B-52's, The - Summer Of Love Lyrics

This song came out back in late August or early September 1986 and I can recall on September 3rd of that year which was on a Thursday and it was the the first day of school at Arcadia High School in California for fall 1986/spring 1987 school year and it was my senior year. This was one of the songs that was playing through my mind on that day.

Nice snappy fun summer song (which is actually when I first heard it--the summer of '86)---I don't understand why this release by the B-52s wasn't pushed much when it came out--it didn't even make the pop charts, and it's never played on the radio today.

the transition to the first chorus at 1:35 is epic. I've been hearing this song since I was a little kid - it was used in "Earth Girls Are Easy" movie.

If you're curious... The magic in that transition is really musically clever
They go form a lovely B flat Major scale to a B Minor Pentatonic without changing the root note (frankly it's brilliant)

"BOTS" is very rarely played live at any B's concerts. SOL is, but that is about it.

They have been playing more though! I saw them last fall and finally my wish came true, to hear Ipanema live! And the year before I saw them at an outside venue and they opened with "Wig" and I freaked out!

It's a grossly overlooked B's album. Ricky wrote most of it when he knew he was Dying, (heck, he didn't even get to finish it). & See what WE got! "Everything is Very Special! Everyone transcends here! I'm Thinking of You. I'm in Love with the Summer Of Love". RIP Ricky, we miss you.

Bouncing Off the Satellites was, and is, a great album. This band, in my opinion, is probably the best loved, and most underrecognized, bands from the 80s and 90s. I honestly think most people who hear them don't realize that, on most tracks, there are two women singing in unison... and with Fred as counterpoint, well... it's the 52s. Simply brilliant. Thanks, guys.

I love every song where the girls are the main vocalists. They always had such beautiful and different harmonies.

In a way this WAS the last B 52 Album. But not such a very sad time. This was the year I came out and used to LOVE hearing this all the Summer of '86!!!! It was so fab. I don't know why it didn't sound like the B52s to me. Just a fab song they played all summer long at an incredible club . . .

It's a great dance song. Also a rainbow member. I had much fun in the 80s.
