Bad Religion - To Another Abyss Lyrics
Not long ago, and yet the image is so vague
I hesitate to label it a memory
There was a show of local color and I felt astray
Cause I had nothing to offer but insufficiency
When you learn to scratch that itch
Of blatant fallibility
Sooner to some, but eventually
All gets pointed in the same direction
While the human masses and their vague conceptions
Obliterate each other with impunity
And you wonder, “what’s in this for me?”
To another abyss
To no avail
To another abyss
To no avail
So long ago I set sail
And it chills me to the bone
That I’m so far away from home
To another abyss
So what should I do now? What should I celebrate?
Given finite means and a penchant to depreciate
How can I still avow and depend upon a state
That cares nothing for my happiness, welfare, or fate?
And I know I can’t explain
The commotion in my brain
Like a terrifying reality
Deconstructed but inadequately
All gets pointed in the same direction
While the human masses and their vain conceptions
Obliterate each other with impunity
And release the weight of history
[Chorus]
So long ago, so long ago…oh, I set sail
And I’m struggling on the way
And I’m waiting for the day (to another abyss)
And I’m looking for the way back home (to another abyss)
So far away (to another abyss)
So far away (to another abyss)
(to another abyss) So far away
(to another abyss)

Fuck the military. All we do is bomb hospitals and steal oil, and don’t even get me started about the how terribly our troops are treated

i have an strange feeling when i heard the last part of the song...
kuroviejo was it a sad feeling?
its more deeper than that
same... gives me goose bumps. i cant describe the feeling.
This, along with Atheist Peace and Social Suicide (which, coincidentally, are on the same album), is easily the worst Bad Religion song.
Funny, though, after putting this song down for a bit, I do enjoy it a lot more now
Atheist Peace and Social Suicide still suck ass and Sinister Rouge is a little lackluster
I really like this track, the flow is nice and Greg gets to properly sing. It's a bit slow, and it's no Dream of Unity, but I still enjoy it. I agree on AP and SS though. As a matter of fact, I've been going over the (in my personal perspective) "new" BR albums.. Which is everything after No Substance. Again, for me personally. I know this is different for a lot of people, and for many it's at the move to Atlantic - not so for me. Anyways, these are the tracks I still really enjoy even though I'm not into any of those albums:
True North
New Dark Ages
Before You Die
To Another Abyss
Supersonic
Bored and Extremely Dangerous
Whisper in Time
Maybe could throw in one or two more tracks from New Maps, probably Germs and Grains. Whisper in Time I mostly like because it sounds like Greg's solo stuff but with full band. I feel like I gave every album except maybe True North a decent chance, and those are all that really hit home with me. There's a bunch of decent but not great tracks, but then I'd rather listen to pre-2000s stuff :)
Wyatt To each their own.
I love this song but to each their own.. The only song i dont care for is "I love my computer"
I wanted to listen crazy thing called love by queen but the lyrics for this song showed up instead of the lyrics for the actual song. welp. This song is pretty kewl
a mi tambien me recordo a Struck a nerve...pero bueno, es Bad Religion!!
I can't stop to listen this song.
Do they ever play this live? All I can find is a bunch of utterly inadequate covers by other people. Would love to hear BR do this one live!
+halleck3 Saw them in 2014 in Port Canaveral. They KILLED it. Summer Nationals with The Offspring headlining. The Offspring is a long time favorite of mine, but BR was sooooo much better. They should really have been the Headliner, but you know, The Offspring is more popular mainstream-wise. They played this song too. :D
+MetaDecker Really? I think they never played this song live. I didn't find anywhere.
+Paulo Pilha Yep. Really. It's a good song, why wouldn't they play it?
According to setlist.fm, they didn't play it.
Struck A Nerve!
Mother fucker I love this song so much!!! Greg has an amazing voice.
+Adam Weisshaupt Why thank you
Greg Love ya Greg! haha
not on this album
fuck yoooooooouuuuuu
drums are awesome on this song!!
You know a bad doesn't give a shit what people think when there albums are named "I heard they suck live"... They do talk alot when they perform, but that's part of the show.
Anyways, they have a good message... they may not seem as intellectual as bad religion, but there definitely good punk.. a couple million fans across the world would agree.. I think that counts for something
your kidding right? NOFX is badass
@Leaman001 Why post anything? You're commenting on a video that is faithfully viewed by Bad Religion fans...obviously just trying to start shit for no reason. So, here's how this works: I'm gonna cut you down for posting that comment and if you reply, I straight-up don't give a fuck. I will ignore you because you obviously have nothing of relevance to say. If you don't reply: good. You might have learned something.
@badreligion i agree 100% rolling stones magazine voted this #14 on BR's best albums. this in my opinion is BR's best album EVER. Which album is similar to this one by Bad Religion in your opinion?
@jadedforlyfe i feel you man, when my fiancée left me for some douchebag who ended up cheating on her... well the only solid truth i could find was the awesomeness of bad religion
i paused my porn for this
@badreligion shit seriously brings me to tears when they talk about only doing one more album etc. i can't stand it. My absolute favorite band that got me into punk when i was 8. best melody, best songwriting, best singing, best everything i dread the shit out of the day they break up and will be beyond bummed and down.
This song is amazing, one of the absolute best of the album.
This is arguably Bad Religion's best album, god every song just fits together and touches you, entertains you, informs you, fights for you and I REALLY hope Bad Religion gives us another album like this before they go their own ways.
I really never used to think of this song as my favorite "Empire Strikes First" song. But I've been relistening to the album and this song now stands out so strongly. Must be the age as I was only 14 when this album came out, now I'm 21 and shit's changing. Thank god, lol, for Bad Religion.
Go Greg, don't stop repping Wisconsin!!
Bad Religion is awesome! And Greg Graffin is even more fucking. Beyond to be a atheist that worries about the world, he's an awesome singer! And I think "The Empire Strikes First" is undoubtedly the best album of this century.
i find this easy to headbang to
amazing song
amazing song!!!!!
i love when the songs like this and struck a nerve; so heartfelt and touching
