Baroness - Throw Me An Anchor Lyrics
The stars that shone between us
Were bluish-green and golden-like
Beware the hand that feeds us
Where the birds of prey
Hold onto the stolen light
Throw me an anchor
I hope you learned
When you gave me fire
I made it burn
The stars that shone between us
Were bluish-black and gold
The colours spreading everywhere
Begin to fade
Like bleach on poison-ivy skin
This is an emergency
This is an emergency
The stars that shone between us
Were all in monochrome
This is an emergency
The last one out will pay
This is an emergency
This is an...
Emergency
You'd throw me an anchor
And hope I'd learn
When you hold me to fire
You'd think I'd burn
When you bathe in fire
I'd throw you an anchor
I know you learned
When you hand me a lighter
I will make it burn

Baroness Throw Me An Anchor Comments
I'm here for the distortion anyway. And it's one of the best songs out there.
Pensé que lo había grabado mal con mi Total Recorder... Pero no, Baroness decidió editarlo así... Y bue, hippies!
These songs are great but the production sounds awful. Was this conceived in a garbage can
I explicitly enjoy the production on this album. I get how it wouldn't be to some people's taste but some people are seriously being pissbabies about it.
Glad I'm not that fond of the music anyway. No need to bitch about the horrendous production this way.
Wow. A whole lot of shitting on Fridmann in this thread.
Where is the Bass?
Stars have shone between us
Were bluish-green and golden-like
Beware the hand that feeds us

never heard of this band, it was played on college radio, so i dont have any other songs to compare "production" to, but this song is epic.
Why am I the only one who thinks it sounds great ?
Favorite
Guys! Guys! Guys! You have to legit buy the CD! I don't know what they did hear on youtube... But this sounds quality sucks on here! I just picked a physical CD up at their Buffalo NY show( fantastic show btw)... Night and day difference in quality...I can hear the layers now!!! And it no longer sounds like a mashed potatoes. I guess this shows you get what you pay for, better sound!
My only regret is that the 177 "thumbs downs" aren't in the water with actual anchors right now
Am I the only one who unironically enjoyed saturated drums eating up the lower freqs of the bass, which was extra muddy & crunchy that it covered up the midrange of the guitar, which was so reverbed it ate up all of Baizley's consonant articulation?
This makes me so damn happy.
my god shut up about the damn production already, we got it. personally i love listening to this awesome awesome song.
So they removed the full album off of google play, I hope it’s to readjust the songs so the mixing sounds better this time
Shut up about quality. Not everything needs to sound celine Dion clean. This song is heartwrenching.
Oh new album of Sunn 0)) is great
I love this band so much, which makes me even more sad to say the production sounds like it was thrown in a garbage disposal.
Fans: Purple was a horrible compressed mess. It couldn't possibly get any worse.
Baroness: Hold my beer!
Here is now a different view ... I personally complained a lot about the sound of this album but after listening to it over and over I cahnged my mind. I still prefer more dynamix approaches like it was usual in the 70s-80s but nevertheless I love the album and accepted the way it sounds. And furthermore not the whole album sounds like anchor. So, I say sorry to the band.
i want to like this but it keeps hissing at me
I still don't understand the hate for this song. I can hear it clearly. I can tell that it is supposed to have heavy distortion. The things you think you're missing out are just echoey parts of the song. It's okay, you're not insane. That's a song in there. It's not hard to hear. Just loud. Y'know, like most metal?
I feel like Baroness just recycle their studio rehearsals they did like 10 years ago, just changed a producer to an anteater.
Is anyone else thinking Dark Souls rule 34 with the women on here?
I’m actually shocked reading the comments. Is everybody listening to music like it’s a fucking spa day or something?
Am I really the only one who likes the production?
Fridmann should stick to the Flaming Lips
The worst sound engineer ever (?) even if the musicians talk to him/her they like this way, he/she must say NO. great music, bad decisions at the recording and mixing
I CANT FUCKING STOP COMPRESSING I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO
Guys I still like your music but what the hell were you doing when the engineers (if that word is even appropriate) recorded and mixed this? Did you actually go up to the console room, listen to THIS playing back through the monitors, nod your heads and say yeah, we're happy with this, put it in the can? This is an act of sonic war on my ears, and not in a good way.
