Barry Manilow - Bandstand Boogie Lyrics

We're goin' hoppin' (Hop)
We're goin' hoppin' today
Where things are poppin' (Pop)
The Philadelphia way
We're gonna drop in (Drop)
On all the music they play
On the Bandstand (Bandstand)

We're goin' swingin' (Swing)
We're gonna swingin' the crowd
And we'll be clingin' (Cling)
And floatin' high as a cloud
The phones are ringin' (Ring)
My mom and dad are so proud
I'm on Bandstand (Bandstand)
And I'll jump, and hey, I may even show 'em my handstand
Because I'm on, because I'm on the American Bandstand
When we dance real slow I'll show all the guys in the grandstand
What a swinger I am, I am on American Bandstand

We're goin' hoppin
We're goin' hoppin today
Where things are poppin
The Philadelphia way
We're gonna drop in
On all the music they play
On the Bandstand (Bandstand)

Bandstand
Bandstand
Bandstand
Bandstand The Bandstand The Bandstand
(What d'ya know--Here on the show--ready to go--what a pro)

Hey I'm makin' my mark
Gee, this joint is jumpin'
They made such a fuss just to see us arrive
Hey, it's Mr. Dick Clark
What a place you've got here
Swell spot the music's hot here
Best in the east, give it at least a seventy five!

Now for all you Joe's here goes my American handstand
Because I'm on, because I'm on the American Bandstand
As we dance real slow I'm showin' the guys in the grandstand
That I like my girl, but I love American Bnadstand

The singers' croonin'
He ain't the greatest but gee
My baby's swoonin'
In front of all of TV
So if you tune in
You'll see my baby and me
On the Bandstand (Bandstand)

And now we're hoppin
And we'll be hopppin all day
When things are poppin
The philadelphia way
And you can drop in
On all the music they play
On the Bandstand
Bandstand

And we'll rock and roll and stroll on American
Lindy hop and slop, it's American
Tune in, I'm on,
Turn on, I'm in, I'm on
Today (Bandstand)

PI celebrates band leader and composer LARRY ELGART's life and musical legacy. You were a special, one-of-a-kind Maestro. Thank you and your wife Lynn, for your friendship and for your many Big Band recordings, including the phenomenally popular 'Bandstand Boogie', the theme to Dick Clark's American Bandstand and the multi-million selling classic 'Hooked on Swing'.
    Larry Elgart (b. March 20, 1922 d. August 29, 2017)

  38. d.... ....

I recommend Dick Clark's biography, "Rock, Roll, and Remember", it is entertaining and interesting!

  39. M.... W....

On this date in 1957, "American Bandstand" made its debut on ABC!

  40. C.... ....

When I was a kid back in the 1970s, watching "American Bandstand" every weekend was a big deal for every youngster who was still in school.  The show always opened with this same song by Barry Manilow.

  45. G.... G....

Gotta do this for school. Dancing to it is hard on the hands, but still really fun!

  46. c.... 4....

Can't tell if this is Barry Manilow or Weird Al Yankovic

  47. C.... ....

I would like to have seen the expression on DickClark's face the first time he heard this!

    Typical June 1978!!

  53. K.... T....

    American Bandstand theme from 1978!

  54. J.... G....

RIP Mr. Clark. Always loved this song.

    J.... G....

    Yes indeed he is

    "For Now, Dick Clark....So Long"

He always did that, God Bless His Soul

  55. T.... H....

Barry Manilow did a great job with this theme song to American Bandstand and turned it into a Rock & Roll Classic

I grew up in the 80's and every Saturday, I would put on AB on abc followed by Soul Train on WGN-TV and later Hee Haw w/Roy Clark and SOLID GOLD and @ night after the 10:00 News, I would put on America's Top 10 w/the late Casey Kasem as it aired on KLFY-TV 10 Lafayette, LA

American Bandstand have pave the way for the likes of Don Cornelius' Soul Train, Merv Griffin's Dance Fever, The Midnight Special Featuring the late Wolfman Jack, Dance Party USA, CLUB MTV, SOLID GOLD, Ed McMahon's Star Search, New York Hot Tracks, Arsenio Hall's Party Machine w/Nia Peeples, TNN's Club Dance with Shelley Mangrum, Disney's Videopolis, Hee Haw, Top of the Pops, BET's 106 & Park, America's Top 10 w/the late Casey Kasem and many others

God Bless You Mr. Clark for a job well done and Thank You for not only giving us American Bandstand, but also, countless hours and hours of entertainment and fun with Pyramid (Produced by the late great Bob Stewart), TV's Bloopers & Practical Jokes (Co-Produced by Johnny Carson's Carson Productions), Friday Night Surprise, American Music Awards on abc, Daytime Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, Let's Make a Deal from Disney MGM Studios in Florida & The Challengers (Both Co-Produced by Ron Greenberg), Scattergories (Produced by Reg Grundy Productions), It Takes Two (Produced by Mark Phillips, MTM and FAM), Winning Lines (Produced by Stone-Stanley Entertainment), Mad Libs (Co-Produced by JD Roth of Fun House & Masters of the Maze), Puttin' on the Hits (Co-Produced by Chris Bearde of The Gong Show), GREED (now owned by 20th Century Fox Television) and many others

Most of all, Thank You for helping us ring in the New Year with New Year's Rockin' Eve

R.I.P. and until we see you again, So Long Friend

Please say hello to Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon for me

Even though American Bandstand LIVES ON through New Year's Rockin' Eve and the American Music Awards, sadly, New Year's Eve will NEVER be the same w/o Mr. Clark and today's music isn't what it use to be

also, the spirit of American Bandstand lives in Mollie B Polka Party on RFD-TV

Mollie B Polka Party is like American Bandstand Polka Style

and this goes out to you Mr. Clark

    "For Now, Dick Clark...So Long"

    T.... H....

I watched "American Bandstand," "Soul Train" and "America's Top 10" every Saturday when I was in my teens and early 20's back in the 80's. R.I.P. Dick Clark, Don Cornelius and Casey Kasem. You will always be my fave "VJs!"

  65. s.... ....

    Skipped parts and added parts

  66. s.... ....

I hear the instrumental versión in Escape from New York my first time XD

  67. S.... H....

My uncle was on American Bandstand a number of TIMES!!! Philly pride!

  68. R.... W....

The wonderful arrangement of this song is completely destroyed by Barry Manilow. There is only ONE great Bandstand Boogie--and that was by Les Elgart!

    R.... W....

Elgart's instrumental was good, but after Manilow added words, it was better; "Bandstand Boogie" was a top five hit for Barry Manilow in 1976.

  69. 1.... ....

1957 - Dick Clark (1929-2012) brought rock-n-roll to American television.  1964 - American Bandstand moves from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, California, where it would stay until the show ended in '89.  Thank you Mr. Clark for all of your contributions in the field of television and R.I.P.

    1.... ....

of course it ended the year I was born. :(

  70. B.... R....

I have greatest hits, ultimate manilow but not the essential Barry manilow. But that will change soon. My aunt Darla had the 8-track with this on there.

    B.... R....

I used to own Ultimate Manilow. Someone didn't like that and smashed my copy in front of me. I was so sad.

  71. L.... E....

I am doing a solo to this song!! I love this era!!!

  72. C.... L....

Happy 70th Birthday to Mr. Barry Manilow!
