Barbra Streisand - I Stayed Too Long At The Fair Lyrics

Hmmm...hmmm
Hmmm...hmmm
I wanted the music to play on forever
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
I wanted the clown to be constantly clever
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
I bought me blue ribbons to tie up my hair
But I couldn't find anybody to care
The merry-go-round is beginning to slow now
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
The music has stopped and the children must go now
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
Oh, mother dear, I know you're very proud
Your little girl in gingham is so far above the crowd
No, daddy dear
You never could have known
That I would be successful, yet so very much alone
I wanted to live in a carnival city
With laughter and love everywhere
I wanted my friends to be thrilling and witty
I wanted somebody to care
I found my blue ribbons all shiny and new
But now I discover them no longer blue
The merry-go-round is beginning to taunt me
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
There's nothing to win
And there's no one to want me
Have I stayed too long at the fair?

She was right with the song "I'm the greatest star"

This album was recorded in June 1963. The "Color Me Barbra" TV special aired in March 1966. The two versions of this song (the second one abbreviated in the circus medley) are separated by about 2.5 years -- they show Barbra's amazing evolution artistically and professionally. So highly intelligent and focused. A role model for every artist who wants to make excellent work.

At 71 I'm beginning to wonder myself. Where's my sense of proportion?

    B.... ....

Hey, Bronxboy47 -- tell me what you mean by that. Is it the same thing as having unrealistic expectations? I get accused of that every once in a while... well, actually most of the time.

@Noe Berengena Just a little Existentialist snark.

    B.... ....

@Bronxboy47 I think I understand. Watch out for that Existentialism -- it punched a big hole in my Freshman year in college. Years older now, I find some comfort in Buddhism. My regards...

    NO1 like her <3

    A.... H....

I was around when Jack Paar introduced her to the world on his show in 1961. It was love at first hearing. I've loved her ever since. You're right, there is absolutely no one like her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DXvLD-pxms

Interesting how she lets her voice falter at the end.

David Hawley She is such a perfectionist that, I suspect it was dramatically intentional and sweet genius! ♥️⭐️👍👏