I got a fever and the only prescription is more white noise
I'm pretty sure they wanted it to sound filthy!
Pretty bad when a band releases a new album and all the comments are about how bad the productin and compressing is of released songs
Super Unknown the songs are good but the bands is basically retarded for thinking this poor mix is good
Very overcompressed. Almost unlistenable. The guys listened many times the Death Magnetic before the master... Sad.

People are so obsessed with the production theyre overlooking the fact this sounds like mid-2000s "emo" music.
SpookyApparition I wouldn't necessarily call it emo, not that emotional and edgy
Holy shit whoever produced this, he should be fired. Shame, song sounds pretty solid otherwise.
wtf happened? purple n g&g r both mixed / mastered horribly. they hafta b doin this on purpose but y? it sounds like static n parts n then way too compressed n others.
Nah, don't believe this is final production! Hmm, guys should rent Mastodons sound engineers!
Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of super clean production or because I listen to a lot of shoegaze and lo-fi music, but the mix doesn't bother me. Looking forward to listening to the whole album.
Modern Day Masterpiece I thought my speakers were broken because of that terrible snare sound
What the hell is wrong them, as an album it's their best since blue but sounds like crap
man, you would think a band would rather re mix an album than lose fans and sales. i, for the life of me, cannot fathom why such an AMAZING band with such amazing musicians, could allow songs this good, to sound so bad. its mind boggling. this sounds like absolute shit, and it looks like about 90% of the comments agree with me. fuckin a this is frustrating to listen to....
Man, I love Baroness but I really wish they would work with Kurt Ballou for mixing and production.
lol the toms sound 8 bit.
For me personally after "Yellow & Green" it was over.
i just listened to the whole cd and it is unbearable to listen to on a car stereo.. im disapointed. Im a huge Baroness fan too.
this production and mixing is straight garbage
This is the worst mixed/mastered product from a known band that I’ve ever heard.
Well, i actually love how abrasive it is. It's kind of shoegazy and i like it
Ta certo essa porra ai?
To all those complaining about the mix:
Please get a good pair of headphones, trust me it's not that bad, unless ofc you're playing it from your phone's speaker or cheap skullcandies
I’m clearly part of the minority in this, but I actually like the sound of purple and the singles off the new album. To me it’s part of the Baroness sound. Purple on vinyl absolutely kills
It sounds like it was recorded in a public toilet with the producer outside holding a microphone up to a window that was just out of reach.
I can't even tell if I like the songs because of the mixing.
I mean, I really like the first Watain album too but not beause of it's production.
This song is easily growing on me. It takes a specific mindset, but I'm truly loving the theme of "perseverance" that seems to be common among the tracks of the new album. <3
All y'all complaining about the mix or production sound like a bunch of pussies. If you listen to Baroness for their "production" then my dude, you're doing it wrong.
Since this is an emergency, I highly recommend using a plugin called enhancer with foobar 2000 or something. This shit is broken. But it's rad when it's broken twice.
This sounded alright on a phone speaker, sounds worse on decent speakers. It's like everything's louder than everything less. Great tagline for Motorhead but for an actual mix...
Boy did they get conned on this mix job. For a band that gets better with every album, the production quality has gotten gradually worse.. so disappointing.
The last minute is super painful to listen to. The writing of the song, hell the whole song itself is amazing, but jesus christ that fucking white noise is making my teeth hurt. Fire who ever the fuck produced this, please.
I like the mixing
Thank God I went through the comment section. I was about to throw away a really expensive pair of earphones.
I'm digging the new songs. Just wish you would get Scott Hull to master another album of yours.
The production is pretentious... this has nothing to do with sounding raw and honest.
Have Baroness explicitly stated they meant for the album to sound "raw and honest"? 'Cause if they haven't, I don't see it as a missed point, rather than a unique choice. Not every album is meant to sound "raw and honest" (even though I'd definitely call this "raw", much more so than the polished, glossy production many "extreme" bands go with nowadays).
