Band, The - Atlantic City Lyrics
Well, they blew up the Chicken Man in Philly last night
And they blew up his house, too
Down on the boardwalk they're ready for a fight
Gonna see what them racket boys can do
And the D.A. can't get no relief
Gonna be a rumble on the promenade
And the gamblin' commissioner's hangin' on by the skin of his teeth
Everything dies, baby, that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City
Well, I got a job and I put my money away
So I drew out what I had from the Central Trust
And I bought us two tickets on that Coast City bus
Everything dies, baby, that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City
Now our luck may have died and our love may be cold
But with you forever I'll stay
We'll be goin' out where the sand turns to gold
But put your stockings on, 'cause it might get cold
Oh, everything dies, baby, that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City
Now I've been a-lookin' for a job, but it's hard to find
There's winners and there's losers and I'm south of the line
Well, I'm tired of gettin' caught out on the losin' end
But I talked to a man last night, gonna do a little favor for him
Well, everything dies, baby, that's a fact
But maybe everything that dies some day comes back
Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City
Oh, meet me tonight in Atlantic City
Oh, meet me tonight in Atlantic City

I'm sorry for your loss, but always thank the Vietnam veterans. They were disrespected for doing what our country asked.
Phineas Gage true
I don't think this Band has a bad song or cover.
They’re winners and losers. And I’m south of the line. I feel ya.
Only 26 some say I'm a old soul. Am a 3rd generation hippy. With the love of great music. The Band is one of the top groups that are just unbeatable
Levon was one of the coolest guys on the planet
They blew up the chicken man in Philly last night...he was a famous mobster from Philly they put a pipe bomb on his porch filled with nails, his son got revenge on them too but he was killed as well. He was called the chicken man because he had chicken pox scars on his face that never healed. I can't think of his name right now but I'll find it for anyone that enjoys reading about organized crime.
George Washington Phil testa
Damn fine!
Better then Springsteen in my opinion
Levon on lead and Rick on back up vocals is my favorite pairing of all time
Aww, yeah ;)
I brought me here.
really good i love this song
eternal recurrence?
Billy Strings’ cover of this is smokin
Going to see the Last Waltz Tour tonight at the Tower Theatre in Philly. Just listening to these songs that seem to get better as they age, like a fine wine. So thankful I got to see them live- @ MSG in 1975 with Bob Dylan. The Band's 45 separate set was the highlight of that show. Road tested and tighter than Levon's snare drum.
MIss you Beek, Rick and Levon. RIP...
I wish I had gone to that show at the Tower!!!!!
Great job guys
MEET ME IN ATLANTIC CITY WYOMING. I WILL TREAT YOU TO A DRINK.
The Gourds remind me of this song.
Miss you Bill. As long as I live, you will never die.
The band is a treasure of the west
Bruce Springsteen is a FAG
The Band is in my top five favorite bands
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Little Feat
The Band
Allman Brothers
What happened to Justin Townes Earl's cover of this song? It was from the AV Club. I loved that cover, can't find it anywhere now...
this one is better than original song.
I have hit the LIKE button about 15 times for this, but it always shows that I didn't.However,if I like a top current Top 40 song it shows that I liked.WTF? Does yt not allow likes for true artists?
I have heard a song that sounds just like this but not same words I think it is a county song as if some one stole it
This is definitely the song that Springsteen was born to write...so the Band could record it.
Right on time with this song .. I love it
Who's still listening in 2020?
2020? lol wtf
Anyone that still listens, brother. R'n R ain't dead yet. Still hanging on.

For a fight gonna see what them racket boys can do
Now there's trouble busin' in from outta state
And the D.A. can't get no relief
Gonna be a rumble out on the promenade and
The gamblin' commission's hangin' on by the skin of its teeth
Everything dies baby that's a fact

