Baez, Joan - Go 'Way From My Window Lyrics

Go away from my window
Go away from my door
Go away way from my bedside
And bother me no more
And bother me no more

I'll go tell all of my brothers
I'll go tell my shipmates too
The reason that my heart is broke
Is on account of you
Is on account of you

I'll give you back your letter
I'll give you back you ring
And I won't forget my own true love
As long as song birds sing
As long as song birds sing

Go away from my window
Go away from my door
Go away way from my bedside
And bother me no more
And bother me no more

I'll tell all of my brothers
I'll tell my shipmates too
The reason that my heart is broke
Is on account of you
Is on account of you

I don't think anyone has ever done a more sensitive version of this beautiful song - and it's a tribute to such a beautiful voice.

...the window is/was a traditional place for proper courting...many marriages began that way...off course in those times the computer&allsoftware weren't even conceived yet...! Nowadays the "window" has a different meaning...!...

I do, I should upload some of them...wonderful songs. I have Joan singing Mary Hamilton, one of my favorites but can't find the dang thing.

  9. h.... ....

John Jacob Niles wrote down folk songs from the Appalachian region of Kentucky, but also wrote some songs himself, including this one and "I wonder as I wander (out under the sky)", another beautiful song.

@ceb2633 aha - didn't know that, because in a youtube clip he said that the he wrote that song in 1908 - and Wikipedia says indeed that he did both transcribing songs from oral sources and wrting new ones - and that he composed that one

    @wildhias
I have John Jacob Niles huge book; collections of traditional American folk and where it came from. He mainly compiled a huge collection, I doubt he wrote any. He sang some, in a quavery voice. We can thank him for his lifelong studies.

  16. w.... ....

when John Jacob Niles wrote it - than it is not a traditional - or am i wrong?

  17. w.... ....

@ceb2633 I know it since my early childhood back in the sixties sung by Esther Ofarim. She sung it with a coldness in her voice which made me shiver, very great.

  18. d.... ....

Tu as tout dessus.