Baroness have been consistently moving away from the sound that defined their earlier releases (that could be described as such) and this production everyone here in the comments seems to hate so much is just a natural next step in the direction they've chosen to take. As for the "honesty" of the whole thing, I don't think this band has ever let anyone down in all these years. They've been consistently releasing material that intrigues and they never rehash and self-plagiarize. Nothing but honest work from Baizley & co. since the beginning. I don't know where you're getting that "this [sound] has nothing to do" with any of the above.
rubinsbleed unique, honest sound? It’s just another addition to modern music ruined by the loudness war.
Cautious thumbs up because the song is great. The mixing is fucking terrible.
So from reading some of the comments how am I supposed to listen to this? I've tried listening to it on most devices I can't get over the quality, but I'm sure live is awesome but everything after green and yellow has been hard to listen to. I love the band live but unless buying all vinyl is the way this may be hard cd to enjoy for me personally.
Pretty hard to not agree with all the criticisim of this song. Mixing like shit.
Song would be amazing if the production wasn't god awful
Awesome song, but why is it being played through a gramophone?
I like the composition of the song..I really don't dig the recording/mixing/engineering. I get the idea might be to go lofi here, but it needs fixing
I am not saying this is a bad mix, but I can make my farts sound better with a jar of pickles.
Is there a lo-fi metal genre? If so that’s how I would describe the sound of this song.
Dan Halen ever heard of lo-fi Black metal, basically Darkthrone and Burzum
All in all you're just a...
nother person complaining about Baroness's new album. Everyone seems to dislike Purple, but in my opinion that's their best album so far. I'm glad they're moving in this new direction. Every color has a very unique sound (like synesthesia), and Baroness is definitely an acquired taste. I wasn't too crazy about them at first, but now they're my favorite band. Hopefully you all give this album a chance to sink in. I was skeptical at first, but after you listen to the new songs a few times they really grow on you.
Jesus christ i downloaded better sounding songs on NAPSTER
You know, there is a really, really good song under all the clipping.
Going off the comments, you'd think Dylan went electric again.
This is beyond fuzz, I appreciate a wall of sound every now and then. ...that thin line between music and noise is interesting.
The mix is fucked
I think my speakers are broken. No wait, the song just sounds bad.
This mix isn't as fitting as when The Stooges did that with "Raw Power". 😐
I don't understand the complaints. The song sounds fine to me. Maybe I'm just crazy but I'm glad I can enjoy the song
I so hope this is not what these songs will sound like in the finished album. This bloated, over-compressed mess really wrecks these otherwise great songs. I don't know lf it's Dave Fridmann's clipping fascination (which also damaged what would otherwise be my favorite Sleater-Kinney album "The Woods"), but... please stop.
I love you guys, but at 3:30, the song is literally just fuzz.
Damn, another Baroness song. Excellent song with horrific sound mixing
Sound butchering at its meanest.
Maybe this recent mixing style is simply a diabolical way to get more people out to their shows haha.. Personally I actually loved Purple.. and the way it sounded. And honestly so far I'm really diggin the first two released tracks.. But I hate to admit it.. with this one.. damn.. No idea what the purpose of this mix would be other than them proclaiming.. Fuck You! We do what we want lol..
Who involved with this album thought that producing an album that sounds like every instrument is clipping, was in any way a good idea? Please shoot that guy. Not even gonna start talking about the mix.
Is this post production? Is this like when Old Man Gloom leaked a fake release?
Baroness got the fuzz fever
ITS ANNOYING CAUSE ITS EASILY BARONESS' BEST WORK EVER
somewhere in a corner st anger era metallica laugh
and death magnetic era
Oh god, the production is terrible!! What the hell??
Excelent music, but production/mixing is garbage.
While it is mastered pretty hot... I feel like their fuzz tone is especially exaggerated by the mastering.
Great song it's bizzarly a tad fuzzy sounding but it works lol
I love when bands piss off people. Well done Baroness :)
Man there's a good song in here. Shame the potential isn't being maximised.
This would have been an awesome song with clear production ;(
Because not everything is protools and i like that about baroness