But I got in too deep and I could not pay
So I drew what I had from the Central Trust
And I bough us two tickets on that Coast City bus
I miss Levons voice
Larry Cork me too!❤️❤️
I love country songs. ❤️
This song should not "work" but "Damn!" It just does. Levon's Arkansas drawl and mandolins doing a pretty spare Springsteen song! It just does!
I dropped a butter knife, and it slid under my oven months ago. 😟
It might be just me, but 🇱🇷 comes up in my mind every single time I here this. :)
Why doe Liberia come up in your mind
"Well I got a job and I put my money away, but I got the kind of debt no money can pay"
So you have student loans?
Springsteen wrote this song and sang so great love his version better
They play this version on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City
This is a Canadian band and I just learned that. 22 years and I've heard nothing about The Band.
TheWineParty Levon was from Arkansas
One of the best bands ever
holy fuck....
The Band do Bruce.
The Chicken Man is a hidden reference to Robbie Robertson. LOL
Rolando Aponte I thought it was about testa
@Corey Barnett It is about Testa. Wth would Springsteen write about Robbie? Bruce was not involved in all the inter Band drama. Bruce wrote the song as a protest against Mob inroads into AC in the late 70s. The Band do a great cover, but this is a song about a small time hood in Jersey. Sopranos pre-Sopranos...
Music from a time and place that if i had a time machince thats where id be heading..
Cany find this on vinyl, sucks
Springsteen himself said The Band did it better than he did. ❤️
Levon and Rick harmonizing and cant forget Richard
my fiancé lost his mother to suicide a few years ago. when he talked to his father (technically step) this was his song for her. everything dies baby that's a fact, but maybe everything that dies some day comes back.
Atlantic City more like Morioh City.
At least they had decent music back in the day!
The worlds best cover
lets see install faceboo?..so u can finish my 186 phone that might make it anther day..then steal my password and email..and use my profile to chase dick?..you ve done it 578 times..i think maybe i finally figured out ur a fucking one way outfit and dont give a fuck about anything especially my devices...ur fucking kidfing me....rt....install bs apps for u so u can run overmy fucking ass
Listen to "The Weight" and "Up On Cripple Creek" for some really good music.
Fuck you chtisty are you confederate fucker bob no piss off fat ass
This is up there with the best covers of Springsteen songs though this doesn't top Rage Against The Machine's cover of 'The Ghost of Tom Joad"
Best group of musicians ever assembled. Appropriately named "The Band".
True insight into America. The gambling commissioner, of whatever sort you think you're dealing with, is always hanging on by the skin of his teeth. And ***there is*** going to be a rumble on the promenade. So watch out. He's going to be swamped by the endless corruption that produces debt no honest man can pay and keeps us all south of the line. But that's nothing compared to the personal strength made possible between a man and a woman. Everything dies and that's a fact, but maybe everything that dies some day comes back.
I love The Band!
I grew up & lived 10 city blocks from the chickens mans house I was around 15,16 years old at the time when it blew up one of my ex-girlfriends was friends with his kid
One of top all time bands
Those years in Woodstock -- Van Morrison, Maria Muldaur, Dylan, The Band (to name a few) -- what a collection of talent!
Brh
This song calms me down, but it also wants me to cry.
It's why i always come back from time to time so i can find relief.
The Band seemed so often to have a lot of obstacles to contend with in their career. Back in the day there wasnt 24 hour news on anything and everything like today. So the fans didn't know exactly what was going on with them when theyd stop touring and more or less just dissapear.. In the case of The Band they'd disappear from magazines, radio and then all of a sudden they'd re-appear. REGROUPED and back they went to writeing and touring again. . I'm a fan and love their music. has anyone ever published the complete history of this dynamic group of musicians and song writers? if yes who, what and where? The Band has fans in every corner of this planet. I miss them so much and hearing about them. . Id love to see them one more time before Its my time to say goodbye to life. the music of The Band has always been as good and on the same level as the Beatles and the other top groups of the era. i sure hope they alll know that. to me their music has always been better than all of them. their songs stay relevant and are so relatable to so many people. I wish then well. an AZ. Fan.
Bruce's lyrics and Levon's voice. Doesn't get better!
Laughable.
JJCALE
Apparently, I'm grateful my ears haven't been tainted by the boss.
Big Bruce fan and just discovered this cover, awesome! Levon and the Band make it their own.
This sucks !!!
the begining makes me think about a little diddy bout jack and diane
what Band is this?
oh my god this is an awful compressed recording of this song. Listen to the other recording of this on youtube. night and day.
Sitting on the porch listing to one of the most talented bands of all time
When I go to a higher place, I want this song playing.
This is such a good version. I love Garth's accordion, and Levon's singing always gets to the heart of the lyric. Rick's harmonies are just perfect, too. Great song.
Just love it like the rest of their legacy
I had no idea they did this
Fucking really good version love it!!!
This song sounds like it could have been written by Robbie Robertson. Perhaps Springsteen was influenced by the Band when he was in high school, sounds like it to me.
My son and his wife danced to this song at their wedding. Priceless
Will always remind me of my dad. Amazing song.
Same here
I blew up a chicken to!🌋🍗🌡🔥
I love you, Carrie.
Could possibly be my favorite cover just the way Levon does what he does!
Interesting.
I saw Dylan and The Band at Radio City Music Hall . The Band opened and then they did Dylons show.
Amazing
Little Feat back in the day as well
For those who remember Chicken Legs , I think they were called
Lol
Age , just a number
Hey Ridley, got any Beeman’s?
the fucking band..... man
Man, this is an amazing cover. If they have great songs to work with, they can do anything.
Unfortunately almost all of the band is dead
"So...we decided to call ourselves...THE BAND". - Richard Manuel
