teasing them with moments when you think he'll give it all, but he's holding back the total, cause that's how he works his spell, yeah he likes to leave them hungry, he loves to hear them yell"...and that's exactly how we feel <3 You're our STAR, and always will be <3
Love this song but love the other version from Trying to Get the Feeling better than this one because it had more piano and it was not so hard as this version. Thanks for posting this song anyway. The song is alot about his life I think whether he wants to admit to it on TV or not. I think alot of the album is about his life in a way. Got it the other day and love it. Thanks for posting this video of this amazing man that I have loved his music since 1973.
It's amazing that his voice hasn't changed since he first recorded this song back in 1976 when it was called "She's a star"......and he IS!
Well done!!!!
I remember when this song was titled "She's a Star" like the new version. Sounds like its almost autobiographical
Nice lyrics to the song! It is so true about how nearly all stars get so full of themselves and think they need no one, and end up with that. Glad he feels he's changed and can sing about it, and hopefully can reach a few. His story about realizing all the people around him looking at the stars that night in S FL were all employees was sad.
JusticeForTheDead — By his own admission, the entire album “15 Minutes” is, to some extent, autobiographical. Maybe this new arrangement is a bit “hard” for a lot of long-time fans, but this is why Barry has become multi-generational; he has been able to change with the times. So he’s not bleeding-edge, but that’s okay. This album was the first Manilow album I’d been able to listen to start to finish and enjoy each and every song since the days of “Live” and “Even Now”.
And it is worth noting that he is not lip-syncing here. The guy still has it. 🎹😁🎹
