Baez, Joan - Cry Me A River Lyrics

Now you say you're lonely
You cried the long night through
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you

Now you say you're sorry
For being so untrue
Well, you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried, cried, cried a river over you

You drove me, nearly drove me, out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember, all that you said
You told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and

Now you say, you say you love me
Well, just to prove that you do
Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river
'Cause I cried a river over you

You drove me, nearly drove me, out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, remember, all that you said
Told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me and

Now, now you say you love me
Well, just to prove you do
Come on and cry, cry, cry me a river, cry me a river
'Cause I cried a river over you

If my pillow talk, imagine what it would have said
Could it be a river of tears I cried in bed?
So you can cry me a river
Daddy, go ahead and cry that river
'Cause I cried, how I cried a river over you
How I cried a river over you

  4. P.... L....

Ella is the best this comes in at a close 2nd.

  5. A.... ....

Baez is something of an enigma to me. I never understood why such a sensational voice was forever singing material that didn't fully display all its charms. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe those lovely old folk songs from the early days were perfect for it. One of the purest, most perfect voices I have ever heard. This wonderful song doesn't seem to bring out the best in it but it is great to hear her sing something out of her usual wheelhouse for a change.

  6. L.... B....

The most polite "go fuck yourself" I've ever heard!

  7. m.... ....

In fact Julie didn't have a voice to talk of. It is said that you couldn't hear her even a few feet away. Unlike, Joan who had a voice that could knock your hat off.

  8. P.... P....

    Baez is. great singer...Beray

  9. M.... P....

Baez is doing a very nice job on this jazz ballad though she isn't a jazz singer, but please don't compare Joan Baez to this uncomparable jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, it has nothing to do with what Baez can do on this song.

  29. M.... ....

I've heard that, and not taking anything away from it, but Julie didn't have the voice that Joan had when she recorded this. To each his own..

  30. j.... ....

    try Julie Lundon

  31. M.... ....

  38. V.... ....

@Scout4Me1 - I hadn't heard Joan Baez sing "Cry Me A River" it's nice. There are many versions of this song, my favourite is by Dinah Washington, it's wonderful!

  39. L.... D....

I think they all are good....

  40. R.... P....

    fine song!
    Aloha from Hawaii!

  41. p.... ....

    @DecoLage100 yes! definitely Joan Baez.

  42. f.... ....

I think this version is just exquisite.

  43. h.... ....

    @OhTerr
My apologies. You're quite correct. As you probably know it's on "Diamonds and Rust in the Bullring (1989)"

  44. T.... ....

Julie London and Ella Fitzgerald remain the best in this song. This is a honest interpretation.

  45. h.... ....

Love Julie London but this is wonderfully sung by Joan. If you like this try Joan's recording of Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat" It's on the Baptism album. Fabulous!

  46. G.... D....

i do enjoy :) i was just curious, and i was wondering because i'm using it in a school project

  47. G.... D....

was this song in v for vendetta? or was it another version?
